I speak English. It's foreign to those who don't understand it.
Also I used to be fluent in Spanish. And l33t. Am. in l33t.
Oh, and as a testament to my geekiness, I was fluent in Quenya for a while, Tolkien's most-developed Elven language.

You're Russian? So's my boyfriend! Kinda. Born in the U.S.S.R. in 1981 in an area that later became the Ukraine, but which identified itself as Russian due not only to the proximity to the border, but because of language and customs. After the fall of the U.S.S.R. his name was changed from Nickolay to Mikola, the Ukrainian version of his Russian name. He emigrated to Canada (Vancouver, BC) at 16, then to the US last summer.
Can you speak any Russian? I know you mention Farsi and French, but it can't hurt (much) to ask.

i took 4 semesters of spanish at college because my degree required it and i can't remember most of it. i would probably be comfortable ordering at a mexican restaurant, but that's about it.
i am actually working on writing a research paper that i would like to have published on the difficulties of acquiring a 2nd language in an academic setting. the paper will urge schools to replace foreign language requirements with english grammar and linguistics requirements. foreign language should be optional, not mandated.

Fluent in Java, now only conversational in C, but it wouldn't take much for me to get fluent again.
As for spoken languages ... tourist level French (important for my travel to French Canadia, ironically not so important for actual travel in France), tourist level Spanish, tourist level Italian, tourist level Japanese. Tourist level? Not exactly conversational, but enough to say thankyou, order food, find a bathroom, and get directions. I refresh with a phrase book before travelling.
I have some highschool German as well - its a little better than my tourist level language skills. If you want to know what colour the pencil is, I am your man.
Oh yeah - I also translate English. I had a boss that spoke "Scottish (Glaswegian)" English, that needed me to translate into "SoCal Latino" English. I understood what he said, I understood what the guys in the steel plant said, but neither of them could understand each other. Kinda funny that Australian English was being used to normalise what was being said.

Chinese (mandarin) mostly. I’ve learned some Korean but only foods and how to say “Do you want to die?”
