Just curious if Josh and I are the only ones with comic related tattoos. Any body else got one?

Every year I keep saying to myself that I’m going to get a tattoo. I’m just afraid that my tastes change so much that I’ll wake up one morning and just think to myself, “Crap. Why did I get that done?”
And I don’t like pain (ie. wuss).

Nope, I'm tattoo less. I think at this point the wife would divorce me if i got a tattoo.
What cracks me up about Josh's tattoo is that its a Green Lantern symbol and more than half the time when this title comes up in the show, he isn't reading the title. Am I the only one who finds this strange?

No. No, you're not.
I'd actually like to get more, but I'm somebody's dad and it already feels weird enough to have one. Is that a sensible, rational argument? Probably not.

I have 3 tattoos but none related to comics. At one time I considered getting the Flash wraparound tattoo on my waist, but I knew I'd regret it. I also wanted to get the original Stormwatch insignia (eyeball inside a lightning bolt), but never went through with it. I have a lighting bolt on my right lower abdomen, but it doesn't look like anything comic related.
I like lightning bolts.

The thing you find strange about his Green lantern tattoo is that he does not read Green Lantern?

Well, Josh says he doesn't read bad books, so.....
Correct me if I'm wrong Josh, but didn't you say you were gonna go back and get the last ish? If you did, waddid you think? it's gotten better since OYL....promise.
ALSO, one last thing. Having a GL tattoo and not reading GL doesn't seem odd to me. Doesn't symbol stand for 'peace, honor, respect, nobility' and all that good stuff across the (dc) universe? There ya go.

I picked up this book (http://www.amazon.com/Was-Dark-Stormy-Night-Snoopy/dp/0345442725/sr=1-3/qid=1172542798/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/105-9664821-9125247?ie=UTF8&s=books) specifically to find just the right image for the tattoo.
My uncle owns a garage, and one of his tow trucks is a Red Barron design. All three of them are Peanuts related.

I did read the last GL issue, and it was pretty good. I'll try the next one. I refuse to believe that because of my tattoo, I have to buy that book for the rest of my days. I mean, if anything, I should have higher standards right? I should expect the best.
Unfortunately, I think Darwyn Cooke ruined me for all other Hal Jordan.
And, really the tattoo is really a reminder of a certain time and era in my life. It's from when I really go back into comics, and started realizing the kinds of people I wanted to be around (it's when I really got to know both Conor and Ron, among other people), and stuff like that. Sure I liked the character and all that stuff, but it's not as literal as being a Green Lantern fan. You could swing a stick at a given comic shop and find bigger GL fans than me. I'll probably never love a character all that much, but I'll never forget the time in my life when I got that tattoo, which is why I have it.

What made you choose GL over say Batman or Superman if you aren't such a big GL fan? What was it about that symbol that made you want to have it on your body permanently? If it's to symbolize when you got back into comics, wouldn't the DC logo have been just as valid a choice?

All my friends seem to be fifty/fifty on these as well, and each day even I can't make up my mind. I think I'm just going to sit both these in front of the artist and find out what he thinks he can do with them and pick whichever pitch I like better. Right now I'm leaning more towards the P. Yeah, that's why I need to talk to the guy, see if it's even viable. I've looked over his online portfolio though, and he's got some skills. End of the day I think I'm going to probably have to take the first one simply for maintenance and probably even cost effectiveness (all that detail will take forever).

Agreed. The other one I envision as more of a leg tattoo.
That's pretty much what I was thinking on both accounts. The top one is def going on my upper left arm, high enough so that later on if I find some cool sort of background or pattern I like, I can put it behind him and turn the overall into little more than a quarter sleeve (sadly, nothing can go below the elbows. Job and all).
More I look at it, the more I think that P. Craig on is meant to be a leg tat, and I'm not looking for that right now. I think I'll file that for later after I get the first one, and after I look into the one I want to get on my back.

I've designed my fair share of tattoos, and if you were to take that second picture to a GOOD tattoo artist s/he should be able to tweak that design.
Just ask your friends about where they got their ink, then take a ride one afternoon to check the places out. Bring the pictures with you and talk to the artists at the parlors. If they're any good, you'll be able to tell first hand from there. Then just pick the best place that will be able to do the design the way you want it.
Both of those pictures are going to have to be messed around with a little bit to get them right, so don't hesitate to talk to the artists. It's there job.
Oh and for the guys that were curious about White ink. It can be done, it's just the color that is most likely to fade over time. There was a fad a few years back of getting just pure white tats. That way, they'd fade away over time.

OH yeah, that'd be the other option. Maybe if I get a suits job soon, so I'm always in a dress shirt, but right now I'm in a job that I basically wear a polo shirt 90% of the time.
It's going in a "down the road" file. I'm taking that Dringenberg Sandman image to the artist on Thurs, and I'm going to talk to him about a design for my back. I wanna get "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?" done in between my shoulder blades in some sort of pseudo-Latin font. It's such a long phrase though, that I don't think I want to have two lines directly beneath each other, so I'm thinking I might see if he can have the first two words arch up, and the second two go in a straight line so it looks like a half circle. And then I might see about filling the center with something like maybe a Rorschach blotch.
That'll come after WWChicago though. First thing is that Sandman.

DarrOn,
A company logo is a tricky thing...if you were going to do any of those, I'd say the old DC logo, cuz it has some history, and was around for a while.
Really, in your case, if I were you, which I'm obviously not, I'd find someone to design a logo for you specifically with your initials.
But if I had to pick, old school DC by a long long shot.

Humphrey, if you get a good tattoo artist the second one wont be a problem and it would make for an awesome back of the calf or a sleeve. It WILL however be super expensive cuz of the detail, but so worth it.
I wanted the green lantern symbol on my forearm for about two years and then I opted to get something with more meaning. I'm getting something I drew for role playing. Im a scribe mag (I cast symbols through the use of symbols), and I decided I would draw all the symbols for my spells. I'm going to get my fireball symbol tattooed or my firestorm.

To be perfectly honest, I was leaning towards the DC Shows logo, if but for only two reasons....it's already plastered all around me (a lot of my friends associate that logo with me now), and Rob Dyrdek is nothing short of my idol. The man is a genius. He's built DC up from scratch, and that's damned impressive. Plus he's one helluva funny mofo.
I haven't made my decision as of yet, but you guys have definately helped. Thanks!

Four weeks from now and I get my Sandman. Yay, I guess. Now I have to figure out if I want some sort of background to it. I think I'm going to just get the Morpheus for now and get an added effect behind it later and try and turn it into a quarter sleeve or something. We'll see. Oh well, at least I'll finally be getting it done. Hopefully I can book a 2nd appointment for Sept or so.

I always liked the more natural looking wolverine, without the spandex and whatnot. A costume is fine, I just hated the mask. So yeah, something like this Kubert drawing, maybe with the costume on, that's probably the way I'd go.

Now that I think of it in addition to my Snoopy on a typewriter tattoo, I'd also consider a tattoo of Captain Haddock from Tintin.

My buddy Mike the Marine Biologist just got his new shark tattoo. It was his first, so we did a lot of talking about the feeling you get when you're getting inked. That feeling that you'll need to come back to this and do it all over again, and soon. It's addictive.
So, I've been thinking about my next tattoo. I've had this idea for a half sleeve for a while now. I want each of my arms to tell a story. The first is going to be a shipwreck. This morning I've been looking at the art blog of Carson Ellis (http://littlelittlegreenhouse.blogspot.com/), the artist who does the graphic designs for The Decemberists (she's also Colin's girlfriend).
And I found this:

Ah, I didn't see this until now. Thanks, man. Whatever designs you come up with would be dope. If I don't use them as a tattoo, I'd definitely use them in the promotion of fuzzy typewriter. It's about to get a whole lot more theatrical, so I could use that kind of thing in the future.

I've always wanted a Superheroine pinup tattoo. But I'm not a huge fan of Wonder Woman, Supergirl or any female superheros.
Plus I don't want people to think I'm a male chauvinist. Especially girls.
Maybe Wonder Pig (Miss Piggy as Wonder Woman) I love Miss Peggy.

I'm very happy with how it turned out, though it's only about halfway done. I'm going back to the guy sometime in about six weeks or so to get some sort of bluish swirl pattern surrounding him as sort of a frame and as emphasis, and turning it into a quarter sleeve. I'm just going to let him whip something up, he obviously knows what he's doing.

So three months after getting my first tattoo, I finally got a background piece for it, and now that it's healed, here you guys go:

I love it to death so far, but now I'm trying to figure out what I get next. I could keep adding to this one, making it more "sleevelike" but I'm also thinking I could get a completely new one on the other side of my body. There's a band symbol I really really like that would be awesome as a tat, but I kinda want to just let my artist go creative as well. I feel bad having him more "Copy and Paste" things onto me.
Oh well. Lemme know what you think, y'know, if anyone cares... Bueller?

The top layers of skin need to molt off without being picked to get to the fresh skin underneath with the ink intact. You gotta keep it medicated and lubed for about two weeks before everything is a-okay. Hell, it's been three weeks now and it still gets dry from time to time.

When I got the Sandman part done back in July it took about 4 hours. The background I got done last month and took about 2 and a 1/2. Not bad all said. I'm still figuring out what I'm getting next.

I want to get Morpheus on one arm and Wesley Dodds on the other, but I think I mentioned that somewhere in this thread. In another effort of mine to steal other's ideas, I also want to get 'Partum Vel Intereo' written on my back. Just like that sticker someone (I think Kwok) posted a long time ago.

I don't know what I'm getting next, but I really want to do something I can let my artist mostly improvise. The problem is, when I think of what I like and what I want it's usually stuff that I've seen before and think is very symbolic. Like, I really want to get the new Rise Against symbol put on my forearm next (sans the band name of course, that's kinda pushing it):
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y246/HumphreyLee/RiseAgainstlogo.jpg
I might get something comic themed that he can have a bit of creative input on. Like, I might get "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes" put on me somewhere (probably a forearm) and let him come up with the font and the design. I don't know yet.

That's the part that I'm struggling with. You can get white ink, but I dunno. I thought about getting some kind of background and then getting white ink over that. But maybe I should just get the black outline.
