I want a new main-actually-portable laptop. I want something that I can easily carry (so ~4lbs, not much heavier), has something along the lines of a 2 ~ 2.33Core 2 Duo, has as high a resolution as possible within the size/weight, 100Gb+ HDD, a separate GPU, and a very long battery life. I'd also like Vista Business (or Ultimate).

So what I'm asking for is basically a desktop in an ultralight form factor, or as close to it as possible.

At the moment the best I can come up with is the Sony SZ4VW(UK) SZ491(US) SZ93(Japan). The thing is, I've already got an older SZ model and apart from an upgrade to Core 2 and a bigger HDD it's not got a whole lot different about it, and I'm not happy with the screen both in terms of size and visibility of the SZ - which hasn't changed to my knowledge on the new SZ. I had a look on Dynamism for Japan-only models and there's nothing that really grabs my interest.

The Panasonic CF-W5 seemed to be a contender until I saw it had a GMA950. Asus VX1 - meh. Thinkpad 14" T60 - not my style, Acer Ferrari - bleh. Looking on the Clevo site made me go cross-eyed from the choice but maybe there's something there for me.

What else could I possibly consider? I'm not on a budget.

Oh yes, there's the Macbook Pro of course - I hope to be rid of them soon, and frankly speaking although I'm not totally out of it I don't want to see / buy another OS X machine for a while.

If you are not stuck to a tight budget take a look at the Toshiba/Fujitsu Lifebook. I had an opportunity to test drive a few in my previous sales job. Very lightweight and powerful.

Not that I'm being overtly lazy, but specific models would be appreciated. I've trawled through enough websites already.

I have no budget. i.e. I'll buy anything if it does what I want. $5K, $10K, whatever - oh all right, $10K is a little excessive. Anyway, you get the idea.

I can't get too specific on the models because I left my sales job about a year ago and I haven't had contact with the newest stuff but here's what I can point you towards that looks good.

The lifebook T series has the centrino duo

here's another T-series

From what Fujitsu says, these are Vista capable. I'm sure someone else will jump in with other ideas too.

OK, had a look - none except for the Celcius (too big/heavy) seem to have a discrete GPU. Not that the GMA950 is that bad as an office GPU but it just lacks any even nominal muscle for anything other than that.
