Thats right once again Lupin Saiko is back and is ready to pump more negativity into your life. Take notes people this is going to be a good one.

I hate it when things get popular. Not because Im some anti-social kid who is trying so hard no to do the "in thing" and is really has just put him/herself into another equally as trendy circle. No thats not the reason at all. I dont like it when things get popular because thats when they start to go down hill. I dont know why this is, maybe people get too greedy again (NOFX reference there) and notice and like their increased popularity and think with just a tweak here and a turn there they can bring in even more people. Maybe thats it. And maybe they lose sight of whats really important, their core fans, and do so many tweaks and turns that they have lost what originally made them so popular and now are nothing more then a shell of their former selves.

Dont get me wrong. I think we can all agree that when something you like first gets popular its really cool. Case in point: G4TechTV. I noticed after they started branding themselves as such more and more people seemed to be aware of it and the core programs. You know like TSS X-Play and the lot. And that was great. But then all of a sudden they pull the rug out from under our feet and the fall was too much to recover from. It had been real fun but I pretty much had to say goodbye (another NOFX reference :D) once they started showing crap like Cops and Cheaters.

I make that example because Im sure most users here can connect with it, but I think most of us know of other instances of this happening. For me its almost video games in general a few local radio stations and punk music. Good video games are hard to find local radio stations either play the same thing over and over again or just do talk radio all the time and finally good punk music has been hard to find since the genre has been flooded. And those are really just some recent examples. And it seems to me the internet is even heading that way, again. (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2762)

Is there a point to this long rant? No not at all. Just the fact its 6:32am in the morning and Im still up, and I think these ramblings are intelligent. So please, post any experiences you feel you have had that are similar or post to simply tell me I am full of shit and to go to bed.

Everything you described in that sad, emo diatribe is run by The Man. The Man doesn't care about quality, he just wants to squeeze every red cent out of an entity so that he can trade in his S500 for the 600 model, and move on, leaving a burnt out husk left where a good product once stood. The sad fact of the matter is, more people watch 6 year old reruns of The Man Show than ever watched TSS.

Fortunately, when entertainment stratifies as it has, it leaves a gap that can be filled by people who innovate a medium. Podcasts, vidcasts and such, made by houses like the Rev3 one you're in right now, are thankfully stepping up and doing just that.

So much of being a Geek is choosing the unpopular path.

Do you remember "Magic: The Gathering" the collectible card game from Wizards and the Coast?

I played that game when it was first released. It was quirky and new and a bought a shit-load of first edition cards to play it.

Later on it got really popular and that wasn't for me. I sold my cards for a few thousand bucks and bought an engagement ring with the proceeds.

That story would have been so much better if you had spent the money on Blackjack, coke, and hookers.

Back to the subject, what I hate about the things I like getting popular is having to interact with people who are just into what I'm into cause it's the "cool thing." Their complete lack of real caring about whatever it is almost feels like a slap in the face to me for truly being into something when everyone else can so easily fake it.

It's also SUPER annoying when once it becomes popular, those who aren't into it then starting saying you're a poser or whatever.

I agree with that. Like world of warcraft. It use to be if someone said they where into WoW you would be like "Oh what class what spec guild level raid expericne?" and you would have a great conversation with either someone who was just starting out and wanted to learn or an experinced player. Now you have to ask "You play WoW? Oh you do? Pre SP or Post SP?"

I'm pretty much on the same boat with you guys on this, but you have to understand hasn't everything in this world become that. I'm pretty sure we has humans like to be part of things and to show people things, and with both those thats how something gets popular, sucks, alot with games, but nothing much to do about it.
