So guys....Some dude PM'd me today wanting to buy my signature. He wanted to pay $5 a month for me to put his site in my link. So in the words of Howie Mandel....

"Deal or No Deal?"

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good deal but it is probably to good to be true and might get ya banned.

Banned? Whatch you smokin? Why would I get banned for putting a link in my signature?

Not your site and you would be making money off of it. Could be considered spam.

Well if it's a link to porn then it's a no go obviously, but you just kind of blew it by announcing it to everyone Klitzy :p

It is simple PM the admins ask if they say it is ok, if so go for it.

im interested to see the result of this.. my friend would joke, having 'for sale' in his AIM profile box... selling for like $2.50 a month, so according to standards (of 1 ), you are rolling in the $$$ fo $5.00.

in all seriousness, every now and then i do click on ppls sig links, and i actually signed up for a computer tech forum today because of it... advertising works i guess

I sold my "Avvy" on a site for $20 for 2-months and the guy wanted to maybe do more but never got back to me...

I'd say "Deal" and then get the Paypal money, if he doesn't pay up in a few days delete the sig... :D

Kevin, I'll kick your ass if you start spamming us for $5 a month. It's total spam.

magunwarrior
02-19-2007, 07:48 AM
Then I'll stealthily take the $5 out of Kiltzy's pocket whilst Aria beats him up.

Signatures

Remember that the staff may remove oversized or vulgar signatures as well as avatars at any point in time. We may, or may not tell you to edit your signature or avatar; it could be removed without warning.

Spam

Spam is NOT tolerated on this board. Spam is categorized by different factors as stated below.

1. Products
1a. Any post containing references (words/links/images/etc.) to a product or company that doesn't offer an overall benefit to the Revision3 community.

Example for 1a.
Spam: "Buy v1agra from companysite.com"
Not Spam: "I need a new printer what is everybody’s opinions?" "Company A offers etc, but compared to Company B then that printer doesn't stand up."
Not Spam: "Company A offers *Product Name* for free this week."

2. Other Websites
2a. You may NOT advertise another competitor's website/forum/product/etc.
2b. You may plug or link to another website only if it doesn't break other rules.
2c. Do not spam your personal web sites or forums. You may link to them in your signature, but please limit them to there.

I am not sure what they want you to advertise.

We are pretty leniant on what goes into your sigs, provided they are limited to about 4 lines (which many of you have gone over - why 4 lines? because many of your sigs end up longer than your posts). Linking to YOUR website or digg/myspace/newsvine/etc profile is OK as well.

Linking to referral websites and freeiphonemacbookzunegpsrazr websites is not. That is considered spam.

If they want you to advertise a commerical website or competing website, that would also be considered spam.

Want to PM me with details? It might be acceptable (but at this point I am guessing it wont be).

I wonder if they contacted Aria. She has way more posts than Klitzy. In any case, It's interesting tactic. Putting a link in Klitzy sig automatically creates thousands of potential links to that website from this one. Neat idea...

I suggest amending the rules of conduct to explicitly prohibit paid links.

Marketing people never cease to amaze.

Wow - that's crazy, but makes sense at the same time. Tactics have to change now that telemarketing and email SPAM are becoming completely ineffective. Spambots are banned as quickly as one post, so why not have a respected member do the spamming for you?

Only takes a little research to find out who is a good candidate and a PM. Smart, actually.

Still, if you do this you deserve a kick in the junk. :D

See I was right could be considered spam. :D Any ways didn't Klitzy try something like this before with a referral site to see how long it would take before the mods told him to change his sig.

masherscf

I don't know if it's conventional marketing. I think it's Google promotion tactics.

What about a donation link so others could help buy you a new pc/mac and in turn be able to surf revision3 site better and faster? :D

What about a donation link so others could help buy you a new pc/mac and in turn be able to surf revision3 site better and faster? :DBuild yourself a website that people will want to come back and visit, place the link in your sig line, and then load the site with Adsense ads. You'll probably earn more that way than getting tightwad geeks to donate.

Interesting....Because in the message they said they were "following my posts" and thought I would attract people to their site because of my "nature" of posts. How awesome is that. Hahahaha.

Is $5 a month for a link in a sig on this site really worth it?

If it was 5 bucks a click it would be but a month not worth it.

Listen, Honey, that sounds like a generic letter you got, and there is no guarantee of payment. You'd post the link for a month, then they wouldn't pay you.

Maybe...But in the end...Its just a link in a signature. Not hours and hours of work for me.
