View Full Version : Galactica: Is he a Cylon?

Since it seems this is becoming the place to discuss Sci-Fi shows as well...and a search for "Galactica" showed more threads here mentioning BSG than anywhere else aside from the dead-Geekdrome....
A co-worker of mine just came by and declared Gaeta to be a Cylon. And he had good reasons. As I tried to think of things to counter him, I realized I couldn't.
Gaeta has an unknown background, even to himself, as he was orphaned. He's rigid about sticking to the rules, just as Cylons are, and will snitch to follow rules. When he was nearly sent out the airlock, why didn't he yell to Tyrol about the dog bowl and such so that Tyrol would know an save his ass? He couldn't have known Starbuck would start yelling at him and bring up the bowl. Instead, he didn't seem scared, more or less annoyed. Baltar whispered something to him before being stabbed, something bad enough that Gaeta didn't want it brought to light. What causes more fear than anything? Cylon-accusations. Think about it. Try to counter it.
My only attempt was to ask why he didn't try to destroy the humans early on as Boomer did in the episode "Water." Casey has the theory that the Cylons may not want to completely destroy humans yet, but rather to follow them to Earth and give them plenty of reason to run, and possibly take out the humans on Earth as well (what is so special that they want Earth as home instead of Caprica?). The Cylons can number in millions, yet they haven't sent more than a few hundred Cylons after Galactica at any time, and always from semi-far away. Why not jump into the CENTER of the fleet and release twenty thousand? The fleet can't jump in five seconds. Not enough time to figure coordinates send them out. Galactica can't even get its fighters out in five or ten seconds. They've got to get to the decks first. The Cylons would have plenty of time to take the fleet out.
But they don't.
Why?
I now believe Gaeta is a Cylon, and he KNOWS it. He doesn't have fear about being sent out the airlock because he knows he will be in another body, but he didn't want Baltar to out him as he would then no longer be in a position of trust with access to information.
Yes, there was a point of "proving" Gaeta to be human, but that was more or less an attempt to remove suspicion from viewer minds while planting the clues there that will cause one to see it later when he's shown to be a Cylon.
Can you show more evidence for him to be human than Cylon to counter this?

Those are some very good points. The only significant evidence I can really think of that supports him being human is the fact that he was a key part of the humans escaping New Caprica. Why would he feed them information when the Cylons clearly didn't want the humans to escape? Of course, it could be part of a very complicated plan by the Cylons, but I like to think that's not the case because you'd really have to stretch some logic there. Still, I have been very curious about what Baltar whispered in his ear...
On a related note, a friend of mine came up with a theory on his own about Starbuck. Do you remember those promos that teased that someone would die, someone would become a cylon, and someone would find earth? He thinks that Starbuck is the one that's going to do all three of those. She's already one for three so who knows.

Unless, like Boomer, he doesn't know he's a Cylon.

Geata's big secret is that he's gay. He's not a cylon. Sorry...

Because the Cylons have decided they want to make Earth their new home and so they can follow the Colonials for a while.

Cylons don't die. So if she's dead, she can't become a Cylon.

Cylons die. They just come back.

I think that Cally Tyrol could easily be the cylon. But then I thought Ellen Tigh was a cylon.

You bring up some excellent points and I have to admit I cannot counter any of these except to say that when they were on New Caprica he sure didn't act like a Cylon (not with the information giving, but around the other Cylons in the "government"). It's not airtight, of course, he might not have known then.

That, and you could say the other Cylon's wouldn't know either (except Lucy) as they hadn't seen the final five yet.
Interesting side note, I work at a theatre box office when not in shows and he came to see the play but couldn't get in as we were sold out. Didn't come to my window specifically but the manager's, who felt like ass having to turn him away. Also said he was really high. Can Cylon's get high?

Did everybody watch last night? They're not going to do what I think they are going to do, are they??
If they do it might be the greatest twist in all of television.

That plus the title of this discussion thread equals what I think they might be doing.

What... huh... Are you implying that the ship itself maybe cylon - or at least is cylon compromised?

The two people who could hear the music that no one else could hear might in fact be cylons.
And if it's the really grizzled one... that would be fantastic.

I can see what you mean about Tigh, but wasn't Helo the other one who heard the music? The fact that his child with Athena is half-human - doesn't that eliminate him as a possible cylon?

Did Helo hear it? I thought it was just Tigh and Starbuck's husband (who was dealing pretty well with her demise, I thought).

i was really tired when i watched the episode, but i thought three people heard the music: Tigh, Anders, and the president's assistant.
God have i loved what they've done with Colonel Tigh this season. He was the star of the New Caprica arc as far as i'm concerned, and i wouldn't want to see him a Cylon... But that would be a fantastic story.

Did the assistant hear the music? You might be right about that. She could be a cyclon. They could use some more diversity anyway.

She's been acting a little unstable the last couple of episodes.

That's seriously the reason for it. Neither of us watch. Haha.
