I found this definition of fanboy at Wikipedia:
"Fanboy or fanboi is a term used to describe an individual (usually male, though the feminine version fangirl may be used for females) who is utterly devoted to a single fannish subject, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession, disregarding any factors that differ from their point of view. They are also typically hateful to the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements... he term originated in comic book circles, to describe someone who immersed himself in the fictional worlds of comics and the culture of comics fandom. The term is often used in a derogatory manner by other less obsessed fans."
So my question is: Is this us?

No, not really.

Maybe the question ought to be - how do we define what it means to be a fanboy?

Here are some other defs of fanboy from the Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fanboy) - none of them positive.
This term really needs to be redefined more positively.

One of the reasons we chose the name we did was because we wanted to "reclaim" the term "fanboy" from the negative stereotypes that are usually associated with it.
This is possibly because only a year before all three of us took a kick ass senior seminar senior year of college where one of the topics covered was niche groups reclaiming their identities from the negative stereotypes that the "mainstream" puts on them.
Don't know how successful we were.

Was the term ever not a self-deprecating label?

I think you've been fairly successful. The community you've created isn't full of insular, insane, dorks. There are actually really cool people here.

For this comment, you should change your avatar to be Randal. It only seems appropriate.
I like the idea of reclaiming the term and making it more respectable. This is a much better idea than the other one I've heard which is to start using Fanman instead. That's just attrocious.

If there isn't there should be an animated avatar of him doing the Randal walk. Probably would eat up a lot of bandwidth playing all of the time, but it would be hilarious.

Ok, I'll admit that I didn't know that it had a name. If this something you made up or did Kevin Smith actually name it that?
it's in the dialogue of the movie, having a ***** of a time finding it though

Ok, maybe I just went to too many concerts in my past, but I always thought he said just give us the Randal walk. It's close to the end of I.

I'm not sure what you would change the meaning of fanboy to. I mean, minus the negative connotations, there's already a great word for it, "fan."
And, quite frankly, even if this community/podcast isn't fanboy-ish, the truth is that there are many people and groups that fall well within the existing definition. If you change fanboy to mean just a normal fan, then what do you call the fanboys?

I'll have to re-watch it this weekend. I always thought he just said Randal but then again, my hearing is really bad or at least so my wife yells at me.

i enjoyed that flick the 1st time, but unlike the other smith films it doesn't really hold up to a second viewing, the jokes really lose their punch.
i'd say its a rental for sure though

I've seen the first one easily 50 times and the second about 3. You're right. It's funny but not like the first one.
I still amuse myself now and then with lines from the first.
What are you watching?

I was so disappointed in Clerks 2 I can't even tell you. Either, stop going to the well, or get off the stage. It was funny right through J&SBSB. I even didn't mind the one after that, who's name I can't remember, which, while not so good, was at least an attempt at something else.
I fear Smith's future will/should be public speaking, and being a smartass unto himself.
He moderated the BSG panel I went to at NYCC (you can see it briefly at the opening of the NYCC video) and he was extremely funny. But Clerks 2 was just kinda sad.

I'm about to make my most serious statement:
A couple of weeks ago I was searching through ITunes and ran across the IFanboy podcast. And i listen to the latest one that week. After listening I downloaded some older ones and than started to go to the site. I can honestly say that the guys- Ron,Connor, and Josh, have really done something here. Being someone who read comics pretty normally along with my other novels and magazines and imbetween TV,I never would've said i was a fanboy. For a longtime the media has stated that its something negative. Your either a dork,a slacker, a weirdo,or wasting you time and money(which angers me cause I mean theres worse you could be spending your money on). And the site and the forum show its not such a band thing to be a fan and constant reader of comics. So to jumo off the serious bandwagon i end with this.........
My Name is JoRel and I'm a comicholic
or say
Fanboy! (hey i thought it was funny)

I think it depends on how it's said. If you say fanboy with disdain, I don't like that. If you want to go all fanboy cuz you got a sketch from Jae Lee, well, that's not so bad.
I say, own it, and set the tone with your personality and behavior.

Jersey Girl was the one after Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I was honestly upset that he was doing Clerks 2 in the first place and when I found out it was color I was really annoyed. I think it had its moments but if you edited out all of the a2m and interspecies erotica you don't have a movie.
