View Full Version : iPhone App Broken
Just installed the Revision3 iPhone app and it no longer functions properly. Any time I try to load a video the app shuts down. I checked the reviews in the iTunes store and noticed I'm not the only one having this issue.
What's going on?

I've noticed this as well. Whenever you click on a episode to watch it, the media player pops up but shuts down immediately without the video ever showing up.
Older episodes work fine, but anything added in the last week or so is unplayable from the iOS app. I'm guessing they've been screwing around with the encoding settings again.

This most often happens when viewing an HD or large feed on a slightly older generation apple mobile device. 99% of the time, going one size down will play more reliably, stream better, and still look pretty darn good. Give that a try if you have a minute and are still having problems!
I guess that's what I get for using a second gen itouch.
anyway, the problem seems to be fixed. I'm watching last week's diggnation on it right now, and I didn't even have to make any changes. and just to make sure it's not because it's older or anything I tried today's TRS, which also worked fine.
thanks for your help!

When we switched encoding servers, several episodes of the large MP4 were encoded to too-high settings for older iDevice compatibility. Once we are 100% certain that our updated settings are optimal everywhere, we will re-encode the affected episodes from the last couple weeks so everything plays consistently. We're very close to being ready for that step.

Registered an account on here just for this.
Unlike bs0l, the iPhone app hasn't been fixed at all for me, using it on an iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1.
I am experiencing similar issues described here: http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38843So it started a few months ago, every now and then the video would freeze while the audio continues.
(...)
In the most recent Diggnation (Wine, Weed, Superconductors, and Supercharged Immunity) a bit after the 8 minute mark the video was black, for the rest of the episode.I've been streaming episodes from the iPhone app on Wi-Fi or 3G since the app was first released and it's always been working fine, never downloaded or streamed through iTunes.
I have been experiencing the issues described above since April.
Without fail, the videos will go to a black screen at the same spot while the audio keeps going. Nothing makes the video resume. On the problematic videos, if I scrub past the black screen point, I can skip to a watchable part until I hit another black screen.
Are the re-encoded videos online right now or am I SOL because I am using an older device?
There are literally no preferences or settings in the Revision3 iPhone app so it's not like I'm doing it wrong on my end.

For 6 weeks now I have been unable to watch, stream or download any Rev 3 show. I'm using an ipad 2. The Rev 3 app streams for about 10 seconds and then the video fails, but the audio continues. I'm unable to download any show via either itunes or Downcast. All fail with a notice that the podcast can't be played on this ipad. I've tried all five flavors of Tekzilla (QT lg/sm, MP4 lg/sm/HD).
It's most curious that Rev 3 never posts any answer to these problems. Nor do they seem capable of fixing them.
How many ad viewing customers do you miss everyday becuse of this failure?
I really only keep trying because of Tekzilla, but I'm approaching my BS limit.
6 weeks? Really?

I'm using a new iPhone 4. As soon as the app is opened it closes.

This is broken again for me as well.
As soon as I click "Watch Video" on any video, it closes the video down immediately before playback can start. This just started happening in the last couple of days.

We have confirmed a problem between our CDN's streaming and our iPhone app which was introduced yesterday; it will be fixed today! Shouldn't even require an app update, it should just start working again later today.

In case you didn't try again yet, this has been confirmed as fixed for a couple hours now :)
I was just gonna say the app is broken again for me (it was for a week or so when I tried it) and then I read the update, tried it again, and it's fixed.
Thanks for your help and keeping us informed!

:) even though the changes on the front-end may seem small, we've been doing a LOT of work on the encoding side of things to better support Apple live video streaming. Glad it's working well for you now.
