sometimes i think, "whats more important a hot chick who's a b!tch, or a decent chick thats pretty cool" then i realize if im drunk i'll take the hot chick for a night but if I just wanna relax and watch a movie, ill still take the hot chick.

I'm starting this thread because it worked well on the last forum that I was on. This is basically a thread for people to post crap that doesn't deserve an entire thread, but people just want to put out there on something a little more permanent than the IRC channel. This shouldn't be a place to pump up your post stats though, just made it to keep the random crap a little more tiddy given the fact that we'll likely see more traffic here now.

I wonder if it has something to do with people's timezones.
Yeah, it's making me f-ucking mental, I have no idea what people are saying to each other anymore... I feel like I just walked in halfway through watching Memento and nothing makes sense.

By the way satori, did you check out Nuit Blanche? I heard it was awesome.

Damn, I was going start this thread.

I should be in bed asleep but...

I hate Pokemon but it's introduced a whole generation to RPGs and anime. It's a great annoying gateway drug...like weed.

I can't think of a huge commerically success action movie since The Matrix that wasn't a sequel, remake, based on a novel, based on a comic, or related to some other IP. It's depressing.

I was at Blockbuster the other day and they had a poster on the wall behind the counter for Beowulf and Grendel(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402057/). I was waiting in line and a fellow customer at the counter looked at it and said, "What's that? Oh, it looks like a knock-off of Lord of the Rings." It was at once sad and funny.

I get why it was funny and sad, but really I think the film studio just used costumes (and actors) from Alexander for that film. Plus, it was awful.

it's influences pull from all over, but the story itself is basically from a discussion uma thurman and quention tarantino had in a bar and wrote the basic framework of on a cocktail napkin (or something to that effect).

right-right... yes I was reading about that, it looked like a great idea. I have a son who's turning 3 in a couple of weeks and it's not so easy to get out for that all night stuff. Totally something I would of done in my pre-parent days though.

I had two chinchillas named Pikachu and Bella. The Pika character is adorable, but it was freaky that the guy I was with at the time was so addicted to Pokémon that there were Pokémon posters all over our walls, stuffed Pokémon toys on the bed, I'm surprised he didn't have Pokémon underwear.

I am definitely the son my dad never had. By this, I mean my ex-brother was afraid to get greasy with cars and panicked at the slighted speck of dirt while I'd be out there tearing an engine apart, or working on a Harley. Yet I'm also the girliest girl you can imagine. Instead of working on mechanical things with his son, he did with me. I rock. And do most of my own car work.

Well if we're talking strictly Death Race 2000 point system the Nun would score the highest, unless of course you're talking a really old politician who happens to be kissing a baby at that exact moment. If the nun is old.. it's no contest.

I love working from home... my only co-worker (in CA- all my other co-workers are in AZ, as well as my boss) and he leave for the day while I'm on my lunch break, so I usually stay home after lunch (we really aren't suppose to but who's going to know?)

I REALLY resent the fact that some random MOD can close down a thread we created for help if its needed, just because we can find other forums out there somewhere about tech support already... that kind of pisses me off!! I can also find other forums about comic books and movies out there somewhere on the internet, are you going to start closing those threads down too? SUCK IT!

This is ridiculous, apparantly the moderators are more important than the membership. Is there anyone on this forum that is actually not happy about our threads other than the mods? Apparantly we can not have dialogue with each other without the threads being closed... instead we're directed to have a discussion behind closed doors with the mod... so we can be handled individually. how long before this thread gets closed as well?

Considering the MOD that complained wasn't even the one assigned to this forum, I totally agree. BrianGilmore, you need to complain bitterly about his encroachment on your turf!

If they're trying to get some of this great activity out into other boards, and are closing our threads to accomplish that, they're just going to piss us off. And nobody wants a pissed-off geek.

BTW Diva, I'm pretty sure there's a delete function in here somewhere if you want to get rid of that second post. It's hard to read, because it's grey text on the Kelly green borders, but it's there. Or it was when I first got here.

I've looked through the other forums and I don't want to converse or take advice from what I've seen. On the other hand I trust what I would hear from my fellow dromes. I love how the reason tokenuser gave for posting a tech question in Geekdrome is because he wanted a speedy response and yet when satori tried to set up an organized thread for questions it got closed because it's off topic and they don't want tech questions cluttering up the forum. The double standard is astonishing.

For the sake of better organization, we'd rather you make a thread for Windows related problems in the Windows forum, Apple in Apple, etc. You're part a of a larger community and there are people who don't post in the Geekdrome forums. If I was some random internet user with a problem, I wouldn't know to come to the Geekdrome forum for tech help and for good reason. Making one thread for it all is also not the way to go because that mainly helps the one person with a problem while there may be others with the same problem who wouldn't know where to look. Have some consideration, enough that you'd allow the wealth of knowledge to be evenly distributed for the entire community. That's all we ask.

a very good point and we understand. im sure that if anyone did have a suggestion for something, they would be considerate enough to post elsewhere as well. our main point, though, is that most of us here (which is quite a lot), dont ever leave this forum because we feel comfortable and trust each other. we're very dedicated fans of this show and this forum, and this is where we feel we can ask for help as an equal.

yeah, its soo not going to happen. most of us don't post in the other forums at all and therefore we will continue not to. Plus, some of the other dromers and dromettes are blonde like me and would forget where they posted their question if they didn't post it in here... as it is I forget (sometimes) where I'm having a "geekdrome related" conversation in this forum... so, good luck getting us to break out into the unknown!

That's funny I'm in the Geekdrome forum because I like the show and I've built trust with people here and trust their suggestions. I'm NOT on the rev3 board to better the community. I'm having flash backs of high school (the larger community) and the geeks(Geekdrome Forum) stick to each other and what they know.

Shouldn't be too long, though their shipping times do rather suck. It would take me a little more than a week from dropping a game in the mailbox to getting a new one, but I'm sure that has alot to do with living in florida with the warehouse being in California. With your location, shouldn't take too long, couple days maybe.

It's largely going to depend on how close you live to the nearest distro center. I know with Netflix, just moving 30 miles south my stuff gets here two days faster. I imagine GF works nearly the same.

I have a standing agreement with several people that if they buy me any of the following, I will wear them, daily, for one year (if not longer), with the only stipulation being that they have to be nice, you know, real. Not some hokey shit:

1) Cape

4) Three Musketeers Style Hat

I even find them, and say here, buy it, and they never do.

I would think wearing a monocle for a year would seriously screw with your facial features/laugh lines. They'd get all lopsided from squinching to hold it in place.

And what, precisely, is the difference between a cape and a cloak... amount of coverage? Mentally I lump them into the same category.

i know what you mean. Before i quit my job to go back to school I was at a software engineering job. The software I was working on was reeaaaly tedious because every time i fixed the smallest bug, id have to stop the server, compile, restart the server, log in, etc. - in all, only a 3-4 min process. BUT, when you do that over and over and over and over again, it adds up. the old forums were probably the only thing that kept me sane. They were so slow, i didn;t post a lot, but it was fun reading/lurking. I also went through all of the pre-kevin smith geekdromes in a couple days. I want to go out to dinner. No, I want to be taken out to dinner and a movie by a man and that's it. No relationship, dinner and a movie.

I think that's a reasonable thought so who lives close enough to Detroit to oblige me?

Gladly. My only stipulations are that the "dinner" is the IHOP, and the movie is playing at that rundown theater downtown. You know, the one where all the guys walking in are wearing trenchcoats?

Oh wait, Detroit. Damn, not quite.

So, I go for my first night out as a single dude, well quasi single dude, I just go out for a quiet dinner with my two friends friends Evie and Megyn at this place called "The Rainbow" which is a "metal" bar. We have some great food, then we go out to the bar. I don't drink, so I just do what i always do: be fun/cool etc., without needing the beer.

So then we meet this awesome guy who actually knew Sam Kinison and the crew and told us stories that happened in that same bar and next door at the Roxy. This other guy who looks like an ugly version of Big from Sex and the City (ex gf loved it...it's ok....)came up and started hitting on my two friends.

Long story short, hilarity insued when my friend Evie grabbed a random british guy and started making out with him. Megyn then grabs one and does the same. They trade off on the same group for 4-6 guys each. Prime time to get some action myself right? Wrong. This British girl approaches me and goes "hey, where ah you frahm?" showing me not only her herrendous teeth, but all the black shit that inhabits them. I quickly turn to my phone to see it's past 2am and there's a whole group of British people aching for "a pahtee", so they get cabs and say they'll wait for us, we go get my car and...THEY'RE GONE.

So we're stuck with this british guy who doesn't know where the **** he is,so he and my friend evie start making out in the back. In between kisses he yells out this phrase said just like in Team America every 5 minutes (as we look for his place given the only thing he knows is the word "orbit" for as far as where he lives goes): America! **** Yeah! sometimes he just said "Ameeeriicuuuuh!!!".

Anyway, we found his hostel, dropped him off, turns out he was only 19 and PISS drunk.

What this made me realize? How people in other countries see us is weird. He kept asking "where's Blackalicious?! Let's go do some weed with Jay-Z". Living in L.A. you know celebrities are always around you, but you kinda take it for granted. His requests, although ridiculous, made me think about how possible that must seem to just hit up a celebrity, when you're that much closer than across an ocean. Also, Americans really are a party. **** yeah.

Hit up the break room for some hot tea (with lemon if you can manage it for the Vit C). Also hit up the first aid station for some Tylenol or Alka-seltzer Cold and Flu if they got it.

Just thank gosh it's Friday.

For my random thought of the day....

Next week my daughter's school is having a bunch of theme days for "Say No to Drugs" week. Thursday is silly hat day. I'm tempted to knit her up one in the shape of a squid, complete with tentacles...

Also hit up the first aid station for some Tylenol or Alka-seltzer Cold and Flu if they got it.Advantage of working from home - a reasonably well stocked medicine cabinet. Even have some percoset down there (weeeeeeeeeeeeeee). I picked up a tub of Haagen-Dazs Caramel Cone icecream, and some Robitussen on the way home from dropping wife off at school. Not really a good thing to do - eating icecream when you have a chest cold ... but I needed something to soothe my throat, and the Robitussen seems to be doing the job (10 minutes until I get to take another shot - I'm a tussin junkie).

The whole hot drink thing is something I don't understand. I am not a coffe/tea drinker, and only occasionally have a hot chocolate in winter, and warm 'caffeine free diet mountain dew' is just wrong. I have drunk about 1L of OJ today though - so the Vitamin C is definately being hit.
Just thank gosh it's Friday. So say we all.

I suggested it because between the steam rising from the cup and the hot liquid hitting the roof of your mouth, it helps your sinuses loosen up. Plus, liquids are always a plus.

But good, you have OJ... I'll stop "mom-ing" then. :p

I presume you don't literally mean you want some total stranger to pay your way for no reason whatsoever. If so, then I want someone to pay for my cable television, internet access and groceries. *shrug*

Well mainly it's about the male company. Heck, I go out to dinner all of the time with family and my girls, but a lady sometimes wants a guy to do those old-fashioned, pre-bra burning things like pay for dinner. But, if going dutch is an issue, that's fine too.

But I don't want to date someone per se, just a nice dinner and be gone. Kinda like a one night stand with no exchange of bodily fluids.

And I wouldn't consider dromers complete and total strangers either. I mean I'd at least know we'd have something to talk about.

What? I'm just saying, that if a person is paralzyed or something, and can't use there feet. Spending money on shoes is kind of a waste. People who work at shoes stores, and sell shoes to paralzyed people should feel bad about themself. I mean that money could be used for buying robot limbs. =x

Hey buddy, I'm socially retarded so I only buy hot clothing labels like Osh Kosh Bagosh and Keds. Does it make me a chick magnet? No, my anxiety prevents me from tapping all sorts of ass. I wanna learn to knit. Nothing more manly than making shit from scratch, I don't care if it's a pair of pink booties!Knitting was originally a very manly thing to do. Cable knit jumpers were knitted by fishermen. Each boat had a distinctive pattern, so that if a man was killed at see / washed overboard, his body could be identified from the cable pattern of the jumper he wore. How cool is that :)

(OK, the fishermen being identified by the cable is an urban myth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aran_sweater) - but its still a cool story)

diela

why? .

Probably some assinine restriction of importing vegetables into this country... which were put in place to stop insect infestations... that have no reason to be applied in this case. That's my guess.

I'd be curious to know myself, though... I've always wanted to try the stuff.

tokenuser
10-24-2006, 10:42 PM
why? .The FDA restricts the addition of folate in foods to bread and cereal products only.

Full story here (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=1&ObjectID=10407273) ...
and in typical US Government reaction ... they deny the reports (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,20641599-5005961,00.html) (sure we believe you ... backing down from threats against a major trading partner and ally ... and in an election year ...)

If you want to try vegemite, it really is an acquired taste. Personally, I can't stand the stuff, but both my sister and my wife could live on it. For some reason, it is a flavour that appeals to women more than men.

I have seen it for sale at CostPlus World Market, but if you REALLY want to try good Aussie food from there, grab couple of bottles of Bundaberg Ginger Beer ... you wont regret it.
