Conor has given me the seal of approval for this thread, so let's have some fun :D!
This thread is not about the pick of the week, or a larger review of all the comics this week, I will leave that to the master himself Fred :) .
No, instead this thread is about what was your favorite book from each of the four companies or independent branches. The four main companies are: DC, Marvel, Image or Dark Horse.
I really truly want to know what you thought of these books this week compared to each other, what indy book deed you read that you don't think got appreciated this week? What Marvel book was your favorite this week compared to your favorite DC book this week? Or what was the Dark Horse book that kicket the rest out the window?
Enjoy and discuss :D .

My favorite book from Marvel this week was (with no surprise) Civil War issue seven.
Not just because it was Marvel's big event that ended, no I thought it was good compared to the rest of my Marvel comic's because this is a New Age book. Compared to some of the other books out there is deftly has a unique and modern feel to it that is pointing to quite a New Age for comics.
My favorite book from DC this week was The Brave and the Bold issue one.
In contrast with my Marvel favorite book this week this was a throwback to some old school Silver age goodness. The characterization of Batman and Green Lantern was awesome, I remember reading Silver age books like this were no matter how bad the story was it was always really cool to see superheroes from completely different books teen up and added idea of a over caring story to it all was great.
Didn't read any image or dark horse this week or any indys either, I love the two books from DC and Marvel because they touched both parts of my love for comic books in different ways which is what I'm looking for from each company.

My fav DC book was Teen Titans 43- I like the whole seperate and conquer ideal. Also the ending did leave you wanting more, it even introduced a new tower.
I also chose Civil War 7- I know it was a lackluster ending but it also left alot to move on from. I mean sending heros to each state to protect it. Still having ppl who don't believe in the law. The book brought a realness to marvel where it had been pulled away. I mean changing reality with a whim, outer space aliens, all thats great. But Marvel showed that a couple of powerless politicians took down Earths Mightiest Heroes. Also it left me thinking that Tony Stark has ulterior motives. It made me say to myself " Tony Stark is back at his old ways of manipulation". I can't wait to checkout CW:Frontline 11(because I dropped that book after 3 because it started to suck), but i wanna see what his response is when he is confronted with his actions and the truth behind the war is revealed.

Marvel:
Punisher War Journal #4
What a great suprise! If you love stories from the villian's perspective, this is for you. Usually you don't expect comedy from a punisher book, but this was full of great humor. I laughed out loud often while reading this. This was by far my pick of the week.
Runner-up . . .
Civil War #7
I really enjoyed this. By no means was it a let down. A great close to a great story.
DC:
Brave & Bold #1
Good kick off of this relaunch. Good action and great story telling with the two heroes. Loved the scene with Wayne & Jordan at the casino!
As for Darkhorse and Image, I need to find some good titles as the only one I'm reading is Darkhorse's Star Wars: Dark Times which is not only my first Darkhorse title I've ever tried, but I'm really enjoying too (although it didn't come out this week).

There are some good Dark Horse books out there. If you like Star Wars is no better Star Wars book out there at the moment than Star Wars legacy, it's absolutely fantastic! Apart from issue four and eight the mean storyline is great. Whenever I pick up this book I feel like a kid again watching the first films all over again. All the old favorite characters are dead but there descendents are still around, just taking the best elements that make Star Wars great without any pressure from the past.
The Empire has become the Republic (don't ask me how?) and it has a princess that needs rescuing, the new order of Jedi Knights that Luke Skywalker created a hundred years before Legacy has been all but destroyed by the new Sith and there's a lot of them! The descendent of Luke Skywalker refused to become a Jedi so becomes a bounty hunter that somehow ends up rescuing for a price the Empire Princess. Feels very much like New Hope to me. I really can't recommend it enough.
Also a good book to pick up is The Goon. If you're looking for something new and different incredibly original it's got all. Plus it's got one of the most controversial issues in history coming out soon http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=14-754 the first couple of trades wouldn't hurt either.
And of course there's Hellboy. All I can say about Hellboy is its he reason I read comic books. As much Conor loves Batman I love Hellboy here is some went comics of it so you can right into it, http://www.darkhorse.com/zones/hellboy/downloads.php if you go down to the bottom you will see ecomics click on any one they're awesome:D !

DC: Ion. I liked the big reveal as to who was pulling the strings, but in a way it was a letdown because it looks like there's someone bigger that could be pulling the strings. Then when the issue ended, it made me sad, because the series is almost over. I just hope maybe they'll make some sort of ongoing, but maybe he'll play a big part in the Countdown series.
Marvel: CW 7. Although it was close, because Iron Fist was also really good.

Marvel:
Deadpool - Cable: Well for the fact that it was minus Cable and a just a funny story. He was also only 3 inches tall
I don't read any DC and my LCS forgot to order 30 Days of Night: Spreading ...#3
You guys are diversifying me and have opened my eyes to the idea that some of the stuff I read is crap and I'm not the only that feels that way and should drop them.
I'm going to look into Fell this weekend when I take in some of the stuff I've scraped out of my collection.

Fell, Casanova, The Walking Dead, and Invincible aren't only the best Image has to offer, but also grace what would probably be my Top 15 or thereabouts, list of what I buy right now.
I don't buy as much Dark Horse, but the Goon is amazing, any Hellboy or BPRD series are always top notch when they come out, there's that newfangled Buffy series coming too, and I hear nothing but praise for Rex Mundi.
So there you go. Cheers...

Hey, great to see the thread by the new kids on the block. I don't know if this counts, but I have some definite favorites that stand out:
"Identity Crisis" -- I am sure many here have already read this, but for someone coming back into comics after many years away, from being mostly a Marvel person and not too familiar with current DC continutiy, this was the one. Not only was it well written and beautifully drawn, have a great story and begin a major shake up of the DCU. What I felt was deeply moved by a story with great impact, by a writer who DID NOT assume I knew who all these people were and relationship to each other -- it just laid things out starkly and simply, written as much for a DC person fully caught up, but also written for someone who maybe needs lots of catching up but does not want to read a giant "the universe thus far in the past 10 years page." It just conveyed it through a simple, well laid out story. Who is the new Green Lantern? What is with Wally being the new Flash? Green Arrow's kids? And most importantly, who is this new Tim Drake/Robin kid? I had no idea, but WOW do I now get it, completely.
In his latest reviews, Fred mentions "shifting narrative" -- shifting the narrative (or which character is narrating) between a few or most of the characters in a book, and how many attempt it, and many don't get it right. This book is a Gold Standard for how to do Shifting Narrative right.
If you are a Marvel person, and the DCU over the past few years and all its changes seem daunting, this is the book to start with. In this one book, you will go from Silver Age to NOW, and get it completely. Wonderful, although expect to feel a little "raw" -- this is not a "feel good" book, but rather a really compelling human driven story that hits you right in the heart. The Batman and Robin stuff especially is really something incredible. I'm ready now to take in as much Tim Drake as I can, feel like I saw the complex Batman as he really is, whereas before I was just like "Tim Drake? Tim Drake? Who is this Tim Drake kid?"
And not so old?
Books of Doom by Brubaker and Raimondi -- in just one little book, all about Doctor Doom, completely captured -- who he is, his history, the important stuff there and brilliantly updated and made more sophisticated yet true to the original character, and the dumb corny stuff that has been stuck in back issues brushed aside like an iron clad hand.
Wonderful stuff and no doubt will be timeless reading years from now.

TOTALLY. Bombed me right to the depths of the soul. I felt so...raw. Tore me up inside, and that's really a compliment to the book, because I was totally new to all the DCU stuff...not much of a sense of what was going on lately with DCU, but BOY did I get caught up (with a dagger to the heart). Wow. Great book.
Also: X-Factor#14 and #15 with Peter David's return to the book. I quite liked it, but Raimondi is my type of artist, good stuff. I hear all the moaning and groaning of people who buy CW, but X-Factor is a book that includes consequences of CW, but still manages to keep itself apart, and just tell good "human" stories (of the mutants) in a humorous, enaging way, just like what made the X-Men great in its old hey day. Not for those who want giant spectaculars (and then get disappointed) but just a nice little book in a quieter but entertaining corner of the Marvel U.
