It seem to me that grown men on Myspace is a little creepy and maybe even dangerous for the man.

If you need a Web presence just make a web site but don't join a club for kids.

Yikes, I hope no one here has a myspace account.

Most do, I'd imagine.

From what I can tell, MySpace has long since stopped being a site just for "kids." iFanboy (http://www.myspace.com/ifanboy) has a MySpace page. So does Josh (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=50135806) and Ron (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=892535). Don't know about Conor.

I meant no offence but as a teacher I would never set up an account there. I guess your podcast sort of meshes with a MySpace account but for grown men its an iffy place to be IMO.

Cool profiles. But seriously dude, "Office Stud Muffin"? Glad to see Gordon the Intern represented, too.

That quote has nothing to do with iFanboy.

I can see a teacher not wanting to have a profile, that makes sense. But unless you are the kind of grown man who wants to troll for underage girls/boys, then there's no harm in it.

Watson, you might find this of interest. MySpace audience grows up, report says (http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2006/10/06/tech-myspace.html).

As of October 2006 article says, "Youths aren't the only ones occupying MySpace. Half of the site's users are 35 or older, according to comScore Media Metrix's analysis of its U.S. internet traffic measurements.

Only 30 per cent are under 25, despite a common belief that the site is mostly populated with kids and young adults.

Just a year ago, under-18 users made up about 25 per cent of MySpace, the popular online hangout run by News Corp. That's now down to 12 per cent in the comScore analysis released Thursday.

By contrast, the 35-54 group at MySpace grew to 41 per cent in August, from 32 per cent a year earlier."

I agree. But if a man were ever accused of anything the MySpace account might not look good.

I have heard those numbers and I don't buy them. And neither does John Dvorak on his Twit podcast.

I dont have any teenage people in my life. I had no idea what myspace was untill I saw a column in my loI local indy city paper. I looked around and thought it was a really cool way to check out new music. After a few months of talking about it to my friends and people at work I learned MOST of the people I know (and I know a lot of people over 30) had a myspace page.

I could be wrong but I still think its dangerous.

Coming from a 20 year old, Myspace can be pretty damned convenient. It's a good way to find old friends, and keep in touch with current ones("Blah blah that's what cellphones are for blah blah"). It ain't the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's not the devil, either.

I'll never get MySpace. I don't think it's any more dangerous than anything else. I just think its dumb. I'm glad there are people that enjoy it. I will never be one of them. I'm not trying to insult anyone, it's just not my thing

Dude, if someone get's mad at you for making fun of myspace, then they're probably a retarded monkey, so I wouldn't worry about it.

LOL. Yea, but there are people out there that take that kinda stuff waaaaay too seriously. I'm all for being nice, but screw people like that.

No offense.

OK, so here the deal then:

Normal people, not that interesting. I don't care what you had for lunch. I don't care who your friends are or your thoughts on all the random minutiae in your life I know nothing about. This, what we do here, is different in that we have things in common and speak about common experiences. I almost never talk about what type of sandwich I had for lunch(don't make me find an example)

and the songs and wallpaper? Again, are you that important that I have to wait an extra 30 seconds for your page to load so that I can listen to AFI whilst I read about your lovely sandwich.

eh - I'm an old man

darron

There ya go, Fred, vent!

Even though my page does gave said song (not AFI, fer Christ's sake) and wallpaper. ;-) Gotta keep it fly-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y 'til I die-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie.

I love my myspace page, especially the wallpaper. Of course, I barely use it for anything other than to keep tabs on bands coming through the Burgh.

the interface does suck. It's way too slow to be as popular as it is. I begrudgingly made a myspace page, but hardly ever use it.

Being a college student, I'm more of a Facebook guy.

I have a comicspace (http://www.comicspace.com/fred) page but I don't really use it and I only have it because it has stripped out most of the myspace stuff I'm not into

plus bendis can be my friend

Thats what I use it for to. Do you get to see Caustic Christ twice a week living there?

Eh, I catch them on billings every once and a while, but I don't think I've ever caught them live. This area tends to either have a ton of great concerts, or be absolutely dead. It just depends on how much booking this one venue does because they seem to be the only one that tries to bring in those kinds of bands. It really sucks sometimes.

I havent been there for about ten years, but it seemed pretty cool at the time. I went to a record store across the street from the greyhound station called the Ides. I bought a Misfits record there. I still have it.

I can see Fred's point of view. I only have a myspace page coz a co-worker and my cousin practically forced me at gunpoing to get one. I have a friendster page but I hardly touch it. I love comicspace coz at least I know there is a common interest. :)
