I was searching the internets and I came across this lovely gem from the Polyphonic Spree. It's a cover of "Lithium"...
very interesting to say the least..What are some weird covers you've heard?

Not neccesarily weird (depending on your tastes) but some of my personal favs are: Tom Jones/Cardigans "Burning down the House" (Talking Heads), Johnny Cash doing "Hurt" (NIN), William Shatner "Common People" (Pulp), and finally to bring it back home Talking Heads "Take me to the River" (Al Green).

I think covers are naturally weird but cool. Some of my favorites: Faith No More - "Easy"(Lionel Richie) and "I Started A Joke"(Bee Gees), Rasputina's whole covers' EP - Lost & Found, Damone - "Wasted Years"(Iron Maiden). I also like it when bands do covers at their live shows.

Oh I HAVE to mention if you like just plain cover bands (a la Me First and Gimme Gimmes) then you have to check out Richard Cheese. Lounge versions of pop hits. It just speaks deep in to my soul. You may have heard one if you saw the Dawn of the Dead remake.

Amanda Shaw's cover of "Should I Stay or Should I Go" is pretty weird. Cajun versions of Clash songs are awesome.
Also, the album "Backed in Black" which features female singer/songwriters performing AC/DC songs:

Most bizarre cover? Scott Bakula doing a cover of Lennon's "Imagine" on an episode of "Quantum Leap".
That, and though I love him to death, Rick Springfield's version of "Human" (Human League) is terrible.

Hayseed Dixie is a bluegrass band that covers AC/DC, Kiss, Motorhead, and more. And its really good, too.

Although I love it, it is really weird. Scissor Sisters doing a cover of Comfortably Numb. It turned the song into a slow disco awesome song. Check it out. And anything by Richard Cheese is great.

Ex- Sexpistols front man Johnny Rotten's second band was Public Image Ltd or P.I.L., truly the first of the post punk bands. Their first single was "This is not a Love Song"... Thievery Corporation has now done a cover of it on their latest CD and it's so different as to be almost unrecognizable.

I'm not sure these qualify as weird, depends on your personal definition of weird but Nouvelle Vague (a great cover group) has a couple of albums each containing a range of different artists. This group definately brings new life to some of the older songs they cover. My favorites are their covers of Human Fly - The Craps, Too Drunk to Fu¢k - Dead Kennedys, Friday Night Saturday Morning - The Specials, Eisbär - Stephan Eicher.

I like Children of Bodom doing Oops I did it again, but what I really hate are all these lame emo/pop/buble gum wannabe punk bands doing covers of pop songs.

Bodom's cover of Somebody Put Something in My Drink was fun.

White dudes doing covers of hip hop songs are tits
"Johnathan Coulton - Baby got Back" & "Gin & Juice - The Gourds"
Other than that, it may not be on the top, but I still rock out to Guns N' Roses cover album "The Spaghetti Incident?"

hmmm... being tits... is that a good thing, or a bad thing... personally I *like* tits, but it sounds like it's bad. What a dichotomy...

So I saw Arcade Fire along with David Byrne (lead singer of the Talking Heads). David Byrne had a marching band (with strippers for a color guard/dancers) play Burning Down the House, and some of his solo stuff. Psychokiller and Take me to the River were also played. For the last song, though...I died (and so did my gay friendd of course, b/c of what he covered), when the marching band played the song that David Byrne then played which was an exact, but live, version of Biancé's Crazy In Love. It was ****ing sick and the most random and unexpected closing song I ever would've expected. I love that man.

I dont even really remember the band names or songs but check out that Punk goes pop cd he just posted, its filled with it. The sad thing is all those bands original music is pop to begin with.
And every Bobom cover is awesome.
Not neccesarily weird (depending on your tastes) but some of my personal favs are: Tom Jones/Cardigans "Burning down the House" (Talking Heads), Johnny Cash doing "Hurt" (NIN), William Shatner "Common People" (Pulp), and finally to bring it back home Talking Heads "Take me to the River" (Al Green).Ahh I LOVE that Burning Down the House cover. So awesome. FNM's "Easy" was another good example. Richard Cheese, as mentioned, rules.
I've got a CD of industrial bands covering songs. It's called Nod's Tacklebox of Fun. Mindless Faith - When Doves Cry. PurrMachine - MmmBop. Hate Dept. - You Spin Me Round. Plus a bunch more.
edit: Oh yeah, and Bif Naked covering "Nothing Else Matters".
