I drink only on Halloween (my bday) and New years. It doesn't really appeal to me on other days. I am pretty entertaining drunk I can't stop laughing and laugh about everything I see. To be honest I don't really want to drink anymore.

Maybe you just haven't had the right beer. A lot of the mainstream stuff, like Budweiser, Coors, Rolling Rock, etc. are just plain crap and not worth the price of the glass they are bottled in.

I light some light beers, like Corona or Heineken Light. I'm more of a wine-and-mixed-drinker person. But alcoholism also runs in my family (horror stories from hell), so I only drink when someone else is with me. I won't drink alone. And I've really wanted a Godiva chocolate martini for a few days, so it's annoying that no one's been over, mainly because I've been getting home so late that it's too late for people to come over. So no martini for me!

Just getting back to the beers thing for a second, I have to say, I love Rickard's Red (Brewed by Molson) because of its smooth taste. If you've only ever tried the mass-produced shit then that may be where your problem lies. The first time I tried Molson's Canadian (the source of much drunken college humor) I thought that it tasted like piss. I discovered though (and I know that Rickard's is mass-produced now) that darker, more expensive beers like Rickard's, Keith's IPA, Guiness as well as the Gastown ales from BC (microbrew.... aaaaaaaah) are just awesome.

The main reason I drink is to get drunk...actually buzzed. I'm not an alcholic, I only drink in social occasions which tends to be like once a month (I'm an introvert). Beer taste bad if you compare it to juice or soda. You just have to drink for a while and it'll become tolerable, and too some even 'good'. One trick is to drink hard liquor, after that, beer is like water.

BTW, my hispanic bias says to try Corona, cold and with a lemon or lime (I get them confused). It's taste doesn't hit you as hard as other beers.

Not all beer is equal.

If your experience with beer is Coors, or Bud, then you aren't drinking beer.
If you are of legal drinking age, find a local microbrew, and see if they do a "sampler" ... it will give you a chance to find the beer style you might like.

and i live in the middle of nowhere in Indiana, I don't know if there are any microbreweries...Well, I see the problem already ... going from canned domestic beer (I assume canned, since diet coke does not come in beer shaped bottles) to hard core stouts (an aquired taste).

Q. Whats the difference between American Beer and having sex in a canoe?
A. Nothing... they are both ****ing close to water.

Mistake 1. Canned beer ... I dont care what "they" say, it does taste different to the bottled stuff, which tastes different to draft beer.

Mistake 2. Light beer ... light beer is blah. If you are going to go domestic, try something like a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Its a nice light "beginners beer".

Mistake 3. OK, I am biased, but US beer is kinda blah anyway. Go for the import, and I don't mean Labatt (or Fosters). Heinekin has fans around here, so does Carona. Amstel is another good choice for a "light" style beer.

I don't drink PERIOD ..father died of alcoholism and my childhood was tortured ..it was hell so I have a hatred for alcohol..even after my dad and I made peace and we became friends and no matter how hard he tried to quit..he was past the point of no return..then one day his heart blew up(yes alcohol can do that after years of abuse) and he bit his tongue off and I was the one who had to see the mess..(sorry TMI) but I just HATE alcohol...but for some reason I LOVE digg/diggnation and only time watching two guys drink does not bother me...everything else does...wierd..not sure why either.

Token is the God of Lush.I am not a lush :) (hic)

I *do* enjoy good food, and accompanying that good food with good wine or good beer (and perhaps enjoying a good cocktail before the good food accompanied by the good beer or wine, and followed by a nice desert wine like a Tokay, Muscat, Port, Petite Syrah, etc.)

Like many of us here, my father served as a good role model for me. Not a positive role model, but he did show me what drinking to excess and having an obsessive personality can do to a man and his family. I can't say I have a great relationship with him (we talk infrequently), but I did learn some of the finer points of wine appreciation from him, and gained a passion for good red wine and cheese. Unlike him though, I know when to stop.

ha now i shall tear into you choice of booze

red wine : ok
Vodka

Vodka is a clear liquor manufactured from ethyl alcohol. It lacks color, and normally has very little taste or aroma.

Vodka is the base ingredient for many cocktails, mixed drinks, and alcoholic products today.

It is said to have been originally created from potatoes in Russia for medicinal purposes. Nowadays, Vodka is distilled from barley, wheat or rye.

Adulterated vodkas are now a popular alternative to the original. These will normally contain a mixture of sweeteners, flavourings, colorings and fruit juices. Most flavored vodka contains 30-35% alcohol, whereas clear vodka is normally 40%, with a few brands offering a 50% product on top i.e. girlie drink

Everclear is a pure grain alcohol. The brand, produced by David Sherman Corporation, comes in two strength bands, both 95% (190 proof), and 75.5% (151 proof) bottles. Although, the 95% is undeniably the most popular and most available type.

Many of the US provinces have made it illegal to buy Everclear and it's very uncommon to see the most potent of the Everclear products sold outside of America.

And it's for good reason too. Everclear is incredibly potent and should be used strictly and responsibly. Don't drink it straight.......hobo drink

Rum

Rum is one of the oldest and most varied of distilled spirits. It is distilled from the extracted juice of the sugar cane plant, or in some cases the by-product of the refining process known as molasses. Almost all rum is aged in charred oak casks from anything upto and beyond 30 years (although often less than 15), inheriting a golden to dark brown color over time. Rum aged in steel tanks remains colorless.

The Caribbean is host to a variety of the world's rum products, and is also the origin of rum dating back to the 17th century. Rum products often differ greatly. Puerto Rican Rum for example, is a golden, light-bodied rum aged for at least 3 years, whereas Jamaican Rum is a rich dark rum, naturally fermented for about 3 weeks, distilled twice in pot stills and aged in oak casks for at least five years..........if it is 151 then i am with you

Bad experience with Jim Beam was all i needed to make me realize i didn't enjoy being drunk, and never enjoyed the taste. That teamed with the history of alcoholism in my family was more enough for me to quit doing it - for a long time.

I like Corona and some mild beers. I haven't yet developed a palate for darker brews. I might work on that one day, might not. I'm so calorie-obsessed that I don't want to find a drink I really like and crave if I can't have it.

My first beer was a symphony of ass and mouldy liquorice pirouetting on my palate. My second, combined with a fizzy drink, formed a dark and loathsome sludge with extra bubbles for that dynamic spark of hate just waiting to blitzkreig the tongue. The third was consumed under duress from one of my older brothers, and had the added feature of rushing by too fast to really be tasted. At least, going down.
I'm not really of a mind to try any more.

I just turned 20, and I prefer vodka or other such easily mixed drinks, when I drink at all. Not enough value for the amount of money you have to spend on them. That, and my father dying of liver cancer 2 years ago. :/

Not a drinker at all. Just don't like the taste of any alcoholic beverages I have tried at all, and don't like what they do to me.

A. Nothing. They are both fscking close to water.

That's not a fair joke though. The big brewery commerical beers are terrible - bud, miller, coors, etc., but as you move from them onto the smaller breweries like Sam Adams the quality goes up. Then you get the microbreweries (both larger commerical operations that have enough capacity to sell retail, and smaller local places), and there are some amazing beers coming out of them, in many different styles - german, belgian, czech, barleywine, etc.

Only time I've ever had a drink in my life was when I had the neck of a beer bottle literally shoved down my throat.

Other then that. I don't drink. alcoholism runs in my family on my da's side.

I don't drink (not because I think alcohol is bad or I haven't found any good beverages to drink) and when I did I always mixed Koskenkorva Vodka with different kinds of soft drinks, or cider + shots if I was in a pub, but I've never been able to appreciate the taste of beer at all.

I won't ever bother "learning" to like it either, as I think that's ridiculous; why would I try to learn to appreciate something when I can drink stuff I already like instead?

There are a wide variety of wines, mixed drinks, ales, ciders and beers that I enjoy. However mainly I just drink a glass or two of wine with dinner depending on what I'm eating. I've been digging Strongbow cider lately as well.
