The cheerleader getting tackled and breaking her neck has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever seen. It would have been ok if she broke her arm or something, but how the **** could that have snapped her neck around. God dammit I'm starting to not like this show already.

I can already predict that season 2 of this show is going to be lame because everyone is going to have their powers and all the cool discovery stuff will be done with. However this season 1 is the best thing on TV right now. I'm pretty sick of comedy right now, its getting about as bad as reality tv with them shoving it in our faces.

Well duh! Someone knows about it now, so the future is practically guaranteed to be different than the one Hiro just experienced.

You guys are crazy, this show is great, I'v loved every second of it. It's not your standard fare for tv and it's nice to see tv in the last few years has gotten more and more cinematic with bigger budgets that allow them to make min-movies each week, that's what this feels like to me. Aspects like the mother pinned to the wall with scissors and the dude's head sliced open would have never flown in previous years and it's nice to see that they're willing to push the limit a little more and have different type shows than your standard CSI/law and order and can do these types of show's with one long arc.
The dialouge may not be the greatest, but the creative team behind the show is what keeps me watching with the way they handle shooting the show. Things like how the screen wipes when the japanese dude teleports to new york or his subtitles, and to a lesser extent the S figure with the notches representing the heroes dna/mutaion that kept re-appearing in the newest episode.
Give it some time and you may like it more, it seems like the original pilot was made a couple years ago and after it was picked up they gave it the star treatment and added more writers and Jeph Loeb on as a producer. The jump from the pilot to the 2nd episode was huge and I can only see this getting better as time goes by.

I like the show so far. My only complaint is that this weeks show seemed to be too short or to go by too fast. Either there were a lot of commercials or it was so good that it left me wanting more. All I know is I was wishing it was on for 2 hours after it went off.

I was pretty unimpressed with the pilot, but I liked this one a little better. I can see it improving with every new episode. Some things were kind of dumb like the cheerleader (who is hawt) twisting her neck around, and the stripper (who is also hawt) finding the skeleton buried 1 inch below the ground, but the twist at the end with Hiro made up for everything.
During the part with the cop did anyone else half expect Mulder and Scully to walk into the house?

I felt it was out of chracter for Hiro to pick up the gun. I mean, he's the guy that many geeks watching are going to identify with. So I'm into the episode, into the scene, and then he goes and does something stupid. That pulled me out of the moment and the show.

Living in Australia, we're yet to recieve this series on television, so we have to get via other means.
Unfortunately this has meant that I've missed the first episode, having to satisfy myself with what the second episode offered up.
It wasn't too hard to piece together what was going on, with what now seems to be the compulsory recap at the start of shows in this similar vein (Lost, Prison Break, Jericho, etc). So I think I have a rough idea of what is going on.
That said, I'll agree with the calls that it doesn't look to promising. Hiro's story is the one that has really gotten me interested at the moment, with the dilema at the very end spicing it up quite a bit.
Niki's looks promising too. But other than that, not too much in the way of gripping storytelling. Hopefully it will get better =D

Well, in japan they don't really have guns. The japanese military are probably the only people in japan with access to guns. It was probably Hiro's first time ever seeing a gun in real life. And I would like to think he picked up the gun just in case the guy was still there. I found it more unbelievable that like 12 cops showed up like 2 seconds after Hiro picked up the gun.

He is probably part of the team of evil mutants (the guys that froze the dude chopped his head off, and pinned the girl against the wall). And maybe the team of evil mutants are working for/with the cheerleader's dad, or maybe the dad (and team) is working for the main supervillian who blew up new york.

So you like saying mutant right? The cheeleaders adopted father is I beleive a government agent who who was in the professors apartment at the beginning of ep 1 and was chasing the son later on in the same episode. My theory is somehow the goverment gave him this super powered child (much like supreme power) to try and give her a normal childhood, he then somehow convinced the professor to give him powers by messing with his adopted daughter genes and he has now become a serial killer. But thats just one of many theories I have. I also beleive the cop and the girl from Brick are villians.

Yeah I noticed the patterns also, same as the paintings. That was definitely Isaac, Siler or whoever stole his brains or something. Ali Larter's power seems like her shadow being her guardian angel. I enjoy her character the most however I'm not really into the idea that her shadow can provide her with new items, I'd prefer if she only had work done for her.

I don't think the cop character played by Greg Grunberg will turn out to be a villian. I also am still not sure if the cheerleaders father has powers. If he does have powers I don't think that he is also the serial killer Cyrus or Cylus (something like that). I think whoever killed the family of that little girl that the cop found, there were 2 or maybe three of them. One who was strong enough to lift that lady up and stab her into the stair rails. One who has ice powers maybe. And then maybe a third who is stealing the brains, who would also be the aforementioned serial killer. Could this guy be getting his power from eating super powers brains? Or are the brains being stolen for experimentation? Anyway, I definitely think the cheerleaders dad is connected with the killer or killers in some way.
I too thought that in the early previews there was something about the painter cutting off his hand, though this was never revealed in the show.

I think for sure Cylus is going after people with powers. It is possible that the powers are genetic seeing as the two brothers can both fly, so the little girl may or may not have powers. I think if the killer is just going after the brains of the heroes then her dad must have had powers. But also think of the stripper and her kid. That kid hasn't revealed any powers, unless you count the fact he is wicked smart. And it could very well be I guess...

That sort of thing never happened in Australia - because our rating period and the US ones were out of sync (basically summer is cricket and tennis on TV, and not the US fall/autumn lineup).
I get a kick out of seeing the dates line up as well. CSI do it fairly regularly too. I also like the fact the season seem to line up - you get xmas scenes at xmas, and not in the midle of July.
I'm really enjoying this show, I dont really get into non sitcom american shows, but I'll be watching this, just hope it doesn't get cancelled or something. By the way I know Jon London bad mouthed Everyone loves Raymond the other episode but we have it on the comedy channel in the UK and I have to admit I really like it, it's funny and harmless just something enjoyable to watch when nothing good is on and I'm boredI am probably the same as everyone else, but I moved half way around the world, and every time I see Ray's mother - its as if I was at home again. She *is* my mother ... and that scares me just a little.

And what do people think of that symbol that is everywhere?
We're talking about this show on Episode 46. Episode 45 should be up anytime now. I promise.
People on the Delphi Heroes forum have been calling it a "swoosh". It's like a division symbol turned on end, if memory serves, with an extra bit hanging off each end. When Hiro walked into the artist's loft, one of the larger paintings had it as the main focus, I'll try to see if I can grab a screenshot.

I have a feeling it will end up being the symbol for some organisation or pehaps some double helix component or something similar.
One thing I found funny about the jump into the future was the fact that fly boy's big brother had won the election and it was all over the front page of the paper.

I too thought that in the early previews there was something about the painter cutting off his hand, though this was never revealed in the show.
On the original pilot that was available for bit torrent he cut off his hand and they made this obvious zooming in on the toolbox after he chained himself up and the hand later after it was cut off. On the Genisis pilot they played on tv though, they recut the episode so you never see him having cut it off or missing a hand. Instead of the cut of him staring at the toolbox, they replace it so it seems like he's staring at a painting of the fire they're showing on tv. I don't know why they switched it, whether it was an FCC thing showing dismembered hands on tv or if when they picked it up and started writing the show they thought he may need his hand later on.

Thank you! I had forgotten about downloading that pilot off bittorrents a couple of weeks before it aired. That's where I saw the hand cutting off bit. I doubt it was an FCC thing because they showed dead people with the top of their craniums cut off in the 2nd episode. It must have been that they decided not to have the guy lose his hand.

Regarding the artist's hand, I'm thinking they must have decided he needed to keep it. They very clearly showed him using both hands during his scene with the chick whose father was dying.

I'm going to give the show a few episodes, despite the pilot being absolute crap. The characters were completely unconvincing and they tried to introduce too many elements into the first episode, which in turn diluted the meaning of any of it. And the brothers flying was the goofiest shit I've ever seen.

Negatives:
Dialog and plot is utterly forced and does not flow at all. I feel like the narrator is saying "HEY LOOK A CONNECTION, WE'RE DEEP!" I hope this show will chillout and stop trying to be Lost and be it's own show. SNL or MAD TV could make a hell of a parody.
Also, I could care less about these characters. The show keeps jumping around a little too fast to establish relationships between the viewer and the cast, something they should have stole from Lost. So far the only character that has been given any time to develop is the cheerleader. The broken neck thing was retarded.
Positives:
Hiro. He was the only part worth watching of episode one and was the rallying point of episode two. Picking up the gun was dumb, but people do stupid shit. The twist at the end was nice and hooked me in for at least a fewmore weeks.
The internet whore also got more interesting this week, but still not quite there, I wish she would be her other persona and I could care less about her normal self. At first I thought she was a berzerker, but it seems like it's more of a multiple personality thing, hopfully she has several each with their own powers maybe.
Hopefully in the next few episodes things will come more together. Episode two was much better than episode one, although it faltered some at the beginning. Overall thi show is hit or miss if it stops trying to be Lost, stops forcing itself, and the story and cast gel it will be an awesome show. To sum it up it's an OK show with an assload of potential, but can easily turn into sheer shit if it wanted to.

This might be the most frustrating show on television. I really really want to like it, but it's going nowhere fast.
Those godamned commercial breaks are really really annoying. Their is more commercial than ****ing show, not to mention how they worked a Nissan commercial in. But the most annoying thing is the frequency and length of commercial breaks compared to the show itself. Their may not be more advertisements than other shows, and maybe its just the way they are cut into the show, but it feels like it completely disrupts the flow of the show. From now on I'm going to wait 20 minutes in, and use the Tivo.
Also, the show has no real substance. All it has going is the hook so far. Yeah, I get it, Super Powers are cool, that's why I read comic books. I realize this is reaching a much larger audience than comics, but if that is all they have going for them, then they need to re-write the show. I don't care enough about the characters themselves enough yet to care about whatever problems they have, or are going to have in the future.

By the way, thanks for pointing out the symbol... now I see it EVERYwhere. Did you notice it in the scrolling numbers on Saresh's computer program? It's in the negative space.

A couple points:
1. How are people still getting the name Sylar wrong? We saw it, in print, in the older professer's notebook.
2. For those of you worried about the cheerleader's breasts, take heart... the skin is just peeled back from her chest, and boobs are a layer of fat and tissue beneath the skin but above the muscle layer we saw... as soon as she zips her birthday suit back up, she'll be fine.
3. I was actively looking for the symbol in the scrolling DNA code on the computer screen. I did not see it. However, I can see the images in those magic eye posters at the mall, so it's a tradeoff.
4. Any bets on Hiro's friend and Nicki the stripper becoming true love when they finally meet up? It's just corny enough to work.
5. WTF is up with the hopeful senator? If that were my brother he would have gotten more than a bloody nose. Nice way to burn bridges buddy. Those two will end up on opposing sides in a flying duel at the end of the season, mark my words.
6. I suspect the jock is either looking at some serious jail-time (which will not happen because she will now be up and walking around fine... no dead body, no crime) OR her father swooped in with his sneaky black-ops lab techs and covered up the whole thing, in which case I would say the jock would be killed to cover tracks, were it not for the previews for next week. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Whoever said the bit about the jocks getting away with everything, how do you know he didnt or wont get in trouble for the attempted rape? We barely saw anything after she fell.
Is it just me or does anyone else not beleive that Peter can fly? Because so far it has only happened when he was around his brother. So I think he may have some sort of Rogue type thing going on where he can use other peoples powers for himself but im not sure.
I still think the cop is a bad guy for some reason, I also think the chick from Brick is evil as well.

The ending to this weeks episode was frigin awesome. I said "Oh Shit" out loud at the same time she did. One of the best endings i've seen in awhile.
I just finished watching this weeks episode and I did the exact same thing although despite being 23 I still say crap instead of shit. I love the hiro stuff and I'm glad I get to see it without the ads,
I can't remember whos comment it was sorry but it must be really annoying to get ads all the time. I was watching death of a president on More4 last night and the adverts during that were annoying.
I have to say though that its adverts that pay for this type stuff so they have their good points, but then again worry over ad reveunes have caused some really good show to be cancelled because ratings weren't high enough so overall I dont know were I stand on the whole advert thing.
The bbc make us pay a TV Lience whether we watch it or not but we dont get adverts on BBC owned channels or radio stations.

There was another point I wanted to make earlier but forgot, there is 16 minutes of commercials on this show, the same as every other hour long show on television. Heroes just breaks the commercials up more I guess. The Pilot only had about 8 minutes so maybe thats why everyone feels thier are more commercials?

ok, so I decided that I am going to get into Heroes. I hit the NBC site, but you can only download the latest episode, and only if you live in the U.S. (sadly I live in Canada so can't watch it).
I decided to take the plunge and download it through torrents. Strange thing is that the NBC web site shows 5 episodes, while I can only find 3 episodes on the torrent sites. Can anyone enlighten me on where they are in the show?

Sidebar:
When I was in Japan, I was told that if I got lost, or needed help, to ask a Japanese schoolgirl (no, this is not a perverted hentai cross reference). I got lost coming out of a subway station - there were 17 exits that would pop me up under buildings and on streets all over the Roppongi area, and found a likely candidate. She was a bit wary of me approaching her (a slightly drunk gaijin late at night) in an area that borders the red light district, but really opened up and was helpful when I asked her how to get out, rather than than up to my room.
The thing that got me though was her New York inflection. That surprised me a little.
I guess a lot of Americans teach English in Tokyo :)

that, combined with her kid's comment "they'll never find dad", the fact that she knew where his old gang was buried, and her gangsta ways are what lead me to believe she has no power and the dad is living in her with his power. unless she's herm and is both the dad and the mom.

the rainman scene had me on the floor. My favorite thing is when Hiro stops time and how he clenches up its very funny how he looks like he is taking a dump.

I liked how the one thug-type guy just walked up to hiro and punched him. That cracked me up for some reason.

hes a smart kid. im sure he knew all along.
Well duh... especially since he probably had to a) set up her PC b) do the HTML and scripts for her webpage and c) hook up the video camera.
I'm not saying girls can't be geeks, obviously, but if she had all those kinds of website skills on her own, she could just earn her living doing webpages.

Once I heard nikki say ours I thought it meant it was the dad as well, I said it after last episode when the kid seemed to know where his dad is. May be the kid has powers as well.
But after reading these forums I guess it could of been her split personality saying it and why would the ex sleep with the flying guy, plus the fact she had the symbol tattoed on the back could mean something.

the symbol doesnt quite have a meaning, but its all over the place... its like a big linking factor in the stories.

I still don't buy it that Niki's ex is her other half. How the hell does that work? She said "our son" because she has two personalities and they both are Micah's mom. And she went back to the Senator's room while she was still her "bad" self, didn't she? I'm thinking that her husband was blamed for her actions as her other self.

it looks like a RNA/DNA strand (the whole genetic evolution thing). it doesn't have anymore meaning, yet .....

i don't know, i just got a gut feeling about it. i went and looked up the cast and there's still a character who a. is a fugitive and b. can phase. phase like Kitty or phase like phase into a person's consciousness, who knows?
and just cuz he's a dude doesn't mean he's beyond sleeping with radio flier in niki's form. gangsta's do some crazy ish when pushed.

I really want to know what peters powers are. Can he fly or does he take other people's powers? The flying thing would make more sense because he said he could levitate a little bit in the first episode. And the painter draws him flying in one of the paintings.
Also, does anyone else find the powers sort of unbalanced? I mean one guy can read minds... ok cool somewhat useful. The cheerleader is invincible, cool but pointless because she's still weak and obviously very unlucky (she should have died TWICE). The guy can draw the future, ties the story together. The stripper turns into a killing machine, ok badass. Peter, fly or steal powers? Nathan can fly. And then there is hiro. Hiro can stop time slice everyone in half with his katana, and its over. If he makes a mistake, he can go back in time. If he needs to travel somewhere fast he just teleports. Does anyone else find this kind of unfair. Everyone else kind of sucks compared to hiro. Oh well, he's still the best character, and super-badass.
