In the vein of the Avengers thread,

Id go with

Powerless Mohawked Storm - she kicked Cyclops' ass and proved herself a leader, seems that's dissapeared recently
Wolverine - well, you know...
Longshot - Good luck as a power? Unbeatable
Rogue - Jim Lee era, the unnecessary belt was sexy.
FOrge - He's Super Macgyver!
and Emma for a psychic.

Man, that's a wacky list...maybe I'll rethink and post again sometime.:)

Wolverine - I'm not even explaining that
Storm -also with Mohawk but this time with powers too
KItty Pryde - someone has to 'get' Colossus
Colossus - He's just awesome Tovarisch
Jean Gray - the version from between the birth and death of the Phoenix
The Beast - original non blue in all his cheesy 'oh my stars and garters goodness'
Nightcrawler - cause he's awesome
Cyclops - so they all have someone to make fun of and kick in the ass sometimes

If I had to make a cut or two I'd cut Kitty and Beast but it'd be tough

Rogue
Iceman(lets rekindle the rogue romance)
Juggernaut
M(more Emma tention)
and instead of Wolverine lets go with........

Sinister(hey he'll have alterior motives, but i love to see it play out, like how would he even get on the team. Hey they got Juggie,Emma, and Sabretooth on why not Mr Pale-and-Evil)

Great choice. How about an all-Grant Morrison team:

Fantomex (leader)
Xorn
Beak
Angel (the gross bug girl, not the good one)
Ernst
one of the Stepford Cuckoos

and Emma Frost

Well, Cannonballs... er, ball, has got to be on there. Best power ever. Also leader.

Elixir, of the New X-Men, before he got all serious.

Northstar, because speedsters are cool (even if they're Canadian... and French).

Marvel Girl, Rachael style, because she gets a little Phoenix over her eye. That's hardcore.

Iceman, because... well, he's Iceman! He makes the ice!

Polaris, having finally flipped her lid but good. She'd be all cah-razy...

Dead Girl, my Wolverine/Shadowcat substitute, also good for necrophelia jokes

And my wildcard pick that nobody saw coming...

RICOCHET from Slingers! Xavier finally returned his calls!

We'd be cancelled halfway through the first issue.

The New X-Men line-up... period dont need anyone else

you've got the jean grey/emma frost dichotomy
cyclops (as he is now in whedon's run.. much more interesting)
wolverine (cant have x-men without em)
beast (the snooty brains behind the team)
and professer X (c'mon, he's the founder youve got to have him, but its got to be up to date with the continuity, this would allow for interesting conflict between him and cyclops)

i was never really into the other x-men anyway..... these guys are the best!

What I'd like to see is a screwball comedy mini. Cyclops takes the whole team on a vacation to relax and learn about trust through sand castle building. Meanwhile, he just wants a nice, relaxing holiday with Emma. Something like Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.

Let's call it Summers' Rental.

Ok, am I alone in being a bit sick of Charlie? I loved him in the past as sort of the moral rudder for the X-Men, but as he's gotten to be more of a dillhole over the last few years I have significantly less interest. I applaud the books without him, and enjoy Scott and Emma in those leadership roles way more.

XAVIER IS A JERK!!!

course he`s a jerk, thats why i added him on the list. the scene where scott told him off at the end of deadly genesis made me want to see more of that conflict. 3 years ago? no way would he have been on my list, i would have replaced him with Marrow

XAVIER IS A JERK!!! I agree to a certain extent. He is a classic part of the team, but he was always there for a reason. Now it seems everyone is more ‘grown up’ and they don’t need the old bald guy telling them what to do. He has almost been written out of Astonishing. Scott and Emma should sit down with him and say ‘look dude, we really like you but were doing fine without you. If the new Danger room morphs into a killer robot we will call you’.

Haha. He is an ugly mug, but I just liked how awkward he was and that all mutants weren't super sexy models and such.

Can you imagine them sitting around huffing glue and coming up with cool Beak story ideas? OK, so how does Hulk get back to Earth? With Barnell Bohusk! They should call that shit World War Beak!

Yeah, totally man

I am very much not a marvel guy (have we determined what to call DC people yet?) but here's my go:

Beast: (modern cat guy) Am I the only one who likes how beast is now? Though the look was Claremont's doing, Beast was the established character who grew the most in Morrison's run, besides Emma.
Dead-Girl: sure she's dead right now, but i highly doubt anyone complaining about a character named dead girl being reserected.
Madrox: he's cool. (that was a period)
Kitty Pride: backbone of the team
Wolverine: with his cigars back
Cyclops: with his balls back
MAGGOT!

Rogue (leader)
Colossus (add some foreign-ness to the team, fastball special)
IceMan (long range)
Wolverine (he's Wolverine, 'nuff said)
Gambit (favorite X-Man at all time)
Nightcrawler (teleportation)
Kitty Pryde (no real reason other than the fact that she kicks ass in the comics)
