I would buy one (I'm not primarily a console gamer nor have I owned one before) however, I need to buy a car so probably not. However, once I get my job I'll save up to buy this.

i cant believe i can buy a 120gb for 180 bucks.. thats absurd
microsoft, that hd should cost $80, but since its a game console, $100. not more than that
i will not be buying the elite. will wait for Elite XP, or whatever is next, heh

I agree that the price for just the HDD is absurd. People have been wanting HDMI and more storage for a while though. I won't be getting one because i keep my 20gb HDD fairly clean and my TV doesn't support 1080p.

I'm not that interested in the HDMI connector. My TV only has two and their being used. However, I'm a little bummed that they want another $200 bucks for the bigger HDD. You would think they would release it as a loss-leader so people could use their download service. Or, better yet, they should make it possible to use third part external devices.

I am kinda excited about this - especially the HDMI connector. My TV has two as well, but the DVD and Cable box are being run through my amp (acting as a HDMI video switch). For the amount of time I would use the X360, this is fine for me ... hell with an HDDVD player, it might replace my regular DVD player.
Does the X360 HDDVD upconvert regular DVDs?

I have the same Samsung unconvertible DVD player that you do and the XBOX 360 w/ HDDVD. The dedicated upconverting DVD player does look better for regular DVD. However, that might be because the dedicated DVD player is already HDMI.
My plan is to eventully replace the upconverting DVD player with a blue-ray player that upconverts or a PS3.

The X360 Elite (or more likely the premium once it is upgraded to the elite featureset with HDMI) is leading the charge for me at the moment. The Samsung DVD is great, but was only ever a stopgap player for me. I am waiting for the format wars to subside before going for one or the other next gen platform - what WOULD be ideal is a X360 HDDVD/BluRay combo drive addon (then I could get some PGR3 loving happening as well).

I'm not that in need of space to drop nearly $200 on a new HDD, also, I don't even have an HDTV so I could care less about the HDMI output.
Now I could see maybe $100, even though that's still absurd, but I would probably buy it.
