I really am enjoying these. The technical content in the books is a lot of fun and I found myself stopping in mid chapter to look something up , like smurf and fraggle attacks, and learning something real. And the real world placements of events that I can google earth was so much fun too. Not to mention the tech i didn't now about like the hypersonic sounds system and the like.
So as I'm currently blowing through freedom at a pace I haven't with a book in a long time, i want more. So is there any recommendations for books like daemon and freedom TM that anyone can recommend. I have pandora star next on my list, but i don't want to crush myself, its really long and I worry for my attention span. These books might be about the right length and technical content i need to stay into the story. Best books since i read hitch hikers guide to the universe back in my early 20's.
Thanks for any input.
Hmm maybe I should make a totally rad book book post, like the movie one i keep in my sig. I'll have to remember that for when i get home. Remember daryll !
Thanks again.

I'm doing the dark tower series. Ending the 3nd book now. There is mentions of di-polar circuits in it.
I struggled through the first book because all it really was was a set up for who the gunslinger is and his mission. I was disappointed when he caught up with the MIB. But book 2 and this one are very good.
Also you might try to pick up "under the dome" by Stephen king. I can not recommend this book enough. I thought it was a short read but it's non stop suspense.

Wow the synopsis on wikipedia sounds pretty good actually. Thanks man, it's going on the wish list.

I am loving Daemon. Really smart cross between thriller and technology.
Dude I LOVED that first Gunslinger book (at least the original version, haven't read the updated version). I was pretty instantly hooked. I've been thinking about revisiting the series. Enough time has passed since the pain of books 6 and 7 that I'd like to go back and see what I think once my expectation has been brought down to earth.

Agh, so the category for daemon is thiller. You know i didn't even think to use that as a search perimeter. Thank you.
Gunslinger looks interesting. But I should stop at 5?
And to be clear, they don't have to be technical I guess. I just want some really good books to read. I don't know what I like, I like a lot of things. I guess I just like a well crafted story. Like snow crash was really cool, the tech and the era keeps you engaged, but that wasn't the real reward, it was the later parts that challenged you to think a bit I guess. Don't remember a lot of snow crash, sorry I cant I've a better analogy.

Word of warning with the DT series. I will preface this by saying I LOVE IT but... it gets a little weird towards the end. Some of the paths King chose to take were a little off. As a whole I love the series but was majorly disappointed with how it closed out. Curious to see what you guys think. Also if you haven't read his books that tie in you should. The Talisman and its sequel Black House are both great reads.

I haven't read either Daemon or Freedom yet, but, based on what you wrote and what I've heard about those novels, I think you might like Charles Stross' novels, especially Halting State. The story of that novel centers on hackers who stage a massive bank robbery inside a MMORPG. Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) also factor in. It's very near future and gets quite technical at times. The novel was nominated for the both the Hugo and Locus Awards in 2008. If you like that novel, you might want to check out Stross' other novels like Accelerando and Glasshouse as well.
And, of course, there are the cyberpunk classics Neuromancer and Snow Crash. Pretty much anything by William Gibson really.

That is a tough call. It's hard to recommend a series when you know it won't fulfill the promise of the earlier books, but I loved books 1,2 and 4 so much (and really liked 3 and 5) that it's hard not to recommend.
I'd say the only two choices are 1) don't start or 2) read it in its entirety. I can't imagine that if you are still engaged after book 5 you'll want to skip the end, even if you expect it to be terrible. Hell, I know it's terrible and I'm about to put myself through all 7 books again. :)
BTW, if Snow Crash is the only Stephenson you've read I'd recommend trying another one, maybe Crytopnomicon. That one follows two timelines, one during the code breaking efforts of the US military during World War 2, the other following savy hacker types in the modern day. Really excellent book.
