I for one think this is all just a bunch of bullcrap, first of all, WoW, OMG wtf is with that game that everyone is supposedly all addicted. IDK really, gaming for me, is an escape and an entertainment. I bet its easier to leave a computer or your 360 for a week than a pack of cigarettes. Its not an addiction!!!

god damn im tired of hearing all this bull, specially from these old fart Psychiatrist's who think they know everything

yeah but to me drinking and gambling are an escape and an entertainment. i do it for fun and i don't let it interfere with my life. so is porn and monkeys(don't ask) but for plenty of people that are problems.

Well its not like the game has subliminal messages that tell you to keep playing, you keep gambling to see if you can get your money back, a whole nother aspect is added when money is involved.

video games, not so much

no that isn't why i gamble. i get a thrill from trying to choose the winning on sports betting and i love casinos. and that doesn't explain drinking.

Addiction is a very real thing, gaming addictions is nothing to laugh about, it's real. Oh, seems your blog has gone Kaput. I agree on the monkeys too.

I dunno...it just doesn't seem like an addiction. To me that's kind of like being addicted to music, TV, radio, or books. Just because one chooses to consume a particular type of media in their free time more than doing anything else doesn't necessarily make it an "addiction."

Doesn't part of the meaning of addiction have something to do with the fact that you can't live the rest of your life without it? If this is really going on for some people over video games, I'm showing my ignorance and I apologize. I've heard about the occasional zany Korean who didn't use the bathroom or eat, and ended up dying, but I'm not familiar with people going to VGA (video gamers anonymous) support groups to kick the habit.

Actually I think there are groups that meet and help with game addiction. Haven't you seen the stories where the parents take away the computer and the person ends up tearing the house apart looking for it or killing themselves cause they can't play. There are some messed up people out there and are addicted to them.

Gaming is like anything. Moderation is fantastic, but too much of a good thing can **** you right the hell up. Gaming addiction is real. I don't mean to lean on a particularily old crutch but look at all those Korean kids they kept finding dead due to lack of sleep/dehydration/exhaustion.

I mean, I really haven't heard any evidence against the presence of gaming addiction. I think the real key though, is just to put the mouse down and log out of that WoW account for a few hours. Go for a walk or something.

its so funny, cause it had nothing 2 do with the game really, it was cause he never left, hardly ate anything, and who knows how much he went to pee. That can kill you.

Because he could not leave the game....I grew up with an addict of sorts and I have his same flaw in a sense where Ihave what many call an addictive personality....you can become addicted to ANYTHING somethings more than others.

A human can become addicted to sex, drugs(non dependant),movies, internet whatever it's more of a human psyche thing...the gameitself addicting no ..but the human can attach themselves to it and make it addicting to them.

Okay, I'm not going to read all the responses, so if this was said, I apologize for the redundancy. Gaming addiction is usually a person escaping reality, an alternate reality, alternate identity, more appealing than reality. It's a mental addition versus a physical one, but real, nonetheless.
