Hmm. Interesting. SF always had its very intriguing "mystique". I want go Ranger after I get commissioned. So you were in the Alabama NG the entire time? How many combat tours did you get to endure? I do know what you mean about the armor. I going to assume your tour in the sandbox was around 2003-2004'ish. My former Marine unit didn't rate armored plates for the IVA for the same reasons.

i hate thread robbery. thought hijacking. moroms.

yeah i was in the ANG the entire time. i went to iraq 2003 for a 6 month rotation got shipped back in 2005 just got home about 3 week ago.

i am big fan of rangers i went through their jump school to get my wings. great guys.

A friend of mine was in the Army, applied for the Rangers, got transferred in, and thats where he stayed.

He is shit scared of heights (still is), but decided to become a Ranger for the extra $$$. Go figure :)

Then there is the story (I will call it a story because I can't verify the facts) that a colleague of my Mum told me about his stint cross training with US Rangers in the Australian outback (he was SAS - Special Air Service ... very similar to Army Rangers in duties). He said, that they convinced the Rangers that because they were in the Southern Hemisphere, their equipment (GPS and Compass) worked backwards. Story goes that the Rangers got themselves hopelessly lost :D

BTW - I mean no disrespect for the miliary. I was this close >< to joining the RAAF as a flight engineer myself, and often wonder what my life would have been like if my application to ADFA had actually gotten sent in rather than getting lost among the pile of university apps after highschool. I had gone through informal interview, spent time at the Richmond RAAF base talking to their engineering officers (even eating lunch in the officers mess - which was impressive to a 17 yo), been through the psych workup, etc. Funny how things work out.

Right on. I have done two combat tours myself (3rd BN/1st Marine Regiment Afghanistan early '02, 3rd Bn/5th Marine Regiment Iraq March '03). Now that I'm in the Army, I would love to become a Ranger.

Seems to me everyone that enlists ends up going overseas

There's a high operations tempo in the armed services. However, not everyone that enlist sees combat.

that's true i know of a couple of accountants who hasn't gone over yet.

all joking aside if you enlist fresh today, you will see combat. that where the fresh troops are needed.
