So, I have been using the small mp4/phone RSS feeds on my PSP for years now, and all of a sudden last week for several shows the file downloads, but it corrupted when it comes time for playback.
On the psp, this usually means some sort of codec, frame rate, or other incompatibility. Does anyone else know what the change was that lead to the corruption issue.
The shows I have had the issue with were tekzilla and scientific tuesdays (that is 2 of the 2 I tried out last week). I expect this to be an issue with every file from now on.
Thanks for the help,

EDIT: Watching on the PC now, some serious audio syncing issues. Not sure when they started (I was typing some homework) but around 2/3 of the way through it was nearly 5 seconds behind or ahead.

This is the first problem we've heard of our new encoding system causing issues with the small MP4. I'll PM you links to a couple alternate test files tomorrow, please let me know which plays best on your PSP. Thanks.
Also: were the problems you saw on your PC also with the small file, or were you watching a larger version on there which also had problems? Please also give some basic hardware and software specs on your computer that had playback problems.

Sounds good,
The PC where I had the audio sync issues (posted in the tekzilla section and someone also reported an issue) was with the HD version playing through firefox 4.
PC playback was on:
Gigabyte MA790GX-UD3H AM3 motherboard
AMD 965 Rev. C3 @ 3.6 GHz
4x2GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1333 7-7-7-19
Onboard Sound
Logitech X-540 5.1 Speakers

Can you please try out this test file on your PSP?
http://videos.revision3.com/revision3/web/unboxingporn/0025/unboxingporn--0025--mortalkombat--small.2ref.h264.mp4
For reference, here is the current/old version of the same episode (so you can verify that it still has playback problems):

The problems with the HD file have already been fixed as well, that was a different issue than the small/large reference frame bump which the above test will hopefully fix. Thanks for your help!

Old file works, not the new one.
Here are 2 of the files i could not playback:
http://videos.revision3.com/revision3/web/scientifictuesdays/0025/scientifictuesdays--0025--deathspheres--small.h264.mp4
http://videos.revision3.com/revision3/web/tekzilla/0210/tekzilla--0210--lifehacker--small.h264.mp4
I tried the lastest episodes of those shows, for scientific tuesdays the new one plays fine, and for tekzilla it also works.
Anything change between those releases and the ones just released?

I was able to source a PSP for testing and have fixed this problem locally. We have quite a few episodes to re-encode, but everything going forward will be compatible again. Sorry for the inconvenience!

No worries, thanks for working on it with me. When you figure out the issue, please share what was wrong.

The issue should be completely resolved with any episode you re-download. The problem was with an error in our encoding process causing the small and large MP4 to have too high of an H264 Profile setting. The small is back to baseline and the large is back to main, and they work perfectly again. Give it a try!
