I'm glad the forums are up as I have a major geek crisis I need help with?

I was planning to trade my PS2 and games in within a few months against a next gen console, but my local gaming store is going to drop the value of a lot of items you can trade in, such old games, consoles, etc. So to get enough for a new console I'll have to sell my stuff in a week or so.

Should I trade my stuff in an get an XBox 360, or hold onto it and save up more money so I can trade it in later for PS3? I'm a pretty casual gamer, I only play a few games at a time, and I see some on the 360 that I would like, but at the same time, I've always had PlayStation console, never an XBox before. I don't think I can afford both, is the only thing.

What do you guys think?

Have you considered getting a Wii? Either way, I think you should wait until the demo kiosks are available at stores so you can play them to see which one you like the most.

I am enjoying my 360 a lot. I say if you're going to lose money by waiting, trade in now.

Frankly, being an early adopter on a console is just asking for trouble... I'm so glad I waited until this summer to get my 360 instead of fighting to get one right at release, with all the power supply problems they had.

I'd say a 360.

I've had a 360 for about 5 months now. I love it, but I will say it's not a perfect console. I find myself spending more time playing the Live Arcade games then I do playing most any regular games. As far as the PS3 goes... I'd say don't bother. Especially since I have a sinking feeling it's to be the loser in this round of consoles. I'm no M$ fanboy, I just think the price is going to scare away far too many gamers for it to have the success of the PS2 which I still own. Besides Oblivion I don't really have that "killer" app for my 360 like I had numerous ones for the original xbox and PS2 (God of War and Guitar Hero still rock). Dead Rising is quite fun, but can get really frustrating at times. If the games don't appeal to you then don't bother. I plan on buying the Revolution (I refuse to call it that other name) when it comes out and if for whatever reason it survives and gets some awesome exclusive titles I may eventually buy the PS3, but it's way down on my want list.

Oh I also meant to say as far as the trade in goes. If you use EB Games or Gamestop you can trade the stuff in now for the current credit value and save the money for something later. Ask them to put it on a card. I traded in my PSP (sorry. wasn't a big fan) and some games and got almost enough credit for my new Nintendo.

I'm expecting a price drop soon from the 360 cos they're using that different chip now which is cheaper to manufacture. But yeah I think you should get it if that trading in stuff is gonna drop value soon otherwise you should wait a bit. And you can get games on amazon for like £35. Dabs is doing a pretty good deal at the moment for the premium bundle, 2 wireless controllers and project gotham for £284

right now i would tell anybody to get a 360 that is looking for a new system. Stuff like Dead Rising, Saint's Row, whatnot are out right now that are really fun. And there are too many awesome looking games on the horizon. Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero II, Gears of War, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Banjo Kazooie. I could go on. Microsoft just continues to make the 360 better all the time. If not the 360 i would go with a Wii. the ps3 is going to be extremely hard to find, and probably not worth the bucks for a year or so when more games are out.

Right now I am leaning towards the 360.

Mainly, I want a new console soon, and the 360 is out now. Waiting for the Wii or the PS3 has problems, as they will be hard to get, and the PS3 especially will not be out for a while.

I can only afford one console, and the Wii has always struck me as a 'second console' type of system. I don't think I could get by with just a Wii, even as a casual gamer. The PS3 is looking more and more disppointing, and some of the games I previosuly would have kept a PlayStation to play (GTA for exmaple) will now be released on the XBox at the same time (if I'm not mistaken).

So unless there are any major problems I haven't heard of with the 360 I think I'll go for that. Any more thoughts?

no one really knows when the ps3 is coming and if its going to run ok in the beginning... I just remember the first release of the ps2...

go for it dude. there are alot of good games out... xbox live rocks... and if you are going to loose more money by waiting just do it.

I'm going to have to agree with the rest of the posts here. I have always been a Sony fangirl, hands down. But I do not plan on buying a PS3 for a long time, Sony dropped the ball this time around. I did, however, just buy a 360 a few weeks ago and it is SO worth the money (especially if you have an HDTV). The Xbox live arcade is great, you will be surprised how much time you will spend playing some of those games. So far I've played Dead Rising (awesome but frustrating), Lego Star Wars II (nothing but fun), and DOA 4 (love it, solo or on Xbox live).

Keep in mind too that the 360 has been out for almost a year now and the second wave of games are coming out soon. The developers have had time to learn how to use the console's potential, and there are some really promising titles releasing soon (Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect).

Good luck!

360 by far. Cheaper, WAY better online play, plus they have teams now working one so many different things for XBL right now it's nuts. Breifly Microsoft has said the will have competitions setup where people who have the game can enter to play, while those who don't will be able to stream and or download the matches for viewing. Plus two words three sylobols HALO 3!!!!!

Heres the thing, what console has the games you want to play? Thats your answer, dont worry about the technology. Well, I guess Id say worry about the tech depending on your tv. Is it HD? If not then dont worry about the tech, its really not part of your decision.

I love my 360, I will be buying a Wii as well tho...Just play both and pick one(if you cant get both) but that means you have to wait a little wile longer to play the Wii.

But the 360 is very fun, the Marketplace and Live and Arcade are all great

The 360 is a very well conceived console, and if you are taking a console online it is the one to get. Right now the games aren't quite there yet but they are deff. coming. As a console, however, it is a very well conceived system from the controller to the menu system.

I'd say the only thing you need to remember when buying a 360 is getting the extended warranty. Until those new chips roll out in 2007, the problems with the system will probably persist. I had mine since February, and it was all praises, from the beautifully conceived dashbaord experience, smooth XBOX Live support, XBLArcade, to the (IMO) great controller. Then, just last week, I got the 3 rings of death. I left the system alone for a while, and started it successfully again, but boy was that a scare.

Thats just my two cents with this system. For whatever reason, it inexplicably dies on you. Even after 7 months of flawless gameplay.

I've had one since feb also and I love the thing, even though it has constant hardware issues. I've already returned one to the factory and had it replaced, and it's a regular occurrence for me to be playing a game, as soon as it goes to a cutscene or a different spot on the disk the game crashes and gives me a little notification saying to clean the disk. On top of all of that, I still love the system and would still reccomend it to anyone, 90% of the time it works perfect. As far as games, it depends on what you like, I've had no issue always having a game waiting for me to play and haven't had to wait a few weeks for a release to be able get ma game on.

Only suggestion I would make, is if the place you buy it from offers a warranty then take it, because it'll be alot less frustrating to take it there and get a new one the same day if the hardware does go rather than waiting 1-2 weeks for microsoft to fix it.

I bought a 360 at launch, well in that month (I cheated, bought a core system then bought a hdd seperate, eventually got a wireless controller). but I havent had any problems at all with it, been working great. bought kameo, pgr3, and pd0 with the console, and eventually bought oblivion and hitman. The next game I will probably get is gears of war (which i think will be huge this year) but ive been getting games from gamelender, tried saints row, dead rising, enchanted arms, and a bunch others. Ive been pretty satisfied.

may get a wii also, but i still think that waving my hands around to play a game for more than 10-15 mins is just not that appealing. I think when the hype wears, people will probably ignore that portion of the console.

ps3 is hard to figure, right now they look completly flop bound, but they have very stong brand recognition and that may be enough to get enough people to buy to keep the gamemakers looking at it as the top priority.

I've had my 360 for a month now and I'm really enjoying it.

For me, the biggest thing the 360 has going for it is a proven online component. XBox Live is fantastic... the Arcade, the game demos and videos... so easy.

Wii and PS3 say they're going to do all that, but have shown nothing. If online play isn't a factor for you, I'd say your choice is pretty tricky... comes down to what games you like to play.

Once November hits, there's a ton of great games for 360. I'm most looking forward to Gears Of War, Rainbow 6: Vegas, Lost Planet.

I had it in my hands today at Costco. The $470 super pack they are now offering. (You can't find it anywhere cheaper by the way, Costco is the shit). Yet, once again I chickened out and bought a $500 dollar hooker instead.
