View Full Version : Should Fred’s weekly review thread be ‘sticky’?

We all know and love (and sometimes hate) Fred, IE the fourth ifanboy. Every week Fred writes lengthily reviews of the comic books he reads. Fred has been posting his reviews on ifanboy.com before there was a forum where everyone could post reviews. I think Fred’s reviews are interesting to read and fun to comment on. Fred’s reviews also eliminate many other threads from being started, aside from the obvious Pick of the Week thread, which we all love (unless its Batman #663). Please vote Yes if you would like to see Fred’s weekly review post become a sticky thread ( attached to the top of the screen). And vote no if you hate Jesus and babies. Thank you for your time.

And vote no if you hate Jesus and babies. Clearly you are talented sir. Have you ever been an intern for Karl Rove? Just a question, not trying to start a fight.

fred's reviews should be pinned but only if they are taken down at the end of the week. huge rolling threads often obscure the current thread topic. if there was just one mega-thread for fred's reviews it could go hundreds of pages deep in no time.

nobody wants to shift through the previous 10 pages just to get the gist of the reviews. eventually it would become one of those sticky threads only a few members post inside jokes in and nobody else cares about. seen it happen on many a forum. /yawn

(no offense is meant to anyone. fred is an alright boarder in my book.)

I'm not arguing for my reviews becoming a sticky, because that kind of feels unseemly(although I did vote yes - what can I say?), but I do agree that if it were to happen the old ones should be replaced by the new ones.

Why does Fred's review thread need to be a sticky? There's enough conversation on it to keep it near the top of the front page anyway until the next week he puts them up. I'd vote no, but that would mean i dislike Fred, and i don't, fred's the man, but really the system works fine.

Who doesn't like Fred?! I think they should be sticky but they shouldn't be taken down at the end of the week... Fred rocks!

Fred's reviews dont NEED to be sticky, I just want them to be ok?

Seriously though, there are so many threads going on I don’t even try to keep up with them. I do however Keep up with Fred’s reviews and the pick of the week and the video thread.

I definitely get where you're coming from, if you miss a day on these boards there's way too much to read through, but i'm just saying the thread is usually going to be near the top anyway cuz there's so much conversation that its not really necessary.

I'm all for Fred's thread being sticky. But if that didn't happen, cant you subscribe to particular thread within the options? I've seen something giving that option, but haven't tried it personally

Fred should be sticky? Here my internet lingo fails. Is Fred sticky now? It here NY Con got pretty wild...

Status quo as is-- provides valuable insight in addition to regular POW and podcast, and each week the thread slides down as it's replaced by the next week's thread. By the time it goes off topic (sometimes pretty fast, Fred will say that), it's already the next week, last week is gone, and its time for a new one to pop up, with fresh stuff, and there it is. Fred covers multiple titles, not just one, here you can see the "serious Fred side" (it actually exists, to an extent),all in one thread, rather than too many thread topics on all manner of things.

Status quo, that's my vote.

I have actually gone back in time on the threads (since Tokyo is one to two weeks behind in shipping new issues) to check reviews of issues on Fred's review thread, and that's just about the only thread I've done that with. Just occasionally.

Status quo as is.

I vote sticky and to be left up thru out the week until the new one is posted.

One question: would the sticky be open to discussion or a closed thread with Fred's reviews only?

jerome

Discussion would definitely be necessary.

with this I strenously agree

K-Dizzle, if Fred's thread is made into a sticky with comments, how will that address your concern that others may want to post their own similar threads with reviews?

I feel like I am being scrutinized as if running for public office. As for others posting threads containing reviews, nothing would change. Fred’s reviews would be posted at the top of the page to be read by everyone, and the other threads would be posted in their normal place. I am just trying to make Fred’s reviews the ‘official’ thread, because Fred has been doing it for a while now, and doing a fine job of it. If you don’t want it to be sticky just vote no.

I support the stick.

But, only if you change the name to "Fred's Weekly post whorage"

Mighty iFanboy vs. New iFanboy. See, it's starting already. :D

For now, I don't think we're gonna sticky them because they stay at the top on their own.

If it's really a problem that people can't find them, we'll revisit, but does anyone honestly think that there's a problem finding stuff that Fred says? Like they said, if you want to, just subscribe to the thread, and you will never lose it.

I hope that's cool.

I can't recall how I did it exactly but there is a way in the User CP where you can subscribe to certain threads or each that you've participated in.

I need to read this site one day.

When you are in a specific thread click on thread tools then click on subscribe to this thread.

Which makes me wonder though, if you subscribe to the thread, it will only be for that thread but what about the future threads..

Oh well, unread threads come up first anyways for me so it doesn't bother me as much.
