Cap either dies in CW #7 or ends up being Ronin.
Other than that, I think this is a really interesting team.

I Think this is an absolute awesome team!!!
Besides Echo...
Spiderman will have his black suit along with iron fist and luke cage, this is freaking great!!!
I had a long talk about the Ronin thing with the owner of my LCS, he doesnt think its Cap. He actually beleives Cap dies with Winter Solgier taking his place...
Of course with the obvious, it's hawkeye! (Its not.)
but to be honest.... its either going to be Ben Reilly, or speedball.
This i heard from Bendis himself while talking to Yu on the stahl over from me at a McDonalds bathroom.
and to think... why would Dr.Strange end up leaving his Civil War Purgatory.... the death of his friend Steve Rogers....
it could actually happen guys.

"At least if Cap becomes Ronin, the body type will actually match."
No Kidding! Ronin seems like a really cool character, i really dig the costume... but Echo is just blah to me.
But i cant see Cap becoming a Samurai Warrior....
thats almost as far fetched as Spiderman unmasking on public televisssssahhhhhhhhh ummmmm. wait. Ronin is Cap.
By the way guys, this forum totally kicks ass!!
I've always wanted to post on the main site but it always seemed too cluttered. this is great guys!
thanks!

Yeah, I'm loving these forums myself.
Yeah I've been excitedly watching each announcement for the last week and a half and I'm happy. I love Luke Cage and Danny Rand. I'm glad they're doing the whole Power Man and Iron Fist thing again. Also in yesterday's installment they said that the team will be led by Cage which is probably the coolest thing ever.
And then there's Wolverine. How can you go wrong(unless you put him in Blade)?
Spider-Woman has that whole awesome Hydra storyline that they've indicated will continue. Excited there
Spider-Man is a great character who looks like he's going to go through a lot of shit in the near future. Parker in peril is gold.
Dr Strange, or as I call him, Dr Mutha****in Strange. I hope he's more BKV asshole Dr Strange than oooh the magics are strong with you dr strange
Echo is on the team too
The new and improved mystery Ronin may end up being the best or worst thing about the team. It would be cool if it was Cap but there are a lot of other ways it could go too that would be cool - like if it was Daredevil(won't happen doesn't even make sense but still cool)
As for the death of Cap, it can't happen in CW 7 because TBolts 110 takes place after that and they have the commercial for the Cap the Terrorist figure. It would be a big ****up that I'll never stop whining about.
and I know I'm not alone
I can't say **** here? what are we amish?

I'm not sure how I feel about this team. It kind of seems like Bendis just decided to throw all his favorite/most popular characters here. There's not a single classic Avenger on the team (other than Dr. Strange... maybe... no idea). Meanwhile Mighty Avengers is littered with old school characters.
As for Cap dying, I can definitely see it happening. However, I think if Tony does the dirty deed that at that point, even with all the bad publicity Tony's gotten so far in Civil War, THEN Marvel will have crossed the line with what kind of horrible things they can make that character do. There's no possible way you can have Iron Man kill Captain America and walk away saying "we at least tried to make it balanced" with any credibility.
And yes, if Cap dies, it will definely be the Winter Soldier replacing him.

ive loved the spidey / luke cage quips in the early issues. after reading iron fist #2, i think there's a lot of humor potential in the iron fist / luke cage combo too.
There's a lot of humor potential and also personality in this lineup. It should be great

That is next week's Ronin themed issue, isn't it? I mean the Echo/Ronin issue. Not the first isse of the New New Avengers. Man, what I dork I am for needing to make that clear.
It's #27 which ships next week or the 14th(I think it's this one). 27 has been heralded as the start of the new New Avengers I believe

I thought the Echo/Ronin issue was a transition from Civil War to the New New Avengers. Similar to the Hawkeye story. Not apart of Civil War, but not quite in it's aftermath.

I'm an Avengers advocate and a Bendis booster, but ever since this "announcement" I have been itching to say: isn't the new team... pretty much the old team? And a couple of their friends?
"Check out this lineup, True Believer: Spider-Man! Wolverine! Spider-Woman! Luke Cage! Ronin/Echo!"
"...Yeah. I remember."
I like the team; don't misunderstand.

it may in fact be that but I believe that the hype machine has settled around 27 as the benchmark so I'm excited to see the final 15 pages

There are some shared members sure but there are some new ones too that should provide for some interesting storylines/interactions. For instance: Power Man & Iron Fist on the same team again. Or Dr. Strange and whatever he brings. Or Ronin, whomever that may be. Also, Echo should actually be in the book now.
There are differences. They're not Earth shattering but this should give them plenty to do for now at least

I am excited about two new Avengers titles. Bendis has done a remarkable job at transforming Marvel from the X-Machine into a new kind of beast. I am looking forward to seeing where Bendis, along with Loeb take Marvel from here. I hope there is no turning back.

I definitely agree that this lineup is a whole lot less "traditional" than the normal Avengers line-up, but the individual members intrigue me a whole lot more than the other line-up, which I find kind of boring (sorry).

In the Newsarama interview with Bendis http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/newavengers/meet_the_new.html, he says: "the New Avengers are chasing something, but they’re also being chased. They are fugitives from the law, they are not allowed to be together, they are not allowed to be functioning in society. They’re rebels, they’re criminals, and that weighs heavy on them all of them, because a lot of them have families and a lot of them have given up everything to purse what they are pursuing, and at the same time they’re being chased by who were their best friends. "
Sounds like Civil War ends up with pro-registration winning.

When I say I can't wait for it to be over, I mean the Civil War mini-series that has its tentacles in every other book. Once those books are released from the cultches of the event crossover, I'm quite excited to see how the post-Civil War world plays out in the Marvel U.

Brian Bendis offered this Avengers tidbit in his article with Newsarama: "Dr. Strange sets up a series of spells so that from the outside looks like his house has been sold to Starbucks, and a Starbucks is “Coming Soon”, and if you go inside it looks like it’s been abandoned forever and that he’s moved away to Wundagore Mountain and is never coming back. But if you know the magic word, it’s a lively, great headquarters where everyone can live and be happy, but even that spell … Iron Man ain’t buying it, and there is even a battle of magics that goes on to try to discover them. To New Yorkers, any building you see being turned into a Starbucks, you just walk away and say “Oh, that’s too bad’ … it wouldn’t surprise you that any building is turning into a Starbucks, even as building a great as Dr. Strange’s. "

Apparently BKV's the Hood is going to be the new "Godfather of Supervillains". I dunno this sounds kinda wierd to me, the guy never struck me as overly evil, but I'm going to wait 'till after i read it to make judgement.
Oh, and an aside; I always laugh a little when someone says that Dr. Strange is too powerful for the Avengers, or is just a deus ex machina. What about Sentry? Although to be fair no one really likes him (I enjoyed the first half of the original mini, but notsomuch after that). And of course there's always that classic guy, hmmm? what's his name? Oh yeah, THOR! You know like the god of thunder!
I'm not out to insult anyone, just thought it was funny
With Dr. Strange, my main concern is that we've been getting BKV's awesome Dr. Stephen "the asshole" Strange for several months now. Can Bendis write him as effectively?
Don't take my point wrong, Bendis is one of the greatest going today but this Dr. Strange characterization that we've been getting is fairly fresh and Bendis can't write everybody well(cough cough Wolverine cough).
The deus ex machina thing concerns me a bit but only because I hate reading a story to shortly after find out that it no longer really happened. I think that Marvel will probably be reluctant to use him that way though as painful retcons tend to garner fanboy rage these days.

When Bendis and Finch took over Avengers #500, I am sure readers at that time had the reservations about the then New Avengers/B] line up.
For me, this is the great part of both the newly announced teams for [B]Mighty Avengers and New Avengers.....who knows what we can expect. I'm looking forward to an unpredictable ride!

Well, my initial doubts that the new New Avengers would be at best a b-team have been laid aside with #27. Though it serves its purpose as a transition issue, I have to admit that I actually got excited when the new line-up finally appeared late in the book. Loved the ninjas, Spider-man cracking wise, and Luke Cage as new ex-defacto team leader. I was also won over by the new Ronin.
So what did you make of the exchange between Echo and Ronin: "Matt?" "Not exactly." "Who ARE you?"

I was more interested in the line that began,"Yo, Cage..." Based on Bendis' track record with the character, isn't that a dead giveaway it's The Falcon? Either way, it doesn't sound like Cap.

Very interesting theory about the Falcon. I'm wondering whether it still might be Matt Murdock. Marvel said that the Daredevil wouldn't be a member of NA, but were mum about Murdock apart from his alias.
As for Cap, I still think he's going to pull a Nick Fury, go underground, then possibly re-emerge as a full member of the New Avengers in a few issues.

Good issue and a good debut for the new lineup. Don't think Ronin is Cap. Definitely leaning toward the Falcon theory
will_lund
02-08-2007, 02:29 AM
I agree that it could be the Falcon, but the fighting style is very different. All of his dialogue seemed to intentially point away from it being Cap, which makes me skeptical. Bendis would definatley try to mislead us by having him do something out of character. I like the idea of it being the Winter Soldier.
The line-up is very bold. It's the team I would put together if I needed a squad to do exactly what they did in this issue. A group of gritty brawlers that can each take care of themselves in a close-quarters fight, while having Doc Strange there to port in and out.
All of his dialogue seemed to intentially point away from it being Cap, which makes me skeptical.
My initial post about the Falcon was partly tongue-in-cheek, poking fun at the jive dialogue Bendis gave the Falcon in NA #21. It didn't sound iike Cap, but he could totally change up the talk a bit if he were undercover, I'm guessing. And the Echo/Ronin exchange didn't do anything but acknowledge that we as readers would be having exchanges like this.
Anyway, that first splash page was worth the price of admission.
Holy Crap. He told me, if I see you, to give you this
Next time you see him, can you remind him to gimme back my Dixie Chicks CD? Mfer's the worst at returning sh*t!

I like the idea of it being the Winter Soldier.
I can totally see it being the Winter Soldier. Afterall, the reason that each of the members is on this new New Avengers team is because Cap asked them. What better way to reintegrate Bucky back into the superhero universe than by asking him to be an Avenger? The body size and skill set fit.
The Falcon. The Winter Soldier. Other theories?

I wasn't going to get into the "Who is Ronin?" stuff. I was going to just sit back and enjoy the story, but to Hell with that, this is half the fun of comics. I am throwing in with the Winter Soldier theory. I like it more than the Falcon, Matt Murdock and Hawkeye theories. He is a warrior without a country and he was close with Cap.
And the New Avengers being superheroes again. Fighting bad guys... oh how I missed that.
