Have you read the book? The Silverbacks were devolved humans. The concept was more about teaching a highly intelligent gorilla to speak. Koko is just such a gorilla.... blue lasers? uhmm... yeah... where have you bean? They've been around for decades. The Russians were miles ahead of the Americans on the tech and when the cold war ended many jumped to europe, America, Canada. with advances that they've made in the many years it's been around we now have a consumer level blue laser that is used in HD-DVD and Blueray.... tough guy....
