So for those of you who watched episode 65, you saw the guys talking about the I'm Feeling Lucky feature of Google. Am I the only one who uses that?! For those of you who don't know what it does, the feature opens up the top result of the search automatically skipping the results.

I use that feature all the freaking time.

Google's results are accurate enough, that if I have a decent idea of what I'm searching for, I can use I'm Feeling Lucky (tab-tab-spacebar), and you get to skip the results screen.

Ex. Lyrics... everyone searches for lyrics (well.. most people)
Try it, type in
Band - Song Name
and hit Tab-Tab-Spacebar

How's that for saving time/mousework

why is it pointless, if you need something and dont know if its .com or .org or .whatever just type it into the top and it will take you to it

Ironically the only time I use that feature is to type "google" into the Firefox address bar, and then it takes me automatically to Google.com. Hah.

I use this feature since typing no .com or whatever into firefox is the same thing. But I use it kind of as a gamble. Like, if I want to wikipedia Bill Clinton (hypothetically) I just type "wikipedia bill clinton" into the firefox address bar. It works 99% of the time.

best thing about it is getting people to type in failure and hit im feeling lucky usally gets a laugh out of it

Nope, not worth the risk of going to the wrong page and then taking two more seconds to push the back button and repeat process.

Really? I didn't know that.

What you can do (so that it always searches wikipedia) is left click the search field and then add it as a keyword. I have it set so I can type "wiki Bill Clinton" and it searches.

For those of you who don't use "I'm Feeling Lucky", you can change a FireFox setting so it preforms a normal search on Google when typed into the address bar.

==============
Open a New Tab
Type "about:config" Enter
Type "keyword" into the Filter Box
Double Click "keyword.URL"
Enter "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q="
Click Ok
Close the Tab and Test
==============

Also if dont like using the FireFox Search, you can easily setup bookmarks with keywords allowing you to perform custom searches from the address bar.

Wikipedia Example:
==============
Open Bookmark Manager
Click New Bookmark
Name: "Wikipedia"
Location: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=%s"
(Note that the %s is where your search word normally goes)
Keyword: "w"

Click Okay and Close the manager

Test by typing "w <something>" in the address bar to look up something in Wikipedia.
==============

I use this all the time by clicking New Tab and searching for what ever I want. Here is a list of the searches I use:

Name: "Digg"
Location: "http://digg.com/search?search=%s"
Keyword: "digg"

Name: "Google Images"
Location: "http://images.google.com/images?q=%s&hl=en"
Keyword: "img"

Name: "Google Maps"
Location: "http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%s"
Keyword: "m"

Name: "Dictionary"
Location: "http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=%s"
Keyword: "define"

Name: "TV.com"
Location: "http://www.tv.com/search.php?qs=%s&type=11&stype=all"
Keyword: "tv"

Name: "TorrentSpy"
Location: "http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?h=&query=%s"
Keyword: "tor"

Name: "thePirateBay"
Location: "http://thepiratebay.org/search.php?q=%s"
Keyword: "tor2"

Name: "IsoHunt"
Location: "http://isohunt.com/torrents.php?ihq=%s&ext=&op=and"
Keyword: "tor3"

Name: "MiniNova"
Location: "http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=%s"
Keyword: "tor4"

Enjoy!

Np... I also use the following extensions to help with my web browsing experience:

-Tab Mix Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1122/)
-Super Drag and Go (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/137/)

with super drag and go if you want to search Google for more information on a word in an article, you highlight the word and drag it to a blank are on the page. This opens a new tab and automatically searches Google. The same thing applies to links on a site, to open them in a new tab just drag and drop them.

For the longest time, putting in "weapons of mass destruction" and hitting the "I'm Feeling Lucky" came up with this page (http://coxar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk).

Try "I'm Feeling Lucky" on "French Military Victories" and see what it brings up.
