Dunno if anyone else will run into this, but for some reason the date showed up in my iTunes as 2/11/07, so it wouldn't automatically download it by refreshing, but only if I manually picked it.

Sorry about the K - I screwed up the date on the feed when I initially published it, but corrected it a couple of hours later, so it should appear directly underneath this week's POW Podcast...but regardless, now that the POW is out, you'll have to manually download the 300 podcast and it should appear directly underneath the POW show...
thanks for figuring it out and apologies.

Don't worry! We totally appreciate the fact that you all did the podcast. Halfway through as I type this. Great job!

Another good job guys. Your takes are maybe a little more positive than ours, but I think it was spot on for you...

did you guys like the ending of the graphic novel or the movie better?

Great Podcast guys.
I can confirm one thing you said: when we got the script for Sin City it was nothing but a photocopy of the books. And for 300, all of our shots started with the part in the book it represented followed by some concept art that was just a redrawing of the book.
So you guys weren't far off there ;)

then what role did the director play? im not trying to be condescending i would like to know what kind of input they gave you??

In 300 I would say the job was pretty easy in the story telling. He had the script within the novel, all he had to do was put all the pieces together. Where he earned his money was in bringing the fight sequences to life. What I like about the temporal changes in the battles was how he allowed the action to slow right down when it came to a beauty shot, usually refelecting a panel from the books, and then go into hyper speed-up for the in-betweens.
that was great. It was pretty and it made the fighting easier to follow

A director takes care of technical and psycological aspects of the flick aswell. He is the guy telling the actors to be as bad ass as they were. He is the guy making sure the grips are working over time on the blue screen set, he is the guy telling the DOP the look he is going for. He is the guy in charge of everything, like a ring master.
...so yes, his story boards were pre made...but completing a film goes way beyond that.

Absolutely. There are so many things in a film that need to be overseen, it would drive most people insane. It also takes a ton of effort to make sure that the film is staying within the idea of the image of the book.

I, too, agree. I would never say that a director's job is easy. Yes some projects are easier for a director then others. All projects share the same equation: Script + Preproduction + scheduling + production + editing + post production + etc... And I would never take away any credit from a director that can put all these pieces together correctly.
I guess it is a matter of perception. Some would look at a film like 300 and say that it is easier because a lot of the conceptual work is done. All you have to do is make sure what you see on screen is what you had on paper. Others would look at 300 and say it is harder because you HAVE to make sure every frame that gets put up on the big screen represents the exact mood and meaning of what was already put down in a great graphic Novel that fanboys love. Perception.
Either way, a director's job is never easy.

Question for the iFanboy crew:
I was wondering if there are any plans to expand on these "special edition" podcasts for other big time box office movies (not necessesarily comic book related) i was watching tv tonight and i saw an ad for Grindhouse and i thought it would be cool if you guys reviewed it.
Its always cool to have an extra podcast every now and again......:D

The podcast was awesome as always. I saws 300 twice and I actually enjoyed it better the second time, not sure why.
