The Zune. Yes or No? Keep all bashing out of the thread I want to hear from people who actually own one.

I don't technically own one, but I fiddled with one for a while in an Office Depot, and I would say no, but that's just me, all Apple fanboyism aside. I'm sure it's a great product, may just take a little getting used to.
So find a demo unit in some store, see if you like it.

I dunno what I am going to buy yet. Has there been any news from either side ipod/zune about new models coming soon or anything?

I'm not sure about the Zune but I can assure you a new iPod is on it's way (it's been longer then 5 minutes so were do for a new iPod). I'm going to put my money on the video iPod being upgraded to a widescreen iPod with a touchscreen. The possibility of a UI similar to that of the iPhone is possible as well.
As for which one is better....
I really would go with the iPod. Again, the Zune would be my second choice if the iPod didn't exist. I don't own a Zune but I played around with one. I just think the iPod is better from a hardware and software standpoint. I think the "wheel" on the Zune is dumb and wasn't digging the UI. The first time an iPod was put in my hands I didn't have to figure anything out because everything was so simplistic. I didn't have that with the Zune. The whole "sharing songs" thing doesn't impress me much either.

I haven't used a Zune, but my sister has an iPod and has had to replace it once already. I personally have an old iRiver. They don't seem to get much attention, but the thing has been PERFECT. I've dropped and hit it so many times I can't count and the thing hasnt had one issue... I've had it for about 4 years now I think. Also, I personally love how it acts as a hard drive, instead of having to go through a program. Anyway, personally I would say look into an iRiver just because mine has been the best 'gadget' I've ever had.

I don't own a Zune. However, the software isn't very good.

It's a modified Windows Media Player with one click, "Sync to Zune"... It's rather simple and easy to use.

I'm sure. But it breaks Windows Media Connect and keeps me from sharing media with my XBOX 360. Rub the surface of the puppy a little and there are lots of problems.

I don't own an Xbox 360 so I have yet to tinker with that.

I prefer watching video on the zune, but prefer the nano/shuffle for audio. Size does matter. :)

Made by Toshiba, marketed by Microsoft.
Right?

The trouble is that some smart ass at Microsoft decided that requiring you to use the Zune software for sharing media with the XBOX 360 was a great way to market the Zune to XBOX 360 owners. The trouble is that the XBOX wants to use Microsoft media connect and neither software team thought enough to put their heads together to realize that it wouldn't work very well.
Now I can't even think of getting a Zune without breaking the XBOX 360's media sharing functionality.

Just to complicate things: (Like Magun I'm a MacFanboy) and Love my iPod, have had few problems and they were easily solved...
That being said: Look into iRiver. My gadget loving friend whose opinion I greatly respect with respect to technology got one years ago, loves it still.
Check it out. Might be good for such an antidisestablishmentarianist like you. :)
