So as people here recommended Daredevil to me, and as I heard on a recent podcast that #94 is a perfect place to start, it seemed like I definitely should. Plus, I've always been interested by the character.
I really enjoyed the issue, the artwork is amazing, it's all very noir-ish and doesn't feel like the rest of the Marvel universe at all (from the little I've read, at least), which in my book is a good thing, since all the crazy continuity and crossovers totally fries my brain.
Now there's the new Daredevil Omnibus collection out, and if Miller is anything to go by, that should be right up my ally. £42 or so for 800 pages, I think I'm definitely going to take the dive, unless anyone here suggests otherwise...
I just bought the Omnibus. I can't wait to read it. I love Miller and I love Daredevil. There's a Omnibus companion or a volume 2 or something coming soon too.

The Dardevil Omnibus is stunning, you cant go worng with it. And because you are new to Daredevil you will like it more than the people like me who bought it and have copies of the issues.

A couple of other suggestions for classic DD stories. Check out the first 8 issue of the current volume that were written by Kevin Smith. They were incredible. Also, check out Daredevil: Yellow by Loeb and Sale. For that matter, pick up any of the collaborations between these two and you can't go wrong.

personally i think daredevil is one/if not the best book marvel puts out. if you are serious about getting into the character, i always found Daredevil: man without fear to be the ideal starting place. its written by Frank miller with are by john romita jr and while its definitely not the strongest daredevil offering, it gives you his background/origin and introduces you to the daredevil world/feel very nicely.

I agree, DD has probably been the most consistently good book for many years for Marvel. It is one of the few that I can't really think of the last time I read an issue and thought it was a waste of $3. On the other hand, I have some titles that I try to think when the last time it seemed worth $3 was...

Daredevil is the best and most consistent title Marvel has had in years. I'd pick up all of the Miller DD, especially The Man Without Fear mini w/John Romita Jr. and Born Again, the 5 hardcover editions which includes Kevin Smith's and Bendis's run, and I'd also look into some of Ann Nocenti's run with JRJr. Very underrated. The dialogue gets a little soapy at times but it was a good run that gave us Typhoid Mary.

that book, combined with Bendis' last arc, rival Miller's daredevil work. i love miller's stuff but i think those two arcs are THE best daredevil stories

The Omnibus Companion is already available for pre-order (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Miller-Omnibus-Companion-Market/dp/0785126767/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1611944-8383252?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173823231&sr=1-1) with a July 18 release date. It will include Man Without Fear, which many people have mentioned above. Sadly, the relase date on Amazon for the Omnibus was delayed until next week, I better not get screwed if it sold out or anything, cuz I pre-ordered months ago.
I ordered them both multiple times at my LCS. I went in a few times and asked: did I order the Miller Omnibus yet?

Pre ordered, and en route on the Omni. I'll definitely be picking up the companion as well.

I know Bendis and Brubaker are definitely making their mark, but did anyone else enjoy the Quesada days? Actually that was when I first came on board. I don't remember if he drew or wrote, but I loved the art of those issues.

the only quesada i've read is his run with Kevin smith, which was great, really underrated. the art was superb, if he's done anymore DD (besides father, yuck) i'd be really interested

I think I came in just right after the Kevin Smith arc, where he met Echo for th first time.

wasn't a fan of that Echo arc, i found it boring and confusing, also didn't like anytime she came back- i think i just don't like David Mack's writing or art style. but you should check out the smith stuff, it was really good, no means as good as bendis. like smith's movies, its very wordy (is that a word?) and light on the action but it picks up near the end.

if your still interested, IGN.com just put up a comprehensive "Best of" DD article called "Ultimate Bookshelf 2.0: Daredevil". its pretty good and incompases some books that haven't been mentioned here, in fact i think im going to have to pick up some of the books they noted that i didn't have (frank miller stuff and i dont have it!?!?!?!? WHAT!)
check it out at: http://comics.ign.com/articles/772/772904p1.html

I'm glad you posted that. I saw it and it was pretty cool, just got lazy in posting the link.
I just finished reading the Devil in Cell Block D on the plane. It was REALLY good. (I know I'm like a year too late with these comments...haha). I really enjoyed the element of including Frank Castle. Brubaker really writes him good (and I think it was helpful that he was used sparingly). One of my favorite scenes in the book is where he sits down to eat with Matt and basically warns him not to become him. And I loved how after the big fight, he's just sitting in his cell reading a book.
Awesome
Daredevil:Battlin' Jack Murdock (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=105387) announced. It's set in the past and follows the relationship between Matt and Jack Murdock. Could be interesting. The team isn't so impressive to me, but the subject matter is interesting.

I'm intrigued.. :) I might actually get this one.. I was sorting out my graphic novels/trade paper backs yesterday and stumbled upon Daredevil: Yellow.. :) I know I should know this answer, but does the Omnibus have all of the Frank Miller issues? If it has Daredevil: Born Again, I might actually buy it.. *Gulp* I can't believe I said that out loud...
It doesn't have The Man Without Fear or Born Again but July's Volume 2 does
if I understand correctly

You have to understand, I'm still feeling the effects of last night. I haven't been this hungover in a damned long time. And it feels great. But....I sure as shit am not gonna read a google of new posts when my head is pounding this bad.

Well I'm glad SOMEONE is having fun with it.
*Sniff*
That's what I love about these forums. Everyone gives everyone shit, and no one takes it personal (for the most part, I believe). Makes it fun. I hate having to watch what I say.

For the most part I agree. There are some though that I suspect have Fred voodoo dolls at home. It doesn't bug me.

I just went through IGNs list and I have it all (or in the case of the omnibus will) except for Elektra Assassin and the Love and War OGN. I read that a few years ago when a friend of mine found it as a second hand bookstore. It was pretty damn good.

Well I have a long term IV leading into my heart and can barely move my head, but otherwise I'm peachy. :D
Does anyone know when the Omnibus is supposed to ship? It was on the confirmed list a few weeks ago but hasn't shown up. Amazon still has it on pre-order too, but that doesn't mean anything. My Absolute Sandman I pre-ordered from them showed up the Saturday before it was supposed to come out and was still listed as pre on the site.

I've gotten mine from the store. I heard that Amazon wasn't shipping until this week or next
don't know why

I had a brain malformation that required part of my skull to be removed. Then after my stitches got infected which lead to another operation and the IV for my antibiotics. It really sucked, but it looks like I'm going to have a wicked scar from it. :D
