im a huge movie buff and have a ridiculously large amount of dvds. i seem to got from collecting one to another. i used to buy shitload of imported cds from europe back when was in high school, the the mp3 craze hit and i stopped doing that. when dvd started up i bought far too many, and now i mainly stick to a few new and buy mostly used ones from blockbuster. ever since i toned down my dvd collecting ive been buying far too many comics, so who knows whats next... hopefully something productive like mutual funds

Don't really see myself as a comics collector. In the sense that I don't go through any great pains to preserve or acquire comics. Now music? Ah well, that's an obsession. Records number in the thousands and that's not including vinyl and other media. I'm fairly obsessive about audio quality as well.

I have a very academic book collection (more a library) of everything and anything having to do with inter-war history (1918-1939/41). Lots on the Japanese Empire but tons on Korea and China (oh, that was part of the Empire, too, we forgot, didn't we?) but also FDR era USA, Germany, Weimar Republic, rise of Nazis, Mussolini, USSR, Lenin to Stalin, the works.
And a hot jazz collection, 1925-1935. I once considered getting a graduate degree in History, but I realized I had already read 5 times more than most grad student programs offered... I was on "Japanese Labor Policy 1918-1939, and the (grad) programs were: Intro to Japanese Modern History, 1868-1989, 101. Not much they could offer me at the rates schools charge now.
Now I'm back into comics. I like serious nonficition, and then really exciting and fun fiction, lots of spy stuff -- great Alan Furst collection.
And it all fits extremely snugly in my tiny 9 by 12 foot apartment, one room (in an undisclosed location deep underneath the Tokyo Tower).

I don't really collect anything, not even comics. I buy them to enjoy them. I think collecting implies it's something you do as means of more storing to look at than enjoying.
That said, I've got, uh, about 76 seasons of TV on DVD, and I just started buying Magic The Gathering cards for the first time in four years. Yeah, I know how terribly sad that all sounds...

Chinese art books
Underground/House 12"s
some videogames
...that's about all I have room for in my tiny apt.
If I could, I'd be wildly into vinyl model kits...but for now, I must resist.

Oh, and I have about two dozen tiny model cars, 1/32 replicas of cars from the pre WW11 era. My 1932 coup is BOSS. All in this tiny room. How I do that is a constant struggle...But just one sedan, not nearly enough. I bought one with my mother there with me at an Art Deco exhibit, and I asked if another model car I bought was what her father had in the 1930s...
"No no... it's too "coup" in the back... not enough room for me and my sisters!" then I got it--Why a sedan in the old days in all the old movies I like? So the gang of hechman could pile out of the back before robbing a bank...

Yeah, it's in there, right next to Pueblo. Good game. Doesn't hit the table too much these days, though, since most people are kind of sick of it.

Cool, is there any rhyme or reason to the ones you buy, or is it just anything that looks good?
I'm a bit of a compulsive collector...I collect DVDs (film, anime), books (often various editions of the same ones), 80s TV hero figures and toy sets and stuff like that.

Well, ideally, I buy games that I've played and enjoyed.
Much of the time, I buy games that I think I'll enjoy based on reading the rules.
I get my info from www.boardgamegeek.com and www.boardgamenews.com

I have a decent library of books and DVDs. Does that count as collecting?
Ummmm...
I have three copies of Risk the board game, one copy of Risk 2210, Risk on the PC, and Risk on PS2. I have been eyeing that bookshelf version of Risk for awhile.

I guess I don't really collect comics either... I buy to enjoy and try to invest in TPBs over single issues so that it's easier to collect them on a bookshelf and so that it's easier to read them later on down the road.
I once picked up an X-Men Asgardian Wars trade from Amazon and was surprised to find that it was a 1980s printing in pristine condition. There was a note from the previous owner about how she was surprised how weel she was able to preserve it. I hope that one day my whole collection is like that, just a big old shelf of pristine books.
Too bad I already have some vile creases in my Invincible trades (stupid moving out of college packing...)

lol, I like that.
As for me, aside from comics. I collect figures. The only true line I really collect are the Justice League Unlimited figures. Other than that, it just depends on the character and the design of the figure. The in the last few months I've gotten.

Hourman
Dr. Mid-Nite
Marvel Legends
Ultimate Iron Man

NO it's not. I could drop a link to a specific page where Daddy Conor kicked your butt, Fredikins... I think it had something to do with "If Gordon is the fourth iFanboy, what about..." Conor is always fair and equal about how he kicks butt, that's why people accept his judgements.
(and you know you loved it)
(I think I'm about to get my butt kicked in a minute...)
I'm not sure that I know what that means.
Well let's see aside from comics...
Star Wars was my first "love" so to speak and original obsession. It still eats up the biggest chunk of my money. So I would say that is my biggest "other" in this instance.
I also collect comic related memorabilia. Namely characters or lines of products that I like. I have several figures from the Marvel Legends line. Plus I just pick up stuff at random when I see it like comic characters on misc. products such as band-aids, notebooks, posters, etc. There are certain themes I generally try to stick to or for bigger items it would have to be a certain character. Like I really love Batman so I will spend money on a die-cast replica model of the batmobile (like the collection they came out with awhile back that showcased Batman's cars from different decades - 40's, 50's, 60's etc). I also generally pick up Spider-Man and X-Men stuff as well. Other then that it is just at random.
I was very highly into Lord of the Rings for awhile but have since, even though I love the movies and books, have decided to not continue with that in favor of focusing on my other interests...namely Star Wars and comics.
I could list several other things but I won't bore anyone with details....but the biggest thing I seem to collect along with all of the rest of this stuff is...
DEBT.

I'm not sure that I know what that means.
It means if anybody acts up or out of line iin the threads, Conor will come crashing down and sort it out, fair and square, to make sure the playing field is fair and square for all members, be they elite member, newbie, or elite member acting like a newbie. You've never seen him do it?

I have a large amount of Star Trek CCG cards. I have finely crafted decks for the Romulans, Cardassians, Dominions, Borg, DS9-themed, Original Series-themed, and probably a couple I am not remembering.
My friends and I used to get together to play once a week, but I don't think we ever finished a game. We'd get about half way through a game and decide we were bored. Yet we kept buying those cards!

If you're ever interested in some good space themed games that don't cost an arm and a leg, I've got some recommendations. Unfortunately, there aren't many good Star Trek games.
