Yeah, I'm more interested in Buffy Season 8 than in Dark Tower. But then I'm a much bigger Buffy fan.

Also excited for BKV's run on the book....not so much Loeb.

I'm excited about both and really like Dark Tower #1. I just thought it was funny that the only crossover that I've seen was on Buffy rather than DT

Wizard actually put together a good interview with Whedon, BKV, and Loeb. (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/003709924.cfm)
Maybe Augie had something to do with it.
IF I HAD TO WRITE THE FINAL BUFFY STORY, I WOULD…
BKV: I’m f---ing ready to write it tomorrow, are you kidding? I always thought it would be kind of poignant to just have Buffy and [her friend] Xander be the last two people left, and have them reminisce about high school. The point being that, while you’re going through high school, it seems like hell, but once you’re old you begin looking at high school like it used to be paradise. So maybe that’s a Buffy reveal: When Xander asks Buffy what heaven was like, she says, “Like high school, just with you and my friends.” That’s lovely, right? Like all of my stories, it’s two old people talking. [Laughs]
I really like that idea.

I guess that's good news? I dunno. Loved Buffy in the tv series prime, but I'd be ok if it just stayed as ended.

From newsarama:
"...it was confirmed that September would see the launch of a new Serenity series, Better Days, which will be trailed by new PVC figures of River, Jayne and Mal.
I'd add commentary, but I'm too busy bouncing from wall to ceiling (so long as Joss is writing).

Did you read the first Serenity miniseries? I thought it was meh. But still excited for this.

I didn't. I had every intention to, but then I heard bad reviews. I do hope this turns out better, especially considering the poor returns on the movie (which I loved). I enjoyed what little there was of Firefly, but a lot of that enjoyment was anticipation for what it could have become eventually. Real tip-of-the-iceburg story.
So many Whedon things we're never going to get. Remember the highly speculated Ripper series?

Ripper! Augh!, I haven't thought of that for years! And the animated Buffy, and the spinoff movies, and... Wonder Woman, and....
man, a lot of stuff just sorta never happens.
(Thank God Kevin Smith never got that ongoing Spider-Man book.)

Serenity miniseries was co-written by Brett Mathews so I'm not exactly sure how the writing breakdown went. It's not terrible, but it's completely forgettable. However, it does answer a few questions from the show. Like, say, if you wanted to know what happened to those creepy men with the blue gloves, it's in there.

I'm assuming the answer isn't earth-shatteringly sensational? Eh, i'm bound to pick it up eventually.
In a related story, I just found my Sunnydale High Yearbook (with special message from the Mayor!) and the Once More With Feeling scriptbook in the basement (the brighter side of discovering you have a termite problem and need to clear everything out into the backyard...)

When it comes to Whedon and Firefly/Serendity, I have absolutely no judgment whatsoever. If he publishes, I will buy. I'm a big fan in the browncoat tradition!

Well, the comic in the fall is going to deal with events before the movie, so hopefully it's gonna be a nice comedic romp. I can't imagine anything happening after the film to be terribly jolly (though I'd still like to see that explored some day).

Ugh. Serenity was the first time I ever said, "I am done with Joss Whedon." I was one of those guys who went to the Super Secret Sneak Previews months before it actually came out, and from the moment of that last death I was so angry that I literally did not remember what happened afterwards until I saw it again on DVD. I seriously went from "this is the best thing I have ever seen!" to "f*** this, time to go home" in a split second. "Kill the comic relief to show that The Stakes Are Real, Whedon playbook move #7, seen it all before. Ho hum." It really, really bothered me. People would ask, "Do you think there will be more after this?" and I would think, "Jesus, if there was, why would you see it??"
Sort of an unconventional fan of the man. Didn't drink the Kool-Aid, as they say.

While it didn't bother me so much, it's hard to be an apologist for it, considering we have no idea where the story goes after that point. It's all we have, so I can't say whether it's the impetus for some greater story arc or just--as you said--a cheap and very drastic attempt to raise the stakes.
I have to consider, though. If it were a Buffy movie, and it was Xander impaled through the chest...I'd be ripping out my hair and tearing down the Whedon shrine for good. I love Firefly, but it's the vampire stuff I'm fiercely attached to.
