Overrated comics are a dime a dozen but how many comics are really much better than they have been given credit for.
I don't mean comics that were panned when they came out and only later recognized to be great but rather comics that are even today not recognized for the great works they truly were.
Of courses this is all just opinion.
I have two in mind but I won't list them yet. I'm curious if anyone else lists them. The two I am thinking of most everyone likes but they are not considered classics.
Oh what the heck, I 'll tell you.
Golden Age
And
Camelot 3000
I know most people kinda like these books but to me they are right-up their with DKR and Watchmen.

As always, I must bring up Slingers and Young Justice, two teen books way ahead of their time. Seriously, check them out. No, like, right now.
One of the first comics I read was a run of Silver Surfer in which the Surfer loses his capacity for emotion and returns to Earth to chill with Alicia Masters. It's really classic stuff. Time travel, Mephitso, Galactus, the Hulk and one of my favorite scenes involving Spider-Man and Daredevil ever. Not sure which issues it was, but these deserve some recognition
Also Impulse. It was great.

hmmm.... thats a tough one. i'll probably think of a lot better ones later, but the ones that quickly come to mind are far from classics.
i never hear mention of it, but i really enjoyed Quiver by kevin smith. it got me to really love the green arrow character, and was a sort of epic that spanned the entire DC U.
i also really enjoyed the first few trades of Ultimate X-men. everyone is always bashing this book, but i thought it was a great reimagining (and im a life long x-fan) it was action packed, and while i didn't agree with some of the changes, i still find myself pulling it out a reading it every now and again.
and ive mentioned it before, this is only underrated in comparison to Dark Knight Returns, but Year One! i love it, and i think it is by far the better of the two! i read far more often then DKR, its my favorite frank miller work.

Shade the Changing Man!!! Book is so goddamn good, and no one gives it any sort of recognition that it so deserves. Hell, you can say that about 90% of the stuff Milligan has done (well, the stuff that turned out good anyways)

I prefer the term underappreciated.
The Complete Soulwind by Scott Morse
Halo and Sprocket by Kerry Callen
Flight (v. 2 in particular) - anthology

Wow Humphrey, I thought I was the only person that had read that series. It was my first experience with Vertigo and while it was good, I felt that had I been smoking pot it would have been better, certainly the covers at least.

Current series - USAGI YOJIMBO.
Past series - There was an old one (70s, I think) that I used to pick up in the cheapies box called Batman and the Outsiders. It was awesome. I got issues 1-15 for 5 bucks, I think.

Ok, this thread is ancient, but I had to ressurect it when I remembered one of my fav-or-ite comics of all time, right up there with that Silver Surfer run.
Does anybody remember the Ka-Zar revival in the late ninties, drawn by Andy (or Adam, I can never keep them straight) Kubert? I forget who it was written by, but it was awesome! It really gave me my first sense of scope in comics, with the amazingly depicted Savage Land and its' citizens. The great characterization of Ka-Zar and Shanna, especially their struggling marriage, really made sense to me, made all the more fantastic as this very human drama took place in the Land of the friggin' Lost!
And excellent series that deserves at least a trade! WHO'S WITH ME?!

Everyone is always dissing New X-Men, i actually like it. I think Chris Yost and Craig Kyle have changed the book in a great way. It did suck in the begining but now it rocks. This week proved it,they brought the group together, and made Emma seem like she still the White Queen and not former. I think everyone should read the prologue to Magik next ish and the limbo story.

... guys?
Is'nt this the series where Kazar beat Thanos? Thats when it jumped the shark IMO.
Noice, I loved Camelot 3000 back in the day, I should dig it out and re-read it. I'll have to think about other underratted ones. I could plug Grendel:Devil's Legacy again. Matt Wagner whooo!!!
Vampires, werewolves, one of the coolest protaganists ever and the best damn silent issue in comics (I'll accept debate from the GI Joe fans out there).

Yeah I really loved The Golden Age as well, didn't really know that much about the characters before I read it, but it worked so well.
Now this will be a big stretch for some, but I loved Doom 2099, I think it was the only decent book in the 2099 Universe and I just love Doom in general as a character. The book was great, it unfortunately went very awry after the 25th issue when he found out he was the original Doom. Some of the early issues were awesome and had some great character driven moments though.
I don't know how many people have read it, but if you can track it down, Dicks by Garth Ennis is an absolute hoot of a read, very funny stuff, as long as you can understand British humor.
I still have a few more but these will do for now.
