Brian... Thanks for this one! Here's my story.
I have a social group of friends (ok, the hash house harriers)... and we have a friend in our group that is amazing at slight of hand. And we always talk about magic and stuff, trying to one up each other.
Saturday night I showed him this great "rope trick". (tying the knot without letting go of the rope). It was awesome, I had a nice sized group of friends. I walked him through a bunch of times... nice and slow. I even stood so he could look over my shoulder and made sure he did every step easily and clearly. Everytime, he couldn't tie the knot. And he got irritated... He KNEW there had to be a move and every time, he didn't see it.
I let him hang for a bunch of times and it was great.
Finally, I gave it up to him and he said, "that's awesome! I'm totally committing that one to memory. I HATE rope tricks because it's always cutting and repairing or something hokey, but that was awesome."
