Happy birthday, Josh.

Don't spend it all in one place.

Unless it's the ball pit at McDonalds. Hours of fun.

Way to be 30, big man. I highly recommend 30. As I recall, 30 is the year you get a new job, get a new house, and get married to the mother of your children. Your personal mileage may vary, of course.

Oh, and you get crowned web-sexy, which obviously doesn't suck. It would be a lot cooler if you were single, of course.

Aw, you guys...

Thanks everyone. I feel no different, but suddenly, I find myself thinking more and more that the GOP has some pretty good points. And golf. I suddenly want to golf, and for the love of God: TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN!

As for giftings, yes, I did get a watch, and I quite like it. It's the nicest one I've ever owned. But I also managed to score myself a new laptop via non-gift means, which is sweet. I also ended up with 2 copies of Absolute Dark Knight somehow. One of them might magically transform into Absolute New Frontier if I concentrate hard enough.

And now, I get to spend gift certs and bday money on useless crap!

Oh also, I think I've decided to get myself another tattoo to mark the year. See, if I say it here, I've gotta do it. Just not sure what it is yet. Non-comics related however.

Again, thanks everyone. Y'all's the best.

jimski
02-28-2007, 04:37 AM
Congrats!! I too magically got a new laptop this week. Enjoy it before the new OS tweaks wear on you.

Beware new tattoos, though. Just make sure you mean it, whatever "it" is. I have friends in real life who have literally covered their bodies with 'em. Personally, I find them a huge turnoff... which, I guess, is pretty meaningless here. Sorry, Josh, you and I will never date!

That's good advice. When you're absolutely sure you've come up with the best tattoo...wait a few weeks. Then see if you still want it.

The same methods do not apply for laundry and deciding what you want for dinner.

It's been three weeks since I decided I wanted a tattoo of a manatee in a KFC bucket on my sternum, and I'm only just starting to waver.

Y'know, I just turned 30, not 18...

;)

New OS? I assume you're talking about Vista? As you might know, I'm the iconoclast of the group, and I'm working on OSX right now.

Granted, Leopard should be out any time now, and instead of getting it free, I'm going to have to pay for it.

jimski
02-28-2007, 05:06 AM
I was indeed thinking of Vista, which when I was laptop-shopping I was sure would make me kill myself but which is shaping up to be pretty non-toxic so far. Still, in the never-ending quest for OS self-improvement, you never know how the latest tweak is gonna bite you in the @$$. I have learned the hard way to fear the worst!

Indeed, Have a very Happy Birthday, you young whipper snapper. As for the tatoo, I'm sure the final decision will have to be approved by your wife (as it should be), but I would pass. By the time you are 40 (yes, it does happen too) those nice colors will have turned grayish blue.

But forget that now, and ENJOY! You're thirty and totally "web-sexy" (that is the funniest thing I've ever read, but so appropriate). The best thing about 30 is you can look at what you've accomplished, and then think about where you want to be by 40. At this rate, you're doing pretty good.

Many Happy Returns! The best thing about 30 -- so many people slip away as the transitory nature of the 20s turns into the grounded and "real" 30s, and you see who your real friends are. - and you also seem to be doing pretty good there too (that was my subtle compliment to Conor and Ron and your wife, in case they weren't paying attention...)

Many Happy Returns.

I will never own Vista. I have Windows at home, a Mac at work, and also a Linux machine at work. After having seen some of the Vista stuff[read problems and offensive bullshit], I will never buy it. My next home computer will be a Mac

You aren't the first person I've ehard say that. A lot of people I know are turing to Linux as well.

I haven't even really read much about vista so I haven't made up my mind yet.

I saw his USM #100 cover at the NYCC and I wanted it so bad. Not enough to pay a few hundred dollars for it, but so bad none the less

I've read a bit but I couldn't get into it. I'm not even sure how to describe why. It seemed too simplistic(not the total right word) or something.

A few hundred dollars? We were there for the auction on Sunday - pieces were going for between $1,000-2,000.

I had no idea how high it would go. I know that it started at $100 so I figured it would go to at least $500 or $600

$2000 is insane

They are completely original works and the money goes towards a good cause. If I had the money I would spend it like that

fred

Nice avatar, Josh.

The downfall of Studio 60 has me re-watching West Wing on DVD. Even the non-Sorkin years.

I want to be Josh Lyman when I grow up.

fred

No, I wanted it really bad but something feels obscene about paying $250 for it. I'm still upset I didn't get it, I should've.

darron
03-02-2007, 01:09 AM
Tisk tisk, my friend. I wanted to you have that one, too. I could totally see the reason behind not getting it, though. I mean, how do you explain to people you spent $250 on pencils of two comic book characters butt-****ing, and not sound completely like....well, Fred. I guess you really wouldn't have to explain it, then, huh?

fred
03-02-2007, 01:14 AM
It was shame in explaining it. When I told my wife about it, she was like 'oh of course'. You know me you get it.

It just seems kind of crazy though.

Finances allowing, I intend to. The problem I'm running into is that I'm reading quite a few things in trade right now due to the recommendations that I've picked up here. Right now I'm reading Runaways, Queen and Country, Fables, 100 Bullets and Ultimate Spider-Man in trade not to mention Alias. I'll get to it, it just might not be anytime soon.

It just becomes like buying regular monthly books. I just end up waiting between 4-5 weeks between each trade of a certain name. I forgot to put on there Ultimate X-Men.
