sorry quick crappy camera phone shots while it was gloomy and raining outside here in san francisco.

if you dont have xbmc i highly recommend buying a old xbox and hacking it your self or pre hacked one from ebay.. you can play all those legal videos you downloaded :P

Dude, the XBMC is awesome. It actually makes me want to get an original xbox, ad a bigger hard drive and drop this mod onto it.

Speaking of which, do you know where there are some online tuts for this stuff?

your best bet for all your xbox needs is http://xboxscene.com the tutorials section.

you will need to find a xbox thats revision 1.6 and under last i checked 1.7 was a ***** to mod.

Then get the mod chip, you can do that now with a spider chip, ie no soldering how ever if u move the box alot it might pop out of the holes and u have to readjust them.

you can also on older ones use an exploit to where you don't need a mod chip but a usb key and some software .. it really depends on your skill level and really if you dont have the skill, time i would just by one on ebay modded with bigger hd in it.

check out the link tho, lots of ways to do stuff.

no 360 hack yet, their is a way to use tvesity software on your pc and on your 360 connect to the tversity media share and it transcodes videos into wmv and streams them to your 360.. deff not as nice as the complete xbmc system.

thing to watch out for the old xbox is higher quality video HD, x264, h264 arnt going to play since the cpu doesn't have enough speed to process these but anything else works like a charm :P

I'm actually looking to get rid of my modded Xbox. I just don't have the time to get the XBMC stuff all figured out and set up for what I want to do with it. Even better that it would be going to a fellow Rev3 member. Check it out and PM me if you're interested (http://charlotte.craigslist.org/ele/273036079.html).

I have to think that MS will work some sort of web-video capibilty into a future XBOX 360 update.

However, I bet they'll try and do some Zune tie-in to promote that P-O-S.

I stream via a Dlink DSM-320 (wireless media player) Works great. i just grab the large XVid. That's awesome though that you can do a streaming over the net feed with the XBMC.

you know, i have had pretty decent sized arguments about xbmc vs other methods options and hands down nothing beats a single box with component out and one of the best put together pieces of software that you can control with your remote.

quick specs

play video almost any format except for the higher bit rate h264 videos (thats fine)

grab imdb info for your video and associate the imdb thumb with your video folder (browse by icons then shows the cover of the video)

ability to adjust audio sync if its out of whack

photos, slide shows

audio, play back, streaming audio, get music info and thumb from freecddb

python scripts - so many to list, quick time trailers, revision 3, twit, dltv, all kinds of stuff. decent list http://xbmcscripts.com/

complete setting system, ftp enabled, web enable, calibrate screen for video and a million other things

weather, ability to pull weather in, and show it in a very cool skin

skin changing ability, currently i use the default which is one of that kick ass skins, but their is also one that looks like your 360 for you visual types head on over here to see that the skin looks like and most of the options of xbmc http://www.chokemaniac.net/gallery.php?cat=pm3

mount your smb shares, I have a 1.6 tera raid where all my media is stored and organized in my office, my media room has my big screen all audio stuff and xbox wired. component out and digtal audio out.

you will find nothing like this that can compete in presentation (skin) , options, and expandability.

There are ways to softmod (I.E. not with a mod chip) a xbox. It is WAY cheaper and SUPER easy. It took me all of 5 min. Check out episode 106 of DL.tv it will walk you through most of the process and point you in the direction of where and what is needed to start.

I totally love XBMC, I use it every day to watch content and listen to music. I started a XBMC thread a little while ago here

Keep in mind XBMC (XBox Media Center) is not the same thing as say.. Xbox360's Media Center... or the Media Center Extender kit. (They pretty much use the same names)

I've used XBMC for a few years now, and I keep around a Halo LE xbox with an x3 chip I got for free from a past job I had in the modchip industry. It's really worth it, and I'm pretty sure M$ doesn't give a crap what goes on with their old console now as much as they used to. So, pretty much any recently released (within a year) modchip will function properly on it.

I was just pointing out to whomever was discussing "is xbox media center only for xbox?" quote, because as far as i know there is no homebrew software for the 360 publically released. Privately, I'm sure there is something. Besides, we don't really need an XBMC for 360, you can pretty much do the same sort of features. Then again, downloading rar files and configuring XBMC to unpack and stream them as you are downloading rar files is pretty cool. You know, for when you download 10 x 50mb rar files of say, diggnation?.. heh... heh...

Correction - i just checked out a few sites and realized people are building homebrew apps via the XNA somehow? Nifty.

yea. well as people release more and more h264 videos the xbmc (old xbox) wont be able to play them , esp things at 720p and higher, so the need for a 360 version would rock since it has enough horses to make it go..

where did you read about xna version something similar?

I saw people releasing emulators via the XNA Creators Club ($99/year on Xbox Live Marketplace) - so anyone who is in the creators club can use the emulator/etc. (aka, pays $99 a year, or $44 per 4 months) I'm sure it's possible to develop a XBMC-type application now with this devkit being made semi-public to the people who pay $99. In a few days I will be joining after I toy with the windows version of the kit, to see if I can actually make anything usable.

The creators club actually lets you develop and test games using the express software it comes with, which seems totally cool if you are into game developing at an early level (highschool/college student). So maybe someone will get some nice playback going. If they have emulators working, I'm sure video playback isn't too far off. I'll see about streaming revision3 shows or something similar... but like I said, I have little or no experience in console development - I just hope this devkit is easy to pick up on. :)

yea, i know about XNA , we looked into working on a small game back a few months ago, im not sure that M$ will allow for video playback and as far as I know their is no network support in XNA yet.

if you really really want to stream revision 3 to your 360 go here (http://tversity.blogspot.com/2006/11/wmv-transcoding-for-xbox-360-is-here.html).

it basically transcodes if it needs to to wmv which then acts as a media service that the 360 can see, then in the media blade, you can select videos, connect to your tversity computer and stream back any video you have added in tversity, this includes video files on your hd, rss feeds, etc.

I tried it a while ago and revision3 videos worked great also, how ever this is such a messy set up.
