Last night I finished the seventh trade of Green Arrow. It was very good. I want to keep going but I think I need some help.

At the end of trade #7(issue 59), GA appears to be dying and Star City is being destroyed around him. There is a dialogue box that alludes to identity crisis. What do I need to know from IC and 52 to pick back up at 60? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Not much, to be honest. One of the OYL conceits is that you don't know what happened in the intervening year and you have to figure it out/have things revealed to you about the missing time. Unless you just want to know what happened ahead of time.

If you want more good GA stories, I'd suggest The Longbow Hunters TPB. It's from the early 90s era when GA was a "mature readers only" book. Much darker - no trick arrows, just steel tips that often found their way into criminals.

nice thanks Connor. I'll check out that tpb too as I love dark.

The best trick arrow thing - the fire extinguisher arrow down the demon's throat

Winnick is really talented. He ripped my heart out giving Mia HIV but now it's actually empowering.

I, like you, have also recently torn through the GA trades. And like Conor said, you really don't need to know a whole lot to move on. In fact, they do a couple "flashback" issues later on (like 68-69 I think) that cover what happened. SO go for it.

Big +1 for Lowbow Hunters too.

My favorite issue in those trades: the two trainees at the strip club.

Yeah, that was good. It asnwered all of the lingering inferred questions about connor too

and it was cool how they drew the parallel between roy and connor as like the two sides of oliver queen

Good point. One of the main reasons I like GA so much is emotional aspect of the character.

That's really great about him. I like the duality in him. It's almost like he doesn't need a cartoon devil and angel on his shoulders because he already is each of them.

I like gray

Oliver is definitely his own worst enemy. I love him.

I am perpetually drawn to that form of disfunction

Kudos to the writers for making feel very natural as well. Not at all "schitzo."

truly though. You can tell that DC really believes in the property when you look at the talent they've thrown at.

If nothing else, Judd Winick seems born to write Oliver Queen. He gets him.

He really does and Smith and Meltzer weren't so bad either. Not as good as Winnick but still great.

You know what's really stark and obvious when you read it in trade? The departure of Hester and Parks. It's like great, awesome, great, meh
It breaks right in the middle of a trade too. I think it was 6

I like Winick's Green Arrow better than "The Outsiders". Its one of my favorite titles I have. The issue where he gave Mia HIV was one of my favorites. Also the first story arc he wrote is one of my favorites.

Love the avatar Fred.. Have you seen Rocky Balboa? You're almost at 600 posts.. It seems like yesterday you were just announcing 500...

Conor, you so hit it on the nail. I Love Winick's Green Arrow. Way better than "Outsiders". Its one of my favorite titles I have on my pull list. The issue where he gave Mia HIV was one of my favorite issues. Also the first story arc he wrote is one of my favorites.

um, it was yesterday.

I saw Rocky Balboa. It was good. Let me qualify. I have an attraction to train wrecks and I expected this to be a prime example. For the love of christ, Stallone's like 150, but he pulled it off more often than not.

It was quite good. I'm debating waiting for tpb #8(March) or buying the issues. If I buy the issues I'll still buy the trade because I have the first 7.

Yes, I am sick

I'm doing both as well... Definitely sick.

I miss Hester on this book so much.

I like Phil Hester but I have a special love for Scott McDaniel's work.

I don't necessarily think it's bad; it just isn't Hester

I think, consistency wise, the art on GA has been top notch. Every artist on the series has his own style but there has been a similarity.
