DUDE, Maleev not in the list?

His not being on a regular monthly book is hurting his instant name recollection level.

I've replaced all the pictures of Jesus in my house with pictures of Maleev

I encourage you all to do the same

he does have a glowing heart

Does he now?

He does. Hey if Alan Moore can worship a snake, then Maleev isn't so crazy. At least Maleev can talk. Can he eat mice though? I don't know. Time to send him a letter.

oh yeah, thanks for the shout out Ron. You may have a point about me spending far too much time here. It used to be ridiculous, now it's absurd. But I enjoy it so......eh

Just started listening to the episode. Loved the pick for music this week, I was suprised how much I liked that Of Montreal album. Was the choice of the line "emasculate us forever" related to the death of Cap?

Random Of Montreal note, I saw an article on Pitchfork where apparently he did half of a show completely naked.

I just saw Of Montreal last Friday night and they rocked - as for meaning in its use and how it affects the podcast, I'll never tell ;)

The singer of Of Montreal did indeed play a couple of shows naked, luckily for me last week he kept his clothes on - but man it was a hell of a show.

What... no Jonah Hex love this week? It was POW worthy. A great issue. Otherwise, excellent show guys.

I feel it is my duty as a representative of the Midwest to report that no one I know has ever said "vittles" in any context. Maybe while making fun of hillbillies.

It's a testament to the quality of the podcast that I allowed it to spoil a couple of books I hadn't finished yet because I could wait to read the books but couldn't wait to listen to the show. This is either a testament to the quality of the podcast or a symptom of some lower-level mental illness. It may be related to the growing realization that I spend more time reading about comics online than I spend reading comics.

Just the sound of the words "This is Darrell" makes me smile. And then he goes and gives up a completely reasonable, eloquent, heartfelt voicemail with no threats or omens at all. I was actually moved. It's like meeting the iFanboys broke the spell.

The whole 'I'm not really stalking I'm on the bus' thing made me laugh so loud I caught an echo

Vittles come from victual - etymology - Middle English vitaille, victuayle, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin victualia, plural, provisions, victuals, from neuter plural of victualis of nourishment, from Latin victus nourishment, way of living, from vivere to live.

Vittles is more likely an Appalachian term than Mid-West.

I'm guessing that also wasn't one of the shows where he had a backdrop of straight and gay porn playing either...haha.

All right, I didn't think JLA was that confusing. Sure, unnecessarily complex springs to mind, but I followed it relatively well. Therefore, I want to pick up that ball that Ron and Josh dropped and take up the Conor Challenge. You'll have to take me at my word that I don't have the books in front of me; is my icon a face that would lie?

So Solomon Grundy was born (again) on a Monday and became intelligent this time; therefore, he decided, "I hate dying." So he concocts the following plan: he hires an immortal mad scientist with a death wish who wants to trade, tricks Red Tornado into a mortal body to steal his robot one (which has the added benefit of allowing him to kill Reddy), grafts Amazo's head to it, gives the new Rezzo Parasite-sucking ability to power it, and Vixen's totem to sort out all those sweet new powers. Essentially, he thought, "If I were to choose an immortal body, it might as well be really tricked out."

Meanwhile, Supes, Batty, and Wondy are playing 52 card pickup; Green Lantern and Arsenal (who was named Red Arrow because Hal kept messing up and almost calling him Roy, so to cover he renames him... Completely Logical!) are male bonding; Vixen's trying to get some; Black Lightning is infiltrating Parasite's operation; and Dinah's doing something offscreen along with Hawkgirl. They all get together in their various ways (Vixen flies off. Caw!), and Green, Red, and Black all infiltrate the mad scientist's lair, fight a bajillion Tornado knockoffs, and end up disconnecting Rezzo before Amazo and Red Tornado's memories are completely erased. Supes, et al., find that the mad scientist and IntelliGrundy have somehow used Starro-like robots to control other villains that are stealing stuff (because they haven't referenced enough classic JLA villains), so they all fly off to save the day. Then comes the last issue, which is pretty self-explanatory (fight, dismemberment, and death).

Now, I've normally been a Marvel person, but I followed it. I didn't know the deal with Red Tornado, but obviously this took care of that problem for me, and I still have no idea who that dude climbing up the cliff and showering in the costume was. But that's what I got for you, Ta-da!

I'm glad you guys cleared up the whole Spider-woman/Miss. Marvel/Cap isn't really dead thing.

First off, I get a friend to pick up my books for me since my "LCS" is in downtown Montreal and I am 45 minutes north. When he brought them up I start sifting through my bag and find....wait for it....No Captain America #25. So I call the store to see what's up. They thought, since I starting picking Cap up at the start of Civil War, I only wanted it for the Civil War run.... Whatever. I knew what happened anyway. But then I read Civil War Initiative and got to the part with Spider-woman/Miss. Marvel and was like "WTF"?

BTW: I get Marvel Previews free with Previews....so why did I have to pay so much to get it again in the Initiative?

Great show this week guys. You were dead on picking Captain America #25 as the pick of the week. Great book!!!! Civil War: The Initiative #1 was an absolute waste of money. I hate paying for previews. It was like paying for a brochure for a time share condo.
I got one challenge for you guys. You were really hard on Angel Medina's art. I must disagree with you completely. I really enjoy his art. I think he has a lot of talent. I have really enjoyed all of his art that I have seen. I think he has gotten a bad rap because he got involved with Mr. Todd 'Nut Job' Mcfarlene.
Lastly, you were dead on calling out poser Greg Land. Tracers get bent. Keep up the good work partners!

Signed

To be honest, I kept hearing about Greg Land and his tracing skills but I never took the time to see what it was all about.

Here are 2 links that actually show examples:

**On the first link, scroll done to the Brad Pitt/Magneto sample....Now that is some nice tracing...

he uses the worst references too. In Ultimate FF, every time he draws Sue Storm it appears he sourced the initial pic from porn.

he's been in and out on it. I can remember him being there for parts of the 20s and 30s, but I can't remember specifically which ones.

Haha. I bet he’s on the issues of UFF that I really liked, since I remember thinking, “wow, they made Sue look really hot!” Now I feel dirty.

I want to chime in on the first Brad Meltzer JLA arc. It was absolutely too confusing. There is good confusing like 'Watchman' but not bad confusing like 'Invisibles'. These first six issues was absolutely on the bad side. This title was all over the place. I will give it another arc but Meltzer needs to get in under control.

I picked up all six issues of JLA at once and read them at once and found it a lot less confusing than I would have if I had read them as they came out. I can just tell that on a monthly basis, I would have dropped this around issue 3.

That aside, the main problem as I see it is that the arc didn't gel until Solomon Grundy showed up and the fight began. Before that it was all mystery and confusion for the sake of mystery (Lost style). The extended sequence of choosing members was way too drawn out as well.

However, I though issues 5 and 6 were a lot less confusing and more fun and I'm hoping the new arc has a lot less phony suspense.

There was a discussion about some of the fun teen books out there. One I want to say I really enjoyed was Young Justice. I understand why it was cancelled, but damn if it was one of the few books I really looked foward to reading every month. I knew I could pick it up and enjoy the read and smile just about every single issue. I tried Teen Titans, and I just couldn't get into it as I did YJ.
