It is the same every show they find a reason to bicker for 10 min about Microsoft Vs Apple. They have made it clear keven loves Apple and if Microsoft came out with a empty cardboard box with the microsoft logo on top Alex would say,"Oh my god i love it. It does everything holds cds, i can put paper in it, or my favorite i put it on my desk and just look at it all day long." We get it already PLEASE move on. The time they take for for their MS vs Apple fights you could add 1 or 2 story that were actually interesting. Just for a few weeks no Microsoft Vs Apple please!

Drunken, senseless arguements is what makes this show great. News is just filler :)

1. Microsoft have already released a cardboard box, you get them free with most Microsoft products you buy.

2. Kevin doesn't literally love apple, he has stated he's an apple fan, but that's not the same thing.

3. I give you this though - "It does everything holds cds, i can put paper in it, or my favorite i put it on my desk and just look at it all day long." Although most boxes can do that, not just Microsoft ones.

4. Alex had an iPod for quite a while and said he liked it even though he has a Zune now.

Finally, dude are you serious? the Microsoft vs. Apple is one of the trademarks of the show, asking them to stop this argument would be the same as asking them not to try different beers.

That should have been you're first clue...

no way in hell they should stop....that is a big part of what makes diggnation so funny and entertaining..rather than the lame apple ads we have the real deal with Alex and Kevin.:D

Come on... It's good banter. It isn't like they argue every single show...

Yes the banter is fine but its always apple vs ms apple vs ms its jsut getting old find something new to fight about

dremmy
02-16-2007, 07:43 PM
Well, since your so certain that it's tiring, what would you suggest they start arguing about?

It's not like the always fight about MS/Mac either, just those have been two of the major stories out (Vista/iPhone). Plus, the non-scripting of the show is what makes it great. They take off on different tangents a lot of the times that ends up with them (as well as us) doubled over with laughter.

Asking Kevin and Alex not to argue Apple vs. Microsoft would be like asking them not to swear during Diggnation. Impossible.

I think they should keep Diggnation as it is. Spontaneous, full of swearing and at least one MS vs. Apple debate per episode.

It really doesn't bother me when Alex and Kevin fight (it's hardly even a fight, more like two points of view being stated in a drunk way) about Apple VS MS. What bothers me is when kids fight about it online, because they really do fight about it like it's the deciding factor in their lives or something. Seriously, have you ever read some YouTube comments on any Apple related video?

I like it when Kevin and Alex give shit to each other. It's much more interesting. It's not like they're out there for inspired tech commentary. It's pure entertainment. The Mac Vs. PC stuff is hilarious.

I don't know why people argue about microsoft's and apple's OS. They are basically the same. They only look different.

Actually Vista and OS X have a lot of similar features, they both have a spotlight like program, Chess, widgets, etc.

Yes, they have a lot of the same applications, but that's not what makes the OS good or bad. Vista is still built on the crappy windows core (where's the rewrite we were promised?) and OS X on UNIX.

where's the rewrite we were promised?... and you are a software engineer with enough knowledge (and access to the Vista and XP source code) to know that there was no rewrite? Vista might have shipped without the new file system, but under the hood, it was a massive rewrite - and not just for the DRM the MS haters rant about.

TokenUser is right. There was a major write, that's one of the reasons it got pushed to beginning of '07 release. And trust me, looks mean nothing. If your a computer programmer you would know that there are many many many ways to do the same calculations (example is solving equation e^x for x), let alone a gui design.

Exactly, Vista just feels more fluid then XP did. Those Hard drive page thrashings are pretty much gone now. So no more seek thrashing when opening up non-taxing things like the Control Panel, and the properties dialog box.

Super-fetch makes use of 100% of your ram capacity with pre-loaded programs that you use daily. The sound stack has been completely overhauled, to the point where Creative and other sound card companies have to go back to square one. DX10 has also been completely overhauled, that's why DX10 games aren't directly compatible with DX9. The networking stack has also been completely re-written.

Even though UAC can be annoying, it's one extra layer that warns you before accidentally compromising your system (I've heard UAC activates when just transferring files from disk to disk, but I have Vista Business installed, and UAC is only activated when system critical changes are made, like installing an app, opening an unknown .exe, driver installation, etc). Even though UAC came straight from Unix and Linux, hell I don't care if it was copied, it's still a feature that will help at least a little bit.

People tend to just look at the OSX like facade and immediately denounce Vista as a minor face lift, but it really was a major overhaul. Whether that warranted the long dev period, I don't know. I personally think it took too long, even though it helped stave off spending money on another OS, heh. But it's still a rather refreshing experience using Vista over XP.

Now, will I dump XP, no. I would be insane to do so. I just tri-booted Vista on my current XP/Ubuntu machine. But it's still nice to use. It's no OSX, but at least Microsoft tried this time, and it shows, even though they didn't quite get there yet (to OSX/Linux).

The one thing that really annoys me about the UAC is that I can't mark a "unknown" or "unverified as safe" as safe. So every time I run Trillian I have to do the whole allow thing. I'm not sure about the copying from disk to disk, I've done it numerous times without the UAC popping up.

I'm doing a Vista/XP dual boot right now. I'm ready to ditch XP completely, but the video drivers for Vista suck right now, so no gaming for me until Nvidia can finally catch up.

One has open hardware, one has closed. For some people open is good, for some closed is good. All depends on what you need / want to do.

not to mention numerous backend and frontend things. I hate it when people say OSX and Vista are the same. It's like saying an electric guitar and a bass guitar are the same, yea they look similar, but they are completely different.

Come on... It's good banter.

Not really. If anything, the fanboy tête-à-tête has been wearing extremely thin over the past three episodes. Alex has been particularly obnoxious (rather than his typical just-slightly-overbearing), while Kevin has come off as completely and utterly clueless in what can barely be called a debate.

I love the interaction between the two on genuinely interesting topics, but I just skip ahead at this point if the insipid fanboy splooge of Mac vs. PC or 360 vs. PS3 comes up. Unlistenable garbage.
