After the way Sony has treated people with the ps3, I would not knowingly purchase any of their products.

How have Sony treated people with the ps3 that seems to offend you?
How have Sony treated people with the ps3 that seems to offend you?
I'll take a stab at answering, since they offended a lot of people...
Sony's policy is much like Apple's, limiting how users can use their products. So it's basically been a cold war between user and Sony for using the PS3 for anything other than what it was sold for.
So pretty much every update to the PS3 firmware was mainly to counter a jailbreak method, more often than fixing or adding system tweaks/patches.
This doesn't effect most users but more recently, in a rather overkill move, Sony removed the ability to optionally install alternate OS on the PS3, which was one of its original selling points. A well known example is Stanford University has run Folding@Home with networked clusters of PS3's running linux.
While people who didn't even use the feature still got upset over its removal as a feature crippling move by Sony. So they took Sony to court over it and I believe it's still ongoing...

That's nice.
But none of them are using the ps3 for playing games.
The boot straight into ydl.
Their performance is not impacted.
They were advised to not perform the firmware upgrade.
Sony worked directly with many of those organizations to resolve issues with the firmware.
Still trying to see how Sony is at fault here.
Fwiw - many of those organizations have moved off ydl anyway (and were already in the process of doing so long before sony updated its firmware) and the list is largely historical. Cuda and gpu programming is the big thing now, and lot easier to program for than cell processors.
Feel free to go tilting at windmills though.
How many Home users were affected by this?

So it's the user's fault for getting screwed over???? How Mickey Mouse. Sony took away what was promised and in use. Obviously it's "BAIT AND SWITCH".That's a crime where I come from.
Lets not forget Sony Traitorware from a few years back.

HAHA! you gotta be teenager or something.
Some on the list do use the PS3 for gaming as well as server clusters, especially users who only needed the clusters for specific reasons and didn't need dedicated use.
PS3's have also been used as gaming servers, among other uses...
Regardless, some of those clusters were assembled fairly recently and the problem now is when any of those units expire that they now have no option to replace them as all new units will have the updated firmware!

I wouldn't want to own anything but a Sony product. They produce great products. I love their flat panel tv's.
