Patrick read from MacKenzie's thorough treatise on malware removal. Just one thing I'd add. A lot is said about disappearing icons and having to reinstall to get some back. I had an infection do this and after researching on Google, found an app called "unhide". You can find it by goggling it of course. It worked like a charm - all icons returned after running this app.

Know what's weird? "malware" is not in Firefox's word correction dictionary.
