View Full Version : Who is your Avengers ‘Dream team’?

Bendis killed my beloved Avengers team and has been rebuilding new Avengers teams . The only good to come from it (in my opinion) is the Avengers becoming Marvel’s flagship title again. Who would be on your Avengers team, and who is your all time favorite Avenger?

Returning to comics, one of the first things I picked up was the first New Avengers trade. Previous to that, I had absolutely no exposure to the Avengers. I've yet to read a comic book with the real Thor in it. So, that's where I'm coming from.

I really like the idea that the lineup changes. Because they're really the showcase of the ever-morphing Marvel universe.

That said...

Cap
Beast
Luke Cage
Wasp
Spider-Man
Spider-Woman
Hawkeye

I have always liked the revolving door to the Avengers myself. New members can join, old member can always come back. I like your team becaue it contains my all time fave, Jan.

Okay, here we go:

Black Panther (Team Leader)
Quasar (Cosmic Powerhouse)
Spider-Man (Lighthearted, comic, soul of team)
Ms. Marvel (Physical Powerhouse)
Mr. Fantastic (Tech Guru)
Wasp (heart of team, 2nd in command)
Darkhawk (hero in training, Spidey's comedic buddy)

This is difficult because every Line-up they've had has been perfect for the stories the writer wanted to tell. I'm a fan of the Busiek (classic) and Bendis (new) teams, but I'll give it a shot.

Cap (THE most capable leader in the Marvel U)
Spider-Man
Hawkeye
Thor
Ms. Marvel
Vision
Luke Cage (I wanted to say She-Hulk, but realized that it was just the old-school fanboy talking)
Songbird (There always has to be someone new to the team)

I'm coming at things from a different direction. Bendis didn't destroy my Avengers; he caused me to read a book about the Avengers. I had picked up Geoff Johns' run before that, but spent half of it going, "Jack of Hearts? Who the...? What the **** is a 'warbird'? 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes,' my ***!"

Just a caveat, there.

My ideal team would probably be:

She-Hulk
Beast, who is magically not a goddamn kitty-cat anymore, Grant
Captain America (it seems unnatural somehow otherwise)
Thor
Wasp
Cap'n Marvel, Nextwave edition
Jessica Jones (I just miss her, all right?)

Even after all this time, it still seems like Spider-Man being an Avenger is a privation of the character. I can't help it.

I like

Captain America as the leader and moral center
Thor as the powerhouse
Vision for the pathos
Wanda as the Deus ex Machina and love interest
Iron Man as the money and the counter to Cap
Quicksilver as the jerk and speedster

I don't like Jan, she seems too B team to me
I don't like Hank. He whines to much.
I don't like hawkeye. He is just too much of a jerk.
I like the Hulk but he just does not fit in the Avengers to me. He is too violent.
Wonder Man I can do without.
Spider-man should never have joined but I did like the stories he and Wolverine were in so yeah I know that's illogical. I guess I just do not like him being treated like an idiot by Wolverine and every other Avenger. He is freaking Spider Man not Ambush Bug. Show him some respect.

I actually agree with this, but as a Spider-nerd it just feels wrong to have him on a team. It's essential to the story for Spidey to be a misunderstood loner who everyone else thinks is a creepy weirdo. I mean, he tried to join the FF in the first issue of his own book, but from then on it's always been something he wanted but could never seem to get. Spidey is destined to be in the gutter looking at the stars. To have him be in the Avengers as a legitimate hero is as crazy as, like, having him marry a supermodel or something. I mean, what next, have him go from not being able to make rent to living in a penthouse apartment? What? That happened? My favorite character is ruined? Oh. I see. Never mind.

Can someone please explain "Dinah Soar"? Not just as an Avenger, but as a thing created--by a human being, presumably--in a world where people still feel relatively safe to have babies?

All the great things I loved about spiderman as a kid are now gone, so he might as well be a totally different character now. New spidey fans love him in the movies because he is true to his Stan Lee roots, but when they read the comic books they dont understand why he is so different and it turns them off to the comic book stories. Spiderman is now an Icon, more than a stable Marvel Character but that can be said about most of the iconic heroes. I think thats why I love Peter DAvids x factor so much.

That's a pokemon with a balloon and it's on an Avengers team. That did not come from the Savage Land. That came from my 7th grade gameboy, or possibly the wall of a carnival ring-toss game. Either way, that is not rescuing me and my neighborhood from a Skrull.

I think the GLA showed up first in West Coast Avengers. It's been a looooooong time, but as I recall they've never been anything other than a joke. They're just a bunch of people in Michigan who started calling themselves "Avengers" and have been asked to stop it.

The recent minis and one-shots (Dan Slott, I think?) have been pretty entertaining.

I have to disagree with some of you about Spider-Man on the Avengers. Spidey has always been defined by the public as a misunderstood loner, but his own history has shown that he works incredibly well as a team player. Cap said it so well during the formation of the 'New Avenger'; that he was always impressed by him.

I think of all the team-ups and other moments when Parker has really been able to shine in groups. Black Cat, Human Torch, Wolverine, all the times he's shown up to lend a hand to a team or another street-level character. His unique ability to rescue people, always be a moment away with a rope or net made of web, and detect harm not only to himself but to others would make him a welcome addition to any team I'd ever put together.

Cap has liked Spider Man since he put the beat down on Fire Lord. What I don't get is why Peter worships Cap so much. Spider Man could take Cap's lunch money if he wanted to.

At this point, for Spider-man to pull the loner card and consider himself an outsider, that's just kind of arrogant. And more than a little super-emo. He's not public enemy number one, and he has plenty of people to talk to.

Daredevil went to jail.

Cap was born in 1917.

The Hulk was banished to another planet.

Those are reasons for angst.

I think Spidey definately has Cap in the power dept. But Cap probably trumps him in the skill and strategy area. As far as fighting skill goes, I think the only one that ranks up there with Cap, is Black Panther.

Maybe that's just my opinion. But what the hey, I'm on a message board.

I don't know a lot about the earlier runs. When he was drunk, did he just stop acting as Iron Man, or did he keep working as a superhero? Were there reprecussions?

It would be interesting to see what a morally superior, guilt-ridden, womanizing, drunk millionaire at the helm of a powerful organization run out of a giant helicopter would do if he really did go off the deep end.
