USB malfunction

i got a HDD for Back ups. and I'm trying to plug it in but i get "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows dose not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, Click this massage." this also happens with my MP3 player but if i plug it in the front USB it works.????

I'd check out the device manager and look under "universal serial device controllers" to see if there are any errors/yellow flags. If so, you can refresh/scan for changes. If that doesn't work, you can uninstall the USB drivers and then restart the PC so then Windows will reinstall the drivers. If nothing works, then you can always get a $9 PCI USB card and install that to give you more rear USB ports.

no room for a PCI card and i can get every thing to work in the front 'Case" usb's

i think it is a little quick to say that there is no way to fix it and just to buy a pci card. i can get a lot of things to work on the back USB's but things that i put in the front USB's first only work on the front.
