So today Joss Whedon announced he has been removed from the Wonder Woman movie, essentially because he had a take on the movie that no one else liked. What do you all think about this? I am actually kind of happy because maybe he can focus on comics a little bit and get Runaways and Buffy out on time consistently.
Of course I was looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie specifically because he was running it. So I'm bummed about that. And I am also bummed because if the studio hated his take, that probably means it would have been great. I guess I am torn.

Let's take guesses at his 'take':
Wonder Woman fights vampires while she travels through space with set that look surprisingly like an early Eastwood movie
I love Whedon, I'm just ****ing with him

Just when I thought they were gonna give some love to my girl and then BAM! What does a girl have to do to get some Wonder Woman love?
The sky must really be falling.. Geoff Johns gone from Teen Titans and now this.. :(

On Whedon, doesn't it seem that this may be too 'in his wheelhouse' as they say. His ideas probably seemed stale because of similarities that likely existed with his other work.
This is total speculation of course. I have talked to Joss since like last week

I'm with Jimski. This entire time there has been a nagging, quiet, high pitched voice in the back of my head saying "This is never going to happen... this is never going to happen...".
So, not shocked.
And as much as I love Whedon, I'm not sure if I'm totally upset about it.
Now the question is - will this film ever get made? I'm thinking not.

Since my last post was basically classless, I will add this: I was sort of looking forward to Whedon's Wonder Woman, since I have long been obsessed with all things Whedon but have always been completely disinterested in Wonder Woman in every way. I was waiting for him to make her come alive for me.
With that in mind, and since the WW movie is now that much further off, this would be an excellent time for some to recommend the WW story to me and make me a convert.

For my money, I was looking forward to Joss writing this (And directing, I think he has a good eye for shots). I just remember when Batman came out, the big thing was how there was going to be a DC film a year, next was Superman, then Wonder Woman.
Then when Superman came out, there was still nothing but rumor about who would play Wonder Woman, let alone filming beginning.
I just imagine this must have been a very hard character to write. I mean there's the amazon aspect, or the modern day "Superman" esq aspect. Do you do it all? Just bits? If you don't do both will you get castrated by fans?
I have to imagine that Batman and Superman (Maybe Plastic Man) are the best DC characters to write for, cause it's always been the same people behind the mask with (Basically) the same back story with minor changes. Now with someone like the Flash, or Green Lantern you have achaters who have had diffrent people take on the persona, so diffrent back stories, and everyone has their favorites. I am to bummed to see Joss go, and I hope this movie does get made.

If this movie does get made now, you can't expect anything close to good at this point. I mean, if he was trying to do something close to the character, and they didn't like it, we're looking at a movie more like Elektra and Catwoman. That's just my guess.
Too bad though. However, I can't imagine that Whedon's movie, which would have been very good, would have made much money. Just a guess.

I just hope that DC learns that these characters are classics for a reason. There's no point in drastically changing the character. Sure, little changes here and there for a movie format are understandable, but everyone knows these characters because of how they are, not how some board of directors re-imagines them.
Take the Spider-man movies for example. I would venture to say that the second film is my favorite superhero adaptation ever, with Batman Begins coming in a close second. The reason I love that movie is how true to character it is. They updated things slightly, but everything we loved about the comics was there.
I always use Doc Connors as an example. He's Peter's teacher, with one arm. As he should be. They could have put any random character as his teacher. They could have used the name, but changed the character. They did neither. They stuck with cannon even though they didn't need to.
We don't need a Catwoman in torn leather or Batman with nipples on his suit. We want what we fell in love with in the first place.

I bet Joss Whedon's conflicting vision for WW was that it not suck. You can't trust these movie guys. Just how many movies about our heroes haven't sucked? They don't respect comics or comic fans.
You're gonna go see this WW movie, you know you are. Since your money in the bank to them, they don't see any particular value in spending time to develop a movie that will appeal to the subtle and uncompromising tastes of comic fans.
Do you wanna see your favorites portrayed properly on film? Punish the movie producers by staying away.
I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other on this. I'm not the biggest DC fan and as such don't have much experience with Wonder Woman. I think that Whedon's involvement would've been the only way I'd go see this but at the same time this frees him up to do other things that I might have a more natural predisposition towards.

Whedon knows how to right strong storylines with an overriding arc that don't immediately contradict themselves.
He can right for both male and female characters and not make them stereotypical.
Not having him attached to this project is a mistake. He has the comic cred, he has the screen cred, he has the fan cred ... and still he gets dumped.
Just like FF:RotSS, and GostRider they have my money already. I'll probably go see each of them, and probably also buy the DVDs, but it would be a nice bonus to start a movie franchise if there was actually a plot.
it would be a nice bonus to start a movie franchise if there was actually a plot.
That sadly is forgotten much of the time. Many movies come out lacking one or at least a credible one. Hollywood has begun making movies for the monster truck crowd - all you have to do is scream Sunday, Sunday, Sunday and smash some shit and you're all set.

From Newsarama. If true, it has "s***storm" written all over it:
Fans who’ve been watching the rise and fall and rise and fall of the possible, potential, probable, not likely, maybe happening, probably not, but then again maybe Wonder Woman movie at Warner Bros. may have new reason to despair.
According to LA Weekly’s Nikki Finke, Warners isn’t interested in making films with female leads. Her source? Warner Bros president of production Jeff Robinov who Finke quotes (through three sources) as saying: "We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." Finke said that Robinov's sentiment/statement was confirmed by three producers.
Finke takes the broader (no pun intended) view of the alleged new “direction” for Warners, even going so far as to getting a response from Gloria Allred, comic fans will clearly see the writing on the wall for the beleaguered Wonder Woman movie that the studio had been trying to get off the ground for years now, most notably, with Joss Whedon at the helm (he signed on in March of 2005), until he left the project in February of this year. At last report, Producer Joel Silver was “struggling” with the Wonder Woman movie, and the studio had purchased another script for a possible Wonder Woman movie around the time Whedon left.
Most recently, of course, Jessica Biel’s name was bantered about as a possible Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League of America film, which was/is, reportedly, to be the launching pad for several solo hero film franchises, including Wonder Woman.
As Finke points out, Waren Bros. films with female leads have underperformed in the market of late, but that, Finke said, is something that has many factors, and is not solely due to the female leads.

I'm inclined to agree that it's most likely for the comic, as opposed to some heretofore completely unheard of film. But isn't the next DC Animated Film supposed to be a Wonder Woman story? Though this admittedly looks nothing like the style of animation we've come to expect from that.

Yes. No Wonder Woman movie actually exists so it's either fan made or marketing for the comic.
Unless, as Jon said, it's for the animated movie and there's a picture of Kerri Russell back there which would be kind of silly since it's not a secret that she's the voice.

Megan Fox Fans Fooled by 'Wonder Woman' Hoax (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/wonderwomanhoax_blog.html)
by Matt McDaniel | November 6, 2008
Ever since her breakout role in "Transformers," 22-year-old brunette beauty Megan Fox has gained an enormous fanbase online. So it was big news this week when Wonder-Who.com revealed that she would be portraying DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman in an upcoming big screen adaptation. There's only one problem: it's a fake.
In the "Holy Trinity" of DC Comics superheroes, one iconic character has been conspicuously missing from movie screens. Superman had his heyday in the 70s, Batman in the 90s, and both have been revived in the past three years. But Wonder Woman, the Amazonian princess with the magic lasso and invisible plane, has not had a live-action portrayal since the last episode of the TV series aired in 1979. There have been attempts in recent years to put together a film version at Warner Bros. Pictures shepherded by Joel Silver, veteran producer of the "Lethal Weapon" and "Matrix" franchises. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon was attached to write and direct, but he left the project for "creative differences" last year.
Then out of nowhere the Wonder-Who.com site appeared with an image of the Wonder Woman logo over an American flag with the words "The Truth Will Be Revealed!" below. As the days progressed, bits of the background were torn away to reveal the figure underneath. Finally, the image of Fox in full costume was unveiled, with DC Comics, Silver Pictures, and Warner Bros. logos in the lower right-hand corner.
Many movie websites ran with the news that Fox had indeed been cast in the role. It was believed that Warner Bros. was attempting to leak the information virally like they did for the first photo of the Joker last year for "The Dark Knight." But soon some other intrepid bloggers began investigating the site's origins. JoBlo.com did reach a representative from Warner Bros. who confirmed that the Wonder-Who.com site was "complete B.S."
