Hey, I've got a first generation Nano, with a broken screen, i could probably pay the money, get a new screen and hopefully be able to do it myself. But I've already had a bunch of bad experiences with my nano, (constantly crashing). What i was wondering if anyone knows a way to reformat it so it'll just work like a shuffle, so it would still play music, but not even bother turning on the screen which i hope would also save battery life. I've looked and haven't found anything, and really if I could get something like that I'm hoping it'll last a bit longer so i can replace it with a better product.

I really don't think you can do that...you might be able to but I really doubt it.

Why not just get a new one instead of paying to repair the screen? Or, if you want it to work like a Shuffle, then get a Shuffle and don't bother with the Nani, which, as you said, is already problematic.

I just mainly wanted to get it to work for playing music, I really don't want to spend that much for a new screen when I can get a 4gb SD card for my Palm for cheaper than the screen, and considering I already have a 1gb and a 2gb for my video files for my palm, it won't be hard to keep track of.
