View Full Version : Bypassing SonicWALL firewall

I am currently at school and want to access sites like IGN and such, but our school this year installed the sonicWALL blocker. Is there anyway to get around this? I tried using the Google cached method, but I can't login anywhere because as soon as I click a link on the front page, it says site blocked. I tried a few proxy sites (not all are blocked) and have yet to have any luck. Any ideas?

I forget which program can do it, but you have to keep changing your IP address, I know thats how I got around my schools firewall.

I'll see if I can find it.

I've never tried to do it, myself.

But here's (http://www.google.com/search?q=bypass+corporate+proxy&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official) where I'd start.

Likely someone else will give you a more thorough explanation, though.

After I'm finished laughing my butt off, I'll ask for you. By any chance, are you at George Mason University?

Just a few random idea's.. create a shortcut to 'command.com' and then ping the sites to get their ip and connect via http://ip.goes.here.ok instead of using the DNS - there's a chance that it'll just filter DNS. If not, then use TorPark instead i guess. Or try booting to safe mode or a livecd for *nix.

I'm more familiar with SonicWALL than I should admit. But hell, I'm not using my legal name here anyway.

They tell me you can't unless you hack your way in and alter the settings.

It's kind of a no-brainer that my company has the SW firewall installed. One site that's blocked is my company's own website, I think to bother us more than anything. I use the IP, and that works fine. I use our DNS look-up to get it.

The hosting for ign.com is listed at 216.35.123.102 that goes nowhere, but ign.com pings 216.35.123.87, which brings up a "We're sorry, but we were unable to find the page you requested," but which is on their site. (Incidentally, 216.35.123.87.com takes you to a webcam/porn site.)

Tinker with it, hack it, or ask your school's admins to unblock it. If you find something that works, PLEASE let me know.

Well, I found one thing that works. http://proxify.com . Now, if I try to go to that site directly, it blocks it. But if I go to it through a link, it works. Then I type in the url, and voila. 2 problems with it though. 1) Some websites are only for pay customers. 2) If they are really busy, only pay customers get to get through. Still, it's better than nothing.

Oh and whoever asked what school I am at, I'm still in high school so you know, in a little town called Bethany, MO. Yeah, missouri sucks.

agree!

there are a ton of proxies out there you can use, or use the SSH proxy setup, where you setup the SSH server at home, connect to it from work (Putty) and you would actually be routing through your home PC to get to the internet, therefor bypassing the security of the firewall.. but be carefull!!

If you can use someone else's VPN and connect to them via the VPN, then you wouldn't be subject to all the rules of SonicWALL's firewalls. But this means that you need to know someone who has a VPN account from some other company/school/etc. who is willing to let you use it.

Sonic WALL is blocking it as well as the one previously posted.

Someone responded to a joke I posted online.

Can't get onto that forum;( Thanks to Sonic WALL.

The thing that bugs me the most is that Sonic WALL doesn't say why it is blocking a site.

Are you unable to reach the forum you want while at home/school or at home? If you aren't the one in charge, well, you're SOL. The admin of the account can adjust the setting, and for whatever reason your admin doesn't want you reaching certain sites. Nothing SW can do about it. You'd have to hack in and change the settings, which I absolutely don't recommend. Or you can wait until you get home.

Your school fails in its encouragement of proper spelling and punctuation and capitalization.

You realize the last post in this thread was 8 months ago, and the original post is from 2006?

there is one way to do it that i know of
you open up command prompt (cmd)
when it opens type in tracert www.example.com
when it finishes look at the bottom and there should be an ip address
type in the ip address in your internet browser and there you go
