I just ordered a new monitor and 3d vision to play 3d games and watch 3d content...

I would love to see an option to watch diggnation and trs in 3d!!!!

Is there anything you guys can do to help me?

Please make a 3d option for us 3d lovers out there.

Making 3D (2x 2D) video is... very difficult and... expensive. You need two cameras to start with. Then you need a format that supports 3D plus a video editor that supports 3D composition. Amazingly h264 can contain 3D video, now some one just needs to buy them another camera. Then mike just needs to find even more time to edit the video.

Then, you need to figure out how to play it back.

3D (2x 2D) is a gimmick, I hope it dies fast.

Good, just as long as it IS possible that I might see it in the future..

I've seen 3d camera's hit the market this last year, So I would assume that there was a way to make 3d content.. Nvidia's website has a link to a website to view 3d content. I can't wait to get my monitor and glasses in later this week to check everything out.

Diggnation seeems like a great experiment for 3d... They are always playing with different video formats... Not long ago, they were outside in a park and tried a new type of video.... A while back they were in the studio and had MULTI video so you could watch them from any angle you wanted to.. A long time ago they did an episode where they experimented with 3d surround sound headphones.. That was a pretty cool episode.

So even if it was only 1 episode, I'd love to see a 3d test of Diggnation. :)

lol. I see you are a skeptic calling it a Gimmick.... I could go into the past and show how people who thought TV's were just a gimmick, or when Videos with sound came out, people thought it was just a gimmick, or when color came out, or when HD came out......

But you wouldn't listen...

Smiles...

People who don't embrace the future remind me of old men sitting on their porch telling "damn kids" to "get of their lawn."

Oh I guess I also shouldn't bother mentioning that video games were also considered a fad and gimmick and no one thought they would last either.....

Or how the "moving picture" was considered a gimmick.. After all pictures were standard at that time, who cares if they "move"

We are in the in between phase for 3d right now... Not really infancy, but not quite mature yet... But rest assured.. It's coming... It won't die.

by the way (2 x 2d) That's funny.. 2 x 2d would be 4d... They haven't invented anything past length, width, and height yet... Unless they invent a pair of glasses that lets you see Time... Though I guess that has a few years to go.. lol

Though I guess that has a few years to go.. lolactually ... It is 4D. Without the content change in time progressing the image, all you would have is a static stereogram. Notice I didn't say 3D? It's not 3D. It's an optical trick played by offset 2D images. Hence tehboris calling it 2x2D.

I found this on another forum article that someone posted.....

I am an 80 year old retired photographer who has been shooting stereo slides since 1952 with the same Stereo Realist camera. I would like to make a few comments on the current 3D controversy.

When will people reporting items concerning the renewed interest in 3D going to get their facts straight. If someone feels that a subject is worth writing about they should at least do some basic research. An article called, "NVIDIA Takes Video Games Into 3D" states: "This approach is called stereoscopic because the computer sends separate images to each eye. Objects in the two images are slightly offset from each other?a gap the brain interprets as depth, resulting in a compelling 3D illusion." The 3D image is NOT an illusion. An illusion is an erroneous perception of reality. A misleading visual image. When you observe something, the parallax difference between the left eye image and the right eye image enables the brain to construct the stereoscopic image. When you observe a 3D image through some kind of visual aid you are experiencing that same difference in parallax, which means it is a real image and not an illusion.

Sounds to me that it is true 3d.. not 2 x 2d.. Not just an illusion.... If this person is correct.

By the way tehboris.. You say 3d is a gimich and you want it to die fast... I only have 1 question for you.

Why you be hating??? Does 3d effect you right now? No... If you don't want to game in 3d (atleast right now) then you don't have to.. Why do you have to wish it dead and ruin it for all the people who want/like it????

Now when the next gen consoles come out and every game is in 3d (if there is no option for 2d) and you still hate it, then I could see your negative attitude towards it.

But right now, it doesn't affect you, so I ask you again..

Why you be Hatin'?

Don't hate the 3d player, hate the game (that supports 3d) ;-)

Old photographer dude is incorrect.
It is an illusion.
Why?
Because 3D stereoscopic vision is what you get when you look at an object and perceive depth. There are no red/blue filters involved, no shutter lenses, no special viewers. 3D is a natural interpretation.
The minute a mechanical device is required to present separate images to the person, it is not 3D, it is an illusion of 3D. He is correct on the whole parallax thing, but misses the point on the mechanical device side of things.

I be hating (as it where) because well, couple of reasons.

Some film producers are taking abominations of movies, and adding 3D so they actually sell. In the same vain, movie producers are adding all sorts of rubbish to the actual film to 'use' the 3D effect. Which ultimately just looks stupid (e.g. objects 'flying' at the camera in perfect focus filling much of the foreground while the actual content of the shot also remains in perfect focus behind said object. I really dislike seeing this effect and it screams "look how interesting this movie isn't, so here is a over used and obvious effect". A movie should not require 3D to be good. Similarly, a good movie that is in 3D should not abuse this gift (that is to say, it should look real, no giant stuff hitting you in the face unnecessarily and similar).

As for gaming in 3D, basically the same applies again, with the exception that it potentially does open the avenue that games could make use of the stereoscopic views. For example, the battle with psychomantis from Metal Gear Solid could be even more freaking you out if, for example, psychomantis floated back and forth between each eye. This is just abusing the technology however (which is what psycomantis did!), not actually making use of 3D.

I will be happy with 3D when 3D is actually 3D, that is, creating a true three dimensional representation of an object that can be viewed from any angle and you see the entirety of the object.

I will give you that a lot of movies use it as a gimmick... Though once the new wears off, people will rely less on in your face action fo rthe 3d effect, and find creative ways to implement it...

However, I believe that gaming and 3d fit perfectly together.

People who like games like immesion.. That's why we buy surround sound speakers, huge monitors that put us up into the action... This is why rumble features on controllers have became popular.

3d in gaming is just the next step... I just started playing Batman Arkham Asylum and it looks amazing in 3d.. I tried playing in in 2d afterwards and I just couldn't..It was just a better experience playing it in 3d...

I wish college would end, so I can get back to that game..

Just for the record, I also played Mass Effect 2 and Portal in 3d.... I didn't like it so much.. It didn't look so good.. Mass Effect 2 really looked bad I am sorry to say..

Though those games were not made to use 3d like Batman was.. As long as games come out that were made to take advantage of 3d vision, I look forward to testing those games out..

Even if 3d tv doesn't catch on, I think 3d PC gaming will.. And soon 3d console gaming.. Though it will take a lot longer for consoles because of the cost of 3d tv's at the current moment...
