OK I get it, you like to drop the f-bomb.

Please?

umm, maybe they should work their way up to 1 per minute before you start complaining. Yea, there have been episodes where they went on an "f-bomb" rant. But in generally they rarely say it. Plus, you are asking two partially drunk guys to watch their language? Have you ever been around someone when they are drunk?

And for the hard hitting side of it, if it's really that big of an issue then don't watch. Way back towards the beginning of Diggnation they censored it, but got more complaints about censoring then they have ever gotten about cursing. It was decided that they would not censor. This has worked great, especially since they use it somewhat sparingly. It's not like some movies where they drop it every other word.

Well, I say they should INCREASE the swearing. So who should they listen to?

Basically, if you don't like it, don't expect them to change the show. Find a different one that suits you.

sorry just pointing it out. Quit using that word after those stupied Dell ads.

Please?I guess it has been a month since someone comes in to make a single post on this subject ... so here goes again ...

Podcasts are not rated like television shows, and are not covered under FCC guidelines, however if you look at the MPAA ratings, Diggnation would fall under the guise of PG. Not PG13, not R, or NC17 - but PG.

Would you have a hard time recommending a PG rated movie to someone?

Taking it to a TV ratings standard, once again, Diggnation would fall under the category of PG, perhaps with the L and D modifiers (L for mild coarse language D for suggestive dialogue (suggestive or explicit subject matter)). This is the same rating as most prime time network television shows (sitcoms, drama, and reality programming). The difference here is that (at least in the US) the ability to use the "F" word you object to is restricted to after certain times of day, or cable (even basic cable).

Casework will reply with a statement that a rating for a sexually derived swear word that appears more than three times will give a movie an R rating.

Fun eh?

Enjoy the podcast ... forget about the swearing. **** as an explitive is moving out of the vulgar and becoming commonplace, regardless of the origins of the word. You hear worse in a playground, and see worse depicted on prime time TV.

If you want to bait me, I'll take it. Especially considering I'm a Broadcasting major and a Film Studies minor, I think I hold some authority over the subject. I've also worked in TV, on radio, and in a movie theatre. Just because my opinion or take on the issue may differ from yours, that doesn't warrant you being a dick about it.

It's really cute that you try to classify Diggnation as PG when clearly it's not. If it was so tame, it wouldn't receive an explicit tag on iTunes(even though that rating is to their discretion and not normal standards). You are right that on TV(or radio) the show would only be restricted to a daypart grid, but would certainly get at least a TV 14 rating. The content of the show generally isn't so extreme that it would always get the worst rating possible, but don't act like it's comparable to MythBusters or some educational show on The Discovery Channel.

More than one such expletive must lead the Rating Board to issue a film an R rating, as must even one of these words used in a sexual context.

Source: http://www.ign.com/mpaa.html

The last time this was brought up, you mentioned that they really probably don't cuss as much as people act like, and I randomly sampled an episode(75, I believe), and the "F" count was 41 times. That's certainly more than 2 or 3 times.

With all that said, PG-13 and below aren't restrictions on admittance - even if a film is rated PG-13, anyone can go see the movie, including a 9 year old by himself. R only requires parental approval, and NC-17/X are the only real restrictions placed on viewing.

For those interested, the Wiki entry pertaining to the use of expletives contains the following:

Although the MPAA does not publish an official list of all the exact words, actions, and exposed body parts used to determine a movie's rating as this would be considered tantamount to self-censorship, some guidelines can be derived based on the MPAA's actual rating decisions:

If a film uses "one of the harsher sexually derived words" (such as ****) 1-3 times, it is routine today for the film to receive a PG-13 rating, provided that the word is used as an expletive and not with a sexual meaning (this was mentioned in Be Cool, when Chili Palmer complains about the movie industry. "****" is said only in that scene, giving the movie a PG-13). An example of a film that might suggest this criteria is Waiting for Guffman, which contains mostly PG-13 (some could even argue PG) content, yet is rated R because a man auditioning for a role uses "****" (the only time it is spoken in the movie), in a sexual sense. Exceptions may be allowed, "by a special vote of the ratings board" where the board feels such an exception would better reflect the sensibilities of American parents. A couple of exceptions were noted: rare films such as Guilty by Suspicion were allowed as many as 9 uses of the word; probably due to the precedent set in the 1970s by politically important films such as All the President's Men. It is a common misconception that if a movie uses "****", in a nonsexual context, more than once, it will automatically receive an R rating. In reality, PG-13 movies are routinely allowed two or three uses.

Now, with all that said, I'll add my own opinion:

If the cursing in Diggnation bothers you that much, you should be watching. They don't have dirty mouths by any means, but at the same time, the F word is hardly the worst thing they say or reference. I rarely cuss, but that doesn't stop me from watching the show for entertainment and informational values. Just like I wouldn't normally like to see someone killed, but I can watch action movies for entertainment only.

Someone who can't draw the line between what they take in and what they put out are the same people that would be on here complaining about video games being too violent or TV shows being too sexual. If you can't control your intake and reaction to what you are viewing - you shouldn't be watching. Period. Don't ask someone to change the content of their show simply because you are not comfortable watching it.

I always think its funny when some new guy to the show brings something up that was brought up and dealt with oh about a year ago. and i know i dont have to many posts but i have been watching since the beginning, and most of the orignals know me. i dunno im just getting a little bothered at the one post people coming on here making a complaint and then leaving never to be heard from again. and if its just me that thinks that ill shut up now.

LOL, I love how the filter removed "fuck" from the URL!

Who here has seen the South Park movie? It's so damned true that people seem more up-in-arms over a few words than they are about graphic violence. The words don't kill people the way being violent does. I'm not quite sure how saying "fuck" and "shit" are worse than seeing someone be chopped to pieces.

But hey, if you don't like it, no one's making you watch.

Hmm... swearing. I do it a lot. In fact I even throw out tons of racial slurs. Im not racist but damn are they funny. Cracker Spick Kike Nigga Wetback No Ass Chink they are all so great because imo they symbolize the the stereotype of each race. To me its almost worse to say "Black men have big dicks and like to steal from people" then "Niggas got them big cocks and they will rob ya blind first chance they get" because you is a generalization and can be viewed as racist where any sane person will view the second one as a joke about a common misconception about a race of people.

Ahh but I digress to the original issue, f-u-c-k. The word itself like any word should not offend you. Its just a word, a four letter word at that. Its only meaning is of what you put into it. Personally to me its mainly an adjective a more superlative form of the more most or better best serious. For example something could be "the most amazing thing" but beyond that it is "****ing Amazing".

But on the opposite of that, using any phrase of word repetitively can create an annoyance regardless of the word. And it also shows sign of a limited vocabulary and perhaps even a lack of proper communication skills. And I think many fans know this not to be true of you Kevin and Alex based on your past shows. Or maybe you where just reading straight from a teleprompter at those times? For some reason I always doubted that.

Also people please pull your heads out of your asses. In movies this show would get an R rating due to the cursing and in TV it would receive a TV-MA rating for the same reason. And of course it would never be allowed to air in its uncensored form in regards to FCC Standards. Though I could be wrong about that because I know of a case where Bono at the 2003 Golden Globes Awards said **** but the FCC did not fine NBC because:

it was not used to refer to sexual or excretory functions; in other words, because it was used as an adjective, not as a noun or verb.

But NBC just barely squeaked by without a fine mainly because it was a live event. Also, if anyone has a list of the FCC Decency Standards they enforce I would appreciate it if I could get a link to that.

you seem not to care that your language, which you could easily control, is hurtful and offensive to alot of people. more than that it continues this nasty cycle of hate. while you and your racist friends may find them "so great" many of us do not. my guess is you have never been on the other side of your hatespeak.

and now they might be giants:

This is where the party ends
I can't stand here listening to you
And your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
And your racist friend

It was the loveliest party that I've ever attended
If anything was broken I'm sure it could be mended
My head can't tolerate this bobbing and pretending
Listen to some bullet-head and the madness that he's saying

This is where the party ends
I'll just sit here wondering how you
Can stand by your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
You and your racist friend

This is where the party ends
I can't stand here listening to you
And your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
And your racist friend

Out from the kitchen to the bedroom to the hallway
Your friend apologizes, he could see it my way
He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking
Can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding
