Rev3 should develop a show similar to MTV's Pimp my Ride that takes older computers and "rev's" huh-huh them up.
An episode could be as simple as taking an old Commodore and building a completely new computer inside of it.
The catch is that it must showcase the reaction of the people that you are "pimping" it for. These people should be selected based upon their complete lack of computer knowledge (like old people).

I love the idea....And then get some large black guy to host it

I don't know about a black man, but I know that the old people idea made me think of Kevin Rose when he's telling a story.
Kevin Rose: Ok, well we started off with some pretty basic things. We upgraded the motherboard, threw in 4 gigs of ram--
Old man: Can I open my email?
Kevin Rose: Yes... you can open your email...

if it was like pimp my ride they would just make it look nice and leave the parts that do something the same.

I was actually flipping through the channels and I came across Pimp My Ride and they were actually putting in a new engine and blower! I was amazed!

"Please K-rose, pimp my CPU!"
Great idea, I'd watch it.

Actually, I'd love to see Leo get involved with Rev3. He would make a great Xzbit.

Host - Yoshi.
Pimp my CPU sounds a bit cheesy :/
However, great idea.

Yep,
Pimp my PC is much better. I just couldn't think of it at the time. And I second Yoshi as host.

Hey, not to go off-topic...ok well actually yeah the point is to go off-topic, but I noticed in your profile it says you dogsled. Thats actually something I'd be really interested in trying. Is it expensive and is it possible to do without actually buying a sled and such? pm me if you like or AIM me.

How about a different spin on your idea and make a program called "Geek My Ride." Get a crew to take a car and put a geek spin to it for example taking a old white Honda accord and fixing it up to look like an x-wing. Plus you could fill the inside with the geek gadgets to make you the biggest geek on the block.

That'd probably cost a considerable amount of money more than fixing up a simple computer. Still a cool idea.
And, fixing up a pc can probably be done in the smallest of studios.

Whatever they call it, the title can't be Pimp My __________. A cooking website was started earlier this year called Pimp My Snack, and MTV naturally threatened a lawsuit, forcing a name change. (http://www.pimpmysnack.com)

Just make the show a modding show. pimp out old pc's and do unigue and interesting mods. Yoshi for the host deffinatly he had some badass mods on TSS.

These type of shows are always funny.
It's hilarious to see some kid say she likes monkeys and then for no aparrent reason, they make her bedroom into a ****ing jungle. Who's gonna sleep in that?
But i do think that a modding show would be quite awesome.

I think that a name change might be a good idea. I liked "Pimp my PC," but I get that people think that's still too much like MTV. Why don't you guys start posting ideas, and then we'll poll to see what everyone thinks?

Rev my Rig, definitely.

"Rev my Rig" is a good name if it's going to stay along the lines of pimp my ride and only fix up people computers. I would rather have just a moding show in general. Like the segments Yoshi did on TSS. Pretty much just like how Burt Monroy turned TSS segments into a show of his own. But whatever it ends up being, Yoshi should defiantly have a show of his own.

I think the idea of this show (since it WAS my idea) is to take someone's computer and add speed, power, and functionality, much like what is done with junky automobiles on MTV's Pimp my Ride. There are other threads relating to basic modding. This is a different idea.

So, are these ideas actually viewed by people at Rev3, or is this just a waste of time?

I think that this idea is flawed for two reasons:
1) Pimp My Ride rarely adds speed, power, and functionality. They almost never touch the engine. They paint the car, give it rims, and add TVs. Much different that adding RAM to a computer, more like adding a window kit.
2) How much can you really do to a old, crappy PC before you end up paying more for upgrades than a new machine would cost? How would the episodes even vary?
"This computer is slow. We are adding RAM"
"This computer has too many MP3 files, we will add a 250GB Sata HD"
"This computer is slow. We will replace the CPU and the Motherboard and add a DVD burner."
There are only a few components in a computer. It would only take a few episodes to cover all of those. Adding things like a fan control or new CPU fan would be equally as unentertaining.
Don't mean to be rude in ripping your idea as ideas are always welcome IMO, I just don't think this show would be entertaining.
Just my 2 cents...

I'd love to see it happen but funding a show like this might be a bit harder unless they can get a sponsor like newegg or something. Alternatively I wouldn't mind seeing something along these lines but just electronics related. So Pimp my desktop, pimp my laptop, pimp my home theater, pimp my kitchen appliances for all i care haha.
Ok wait, how about this scratch this whole start a new show thing and just release some new episodes of systm. I don't even care who hosts it any more I just want a new episode. Haha

Sounds fun, but this woul's only work as single episode Pimp My Ride spoof.
Show woul'd be like...
Host: Now you have kick ass computer with brand new case and 30' flatscreen and as gift from me - new OS xxxxxxx!
Man: And whats thre is from my old computer?
Host: Well... Your My Documents folder and few screws.

I've had this same idea for a long time too. "Pimp my Rig" was the name I had in mind for this kind of show. And have it similar to the show "Overhualing" where they STEAL the person's car, mind-**** the "victim" for a week or so thinking he's lost his beat-up car, and then surprise him with an all new pimped out car.
So in for this case. The user's PC could be stolen and later gets returned all shiny and new. Perhaps someone rigs the PC to "break down" and die and he/she has to take it in for repairs only to get it pimped out. Maybe the user is gone for a day, or longer, and geeks raid his home, and pimp-geek his PC.

Or
Simply a show where we can learn how to mod everything belonging to the techi world. Like a DIY mod show.... ?

This could be a really cool show, instead of taking "unsuspecting" users' computers, they could have one really basic computer, and each episode focuses on a different components for your computer.
One episode could focus on cooling or something, and go through all the differnet cooling options and stuff, comparing price, ease of install, noise etc...
Then by the end of the series you'd have one really pimped out computer.
I think it'd be easier on the budget, and generally more informative than a "pimp my ride" style TV show, where they upgrade a new computer each episode.

I like the idea too, though the upgrades wouldnt be too inspiring and only need to be done on the most outdated pc's i think doing alot of the external origional modding would be what makes each episode unique and not just a repeat of the previous episode.

Insofar as topic goes, I think that like a once monthly show where you have something that is akin to what appears on bit-tech would be a good idea. And as far as names go, since we are going with the (verb) my (noun), how about MOD my BOX!

07-25-2007, 07:58 PM
Or how about "Mod my Machine"?
LOVE the overall idea. I picture Laporte as Xibit and Dan H. as the one "running the round table" of brainstorming ideas. Pull all sorts of people from the old TechTV days to do the different areas.
Small list I quickly came up with:
Leo Laporte - Host (kinda Xibit-like... trying to be a geek gansta -OMG ROFL)
Dan Huard - sorta leader/organizer but motivating via shenanigans
Yoshi - exterior paint and case design/augmentation
Kevin Rose - Data security devices (i.e. thermite) installation and config
Robert Heron - Graphics card/ display augmentation (preferably HD) & cables
Patrick Norton - Power supplies ('cause we all know he loves blowing them up)
Patrick Norton - Could also do sound/audio (don't get him started on the Turtle Beach thing again... UGLY)
This is a simple quick list. there's also room for necessary accessories (UPS's kbd/mouse, etc.) as well as unnecessary ones (like something from Martin Sargent) I'm sure someone could find an area that Jessica Corbin could fit into... the possibilities are endless.

Good idea but the name needs changing..sounds to MTVish.
I agree that the current name suggestions sound too MTV.
You could call the show something simple like "Clocked" (as in overclocked) and people would still know what it was about
