Just started it via Netflix Streaming HD . . . on episode 7 of season 1 . . . so far just about every character is an empty cardboard cutout and pretty annoying, except for the smart ass lead guy, but even he is bland a times. Do they get any better? The woman in command is the weakest character by far because all she does is say "No" to the away team when they get back only to say "Fine, do it" in the very next sentence - it's laughable.
I was surprised to see it has almost 5 stars so I'm guessing it gets better. Am I right?
Just lookin for some spoiler-free insight. Thanks!

So did anyone in here watch the show? Is it worth sticking with it?

Had to register just to say, you need to stick with it. If you've seen the original SG1, you know that you have to give it a bit. It gets SO much better as the seasons progress. Give it time, it's absolutely gold later on.

Itll get going, stargate always starts slow it seems. By the time 5 rolls around i think you will be happy for the ride.

To add, if you go on to SGU, same thing, the start is slow, but the end and the ramp up tot he end was totally worth it all. That one Zen episode where they contemplate if the planet was left for them by someone, that peak into what the SGU plot can open too, is worth season 1 alone. but season 2 and the end where awesome.
SGU gets a bad rap, people were pissed cause Atlantis got canned, just as it was getting good. SGU suffered wrath of that choice i think, from the fans. In the end suffering the exact same fate, just as it was getting VERY good... canned.

Yeah stick with it. The characters flesh out and eventually Ronan comes along and the show gets really good. Also the cameos of sg-1 stars and other sci-fi shows is pretty cool

Yeah, the last couple episodes of season 1 and the start of season 2 hooked me for the long run . . . McKay is really hard to get used to - the character is so f#$%ing arrogant it crosses the line into annoying/hard to watch (the actor is fine, it's the character that almost ruins it)

I'm the exact opposite. The only reason I kept watching past the middle of the second season was McKay. Everything else about the show got very predictable, formulaic and kind of boring to me (especially after the wrote off the Athosians), but he was always hilarious.

He actually does grow on ya (I'm towards end of season 3) . . . his rambling techno babble and incredible ego has become "normal" for the most part.
I do love all the quotes and references they make about other geeky stuff like WoW, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc . . . like when they came across someone stored in a computer and when he requested the others be released, McKay said "the computer locked up, you shoulda used a Mac." Those subtle little comments are fun.
Well shit, of course (spoiler) . . .
. . . of course they get rid of my 2nd fav character - damn it!
(but hey, I really dig the replacement - just wish she was an addition and not a replacement)

When I first saw an episode way back when I thought it looked cheesy and kinda lame. I kinda felt the same when i started watching it on Netflix. Holy shit was I wrong. Fantastic show. I have only 5 episodes left sadly, and I will miss it. It's fun, a great cast of characters, exploration, adventure, space battles, etc . . . and snippets and nods towards the geek world. Example - Jewel Staite's character had to wear a nice dress and while commenting on "being fancy," commented on the strawberries - that is awesome. And that nod toward Kaylee was in an epside NG Tyson was in.
I just wanted to encourage anyone who had the same experience thinking the show is lame. It's really fun and worth the time. Thanks for letting me know to stick with the show.

Finished it - just curious if there is an official continuation or better ending of the Atlantis story out there?

There was suppose to be a movie like they did for Stargate Sg-1 but apparently it got canned after SG-U started up. And then that ultimately failed too so Stargate is pretty much done for at this point.
