View Full Version : Movies that Disappoint

Every once and while I will get excited to see a movie and it just leaves me flat. Sometimes they just don't suit my tastes, or I don't get why it should funny, or there was too much hype or they are just bad movies.

I am not much for "Top XX" lists. But I was just wondering if you have seen movies that disappointed you. Whether they didn't meet your expectations or whether they just were not that good.

I don't want this to turn into a hate fest. I am not looking for the worst movies ever.

Two that jump into my mind are Anchorman and Eyes Wide Shut. They are very different movies, I know. I had heard from so many people that Anchorman was so funny and then I saw it. Yeah, some funny scenes, but ...

And I think we all know the issues with Eyes Wide Shut. I so wanted that to be good. I loved Kubrick and I was so hoping for a good flick.

Totally agree. All of them that I have seen fall into this category. I don't hate any of them. But they all could have been so much better.

Though, I am guessing that you are a total MNight hater.

You see, I've found it a lot safer to go into a film not expecting anything. That's why I liked Pirates 2 and Clerks 2.

But Date Movie, I've talked about how much I hate it before, but damn....that movie blew.

I agree the Lady in the water SUCKED ASS! I mean I actually followed the story line all the way up to the boy reading the cereal boxes and then I literally stold up, looked around at the audience and said "What the FuK!" For real

The Matrix Revolutions. I wasn't as dissapointed as many were, but it still wasn't as good as it should have been. I would have had more Neo fights (more epic), wouldn't have killed off Trinity (would have had Morpheus sacrifice himself to see his dream of Neo ending the war come to fruition), and wouldn't have necessarily ended it the way they did. I'm not saying Neo should have lived (he shouldn't), but the way they handled it was...dissapointing.

Well I can tolerate a movie just simply being bad. It's the movies that dissapoint me are what riles up hatred within me.

Anyway movies that stick out in my mind that have really dissapointed me were X3 and the Matrix Sequals, although I didn't care for the first one til I watched it again.

That's all I can think of right now.

Agreed with x3. I wanted to kill every single person that worked on that movie. I walked in with alot of hope and expectations and I walked out pissed and even a little upset. Crash also really dissapointed me. I don't know if its because its not my kind of movie but I thought it was horrible.

Seriously man, how long have you been waiting to say that? Everywhere I turn there's more people saying it's brilliant and the best movie they've seen all year blah blah blah. That movie is not only manipulative for manipulation's sake but it's not even the deep film that people say it is.

Maybe if they showed this movie to people outside the U.S. it might paint a surprising picture of America, but if you live here, characters commenting that "Mexicans" park their cars on their lawns or that Asians can't drive is the most benign, banal, trite, trash in the world. As Keith Olbermann might say: "HACK Indeeeed".

Tomb Raider 2 - I was in Santorini when they were filming. I was so blown away by Santorini that I thought they would really do it some justice and show it.
The movie sucked, and more to the point they showed Santorini for about 10 seconds tops. The rest that was set in Santorini could of been filmed in a swimming pool.

I must be retarded because I liked X3, it was by no means the best X Men movie but still a good movie. Sure there were things I would have preferred to see changed but I can say that about damn near anything, but I guess I look for the good in these movies because I liked Daredevil. And who ever starts a Daredevil discussion here should die a slow painful death, we have had the discussion a million times and no ones opinion are going to be changed by it. That was just a pre-emptive strike to halt any Daredevil discussion that may have started after my reply.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I was very bored and dissapointed with Kill Bill vol. 2. Don't get me wrong, there was some cool stuff mixed in there, but that whole scene with Bill and Uma talking at the end put me to sleep. Quentin should have just stuck with one movie and cut out all the boring fluff from the two.

I agree except that I think the movies should have remained intact with a bridge in between. It'd be a 4 hour movie but come on, what else were you doing that day anyway? That's right, you were wanking.

you're damn skippy on that one. Visually it was amazing, but even the old WW1 movies made in the 30s had better writing and plots. Once again it needed a brutal editor that could cut out the stupid crap. It couldn't figure out what kind of movie it was so it didn't quite make it anywhere. Also it was extremely confusing trying to figure out what was who... and what was with all the Fokker Wolfs being painted red... they were painted dark Green for the most part except for the flying circus who painted their planes all sorts of crazy colours.

The most disapointing movie in history was "Highlander 2: The Quickening", It take a special talent to get Sean Connery to do a sequel and then make a movie so bad that it ruins the preceding movie as well. Notice how they openly ignore that movie in the rest of the "Highlander" franchise.

They are doing this. It was on digg awhile ago but its going to be both movies edited together, I'm guessing with extra scenes, with an intermission in between. I can't wait. I loved both parts of kill bill and would love to see how Tarantino ties them together.

Those aren't MTA commuter rail trains from the LIRR. They're not even NY subway train cars. I suspect they shot those scenes in Chicago (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316654/locations).

Like I can explain why I liked one and not the other. Spiderman 2 pissed me off at parts. Like the chemistry between Peter and Mary Jane. It just wasn't there like it was in the first movie. X3, I saw it in a two level movie theater, sold out on premiere night. I guarantee you if I watched it now I'd be equally as pissed. But right now, I'm sticking to my guns.

Riding those trains everyday to work make you notice things... In any case, they probably just used Chicago for the exterior reference shots for the CGI. I bet a lot of those shots were produced in post. The stuff inside the train was obviously a sound stage.

I'm going to go a little further back and say that the movie that I hated most, simply because I loved the first four so much, is Rocky V. Almost terrible enough to ruin the first four.

Generally I try to watch each movie I see as not connected to anything. So Lord of the Rings I watched to appreciate for their own merit rather than to seek errors or changes from the books, Batman Returns I watched without the others in mind, which were a different story anyway, etc.

But a film I did see with high hopes and ended up walking out on in a foreign film called Ma Mere (http://imdb.com/title/tt0381392/). Louis Garrel is a very talented actor, but not even his talent could make me overlook him having graphic sex with his mother. At the point where he's chasing the ambulance to the song "So Happy Together" after his mother stabs herself during the act, I decided to leave.

I just felt like i was never involved in the story (something the books do so well). Maybe it was because I already knew the story, but then so have most people that go see this. It was like a cliff notes for the book or something.
