I just got back from seeing Black Snake Moan (http://imdb.com/title/tt0462200/). It was really good. People should check it out.

The story was really well done. It was at times exceptionally dark but actually managed to end hopefully. I felt the story, it actually viscerally dragged me along for the ride.

The performances were great. Christina Ricci(love her madly) was really great. Justin Timberlake was believeable at least 80% of the time which puts him at about 75% higher than I expected. Samuel L Jackson is one talented mother****er. I put it that way because in this movie, and many of his, it occurs to me that he owns the word mother****er. It never sounds the same coming from anyone else. It's like his 'You're Fired'. John Cothran Jr. was great in a limited role.

The only complaint that I could find was that it was too slowly paced in spots and the script wasn't as tight as it could've been. I think though, upon further reflection, that this was intentional and kind of fits. It wouldn't be the same movie wrapped in a tight little bow.

I liked it a lot, almost loved it.

It's on my list. Glad Christina Ricci is finally in a decent movie.

Thanks, Fred.

Really? I've been reading good things. Pacing problems?

It should be noted that I'm the only person in the world who hates Fight Club ...

It should be noted that I'm the only person in the world who hates Fight Club ... It had a lot of problems to me, but I dont want to ruin it for you, I dont know how much you know about the Zodiac killer. I read a lot about the Killings and the suspects to the point where I was having nightmares. did you see the black dahlia? If so the Zodiac was a little better, but not much.

I'm going today - my hopes can't be any higher, I've been looking forward to it since I first heard of Fincher doing it.

One of the biggest disappointments in recent movies for me - I am a James Ellroy acolyte and thought DePalma could be a good fit. Alas, the last 45 mins was some of the worst crap I've scene - not that the first hour was great either, but by the end I was laughing at it.

I think Zodiac looks promising. Opening night though, Sam Jackson and Christina Ricci in the same movie, there really wasn't even a choice for me.

My wife is obsessed with Ellroy. I feel like I've read the books even though I never have. We were both very upset with it. It didn't go anywhere, didn't take a stand, had pacing issues. All kinds of problems

it is. It's totally ****ed. Sam Jackson is so great. I couldn't ever root against him although I spent much of the movie questioning what the hell he was doing. He does the wrong things, but he thinks he's doing them for the right reasons. It's all very different.

Christina Ricci wearing a chain around her waist - that's what I'd call different.

she is soooooo hot. She's been in movies like forever and she's only 9 months younger than me. I can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't attracted to her. There are times in the movie where she's really hot and there are times when she would be but the circumstances are just so disturbing that that part just goes away.

The first movie that I remember Christina Ricci really making an impression on me was "The Ice Storm." It was a great (and very strange) movie. She had a funky character.

she first came to my attention as the dark and quirky Wednesday Addams. We were both like 11, it's ok.
Have you seen Buffalo 66? Pecker? Pumpkin? 200 Cigarettes?

I remember seeing her in the Addams Family. She was a perfect Wednesday. I've seen most of her films. I'm a fan too.

Pecker is really good.

From Small Soldiers to Prozac Nation, Casper to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, she's had quite the career.

Pecker is an awesome movie. I didn't really care for Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas, it annoyed me on some level. It's odd too because I'm a big Johnny Depp fan as well but that didn't do it for me. Sleepy Hollow, which they were also both in, was ok but should've been better.

Sleepy Hollow I wasn't a big fan of either.

But you, you really should check out Fear and Loathing again. it's one of the trippiest, most ****ed up flicks I've seen. I do agree that parts of it are just....like, what!?

The book was so good that I can't imagine the movie holding a candle to it. I loved Hunter S. Thompson. Its too bad he committed suicide. It sours many of the ideas he stood for, or said he stood for.

Maybe I might go see Zodiac after all... I wasn't exactly raving about The Black Dahlia but it wasn't exactly bad either...

Yeah I saw Zodiac last night...it was only okay, which was dissapointing. I expected more, just too much damn recaping of facts that had already been mentioned twice and three times before.

Plus it's a 1/2 hour long and it made me late for work. But casting and performances we're strong overall (gyllenhall doesn't do it for me, so figure that in).

Ricci was in Small soldiers? Thought that was DUnst.

Yes and no. Dunst was the love interest, Christina was the voice of the "Gwendy" (read: Barbie) dolls.

Saw Zodiac last night, and have to disagree - any mention of it in the same breath as the crap that was Black Dahlia is misplaced.

For a 2hr 40min movie, I was never bored at all. The suspensful parts were handled expertly, the acting excellent, and the pacing generally very good considering it is ultimately a talky police procedural. in an article I read, Fincher said he had to make some tough cuts to get it to this length - I look forward to the DVD director's cut. I may be the exception in wanting to see a longer version, but so be it. I think if crime is your thing, this is one to see.

Anything around that length is tough enough before the director's cut. I went to see Apocolyspe Now Redux in the theater and I think it was 30 minutes or so longer. I hardly got through it. It was such a slog. The original is so good too. It's crazy how worse it got.

You mean that dinner scene they added didn't do it for you?
